My dad passed away before we cruise

Recommended Posts

I would agree with those that say call Carnival and tell them what is going on. I can't see how the price would change on the room as you guys already PAID in FULL for it. If the room wasn't paid in full then that would probably change the price.

If you are going to just show up, then bring the Death Cert. as they most likely can't take your word for it.

Good Luck.

Even paid in full it absolutely can be refared if Passenger #1 is not there - fares are tied to the first passenger listed, no matter the payment status.

My condolences to you and your family. If it was me, I'd call carnival and let them know what has happened. That way when you show up for the cruise you'll know exactly what will happen and you won't have the stress of not knowing. My mom died the day before we were suppose to cruise yrs ago, we had to cancel everything and carnival was very supportive and helpful.

Sorry for your loss.

If you have insurance, go ahead and call if only for piece of mind. If you don't, re-fare the cruise online and consider if it's worth calling. Most likely you will get re-fared if you call in advance with a solo supplement for mom, and cancelation penalty for dad if within that window.

No-show. You should be allowed to board, just make up an excuse for dad coming later or the like. Chances are the offer may not be honored since dad was the primary, but it's also likely the difference in fare/price/offers will not be significantly different than had you called in advance. I'd take my chances with the no-show.

Okay never delt with this. If the primary passenger passes I would think that Carnival would have a "special needs" department to deal with this. This is not someone not showing up because they had job that got in the way. A spouse passed away, so wouldn't they handle it differently? From the response I see no one has really dealt with this issue.

I know Carnival has policy for standard issue of no shows and cancelations.  But this is something out of the norm and would require some communication with Carnival? To make up a story on why he isn't there is odd. I personally would call Carnival and tell them what happen and see what they say and it may be true they need to adjust the price. But for me it would be better to know ahead of time to make the proper decision.

The closes I came to this was my parents had a group cruise booked. My mom was primary and my dad got called at the last week of the cruise to go to work. I was and a second person to go on the cruise. I took his spot with our any change in price. But it was set up a head of time.

As someone who checks-in cruise passengers, I can say that nothing would happen at the terminal if one passenger of two booked did not show up (only exception would be if the other guest in the stateroom was a minor under 21 years old).
What most likely will happen is your Mom will be asked if the other guest is still coming and she will answer that he won’t be sailing.  If it is a check-in agent with a tablet, they would probably say “okay” and embark your Mom.  If for some reason she has to go to the check-in counter, again she will be asked if the other person in the stateroom will be coming.  The counter check-in agent may let the Pier Coordinator know, just so they know how many folks are still expected as the time to close doors approaches.

I can’t say if Carnival will do anything about the stateroom pricing after the fact, but your Mom would be embarked regardless.  Also, as check-in agents, we have no idea who paid for what, nor do we know if you are traveling on a casino or similar promotion.

Sorry for your loss, but as my friend @sparks1093 suggested, take the cruise, and honor your Dad by having a great time.

Call, asking here is like asking for the lottery numbers that will win.

Honestly, so is calling.  You can get a different answer every time you call in my experience.

Not quite the same situation but around 10 years ago, my girlfriend died unexpectedly a week before we were to cruise. My desire to cruise obviously changed so I contacted Carnival. Despite not having purchased insurance, they asked for a copy of the death certificate and eventually gave me a full credit for the cruise which I used the next year. I was grateful since they really didn't have to do that.

Hi, we had our family cruise booked since last year. My dad passed away suddenly before Christmas and its been rough. Do I tell Carnival that he passed away or let it go? The room is his name with my mom , we are all still going to go because he would want us to go.

Thank you

I'm sorry for your loss.  Prayers to all of the family and friends.
