In the next 24 days, the 8 of us hope to be on the Regal Princess for the first time. If YOU have been on this ship within the past year or less, what would YOU recommend we SEE or DO, that you enjoyed on this ship?

Read the daily activities events and do what you like. I do caution you that a number of "activities" are really sales talks. These are usually the ones by one or more of the shops and the spa. I also avoid the art auctions.

Trivia, evening lounge entertainment, game shows are popular. There probably will be Zumba style group exercise each sea day morning. There may also be some pool games on sea days. Of course there are the evening shows in the theater. Arrive about 1/2 hour early for popular guest entertainers and 45 minutes early for production shows.

I was on Regal last week. We aren't into the production shows but we did enjoy the comedians, cooking demonstration (frankly the head chef and dining manager had a funnier repartee than the comedians at times 😄), illusionist show, house band, and acrobat show. The 'behind the scenes' presentation by the cruise director was interesting and worthwhile, as well as the 2nd officer's navigation presentation. We learned a lot about the ship's operation during these talks.

We also enjoyed the onboard enrichment speaker. He gave several talks during the week about vintage travel. He was leaving the ship the day we disembarked though after having been onboard for 3 weeks.

I will caution you that the entertainers will likely change as was explained to us during the cruise director's talk. He said they regularly rotate around through various ships so your options may be different than ours.

We also really enjoyed the Crown Grill and had excellent meals there.

Thank you for your input on my question. So for the demonstration and behind the scenes presentation, is there a charge for that? Yes, I will definitely be reading the daily events as well, the night before, and MARKING it with my pen, if it is something that I might want to see/do. 🙂

No charge. You can also mark events on your app so it will filter down to only things you've marked for the day. I like the paper daily schedule to look over the night before, but the app is handy throughout the day.

Due to our schedule change missing Costa Maya they had to reprint the daily Patter so the app was more up to date quicker. Some of the entertainers were supposed to leave at that port and others join us there. When that didn't happen they had to refine the schedule.

I looked at the app schedule and don’t see the demonstration and behind the scenes presentation for my cruise which starts in 2 days.  Where do I find these, is it just on the paper schedule?

It was on our paper schedule and the app both; however, many events populated only after we boarded. So maybe they will show up later.

The astronomer enrichment speaker looks interesting.  Side note -- during the cruise director's behind the scenes presentation he answered many questions, one of which was 'what happened to the onboard star gazing program'?  He was joined at that time by the assistant cruise director who both explained they didn't have the proper equipment onboard to properly block the ship's lights at night to make the program feasible.  They both said it had been offered on the Regal in the past but unfortunately they no longer had the equipment.  Maybe since they are bringing on an astronomer speaker they will once again offer the nighttime guided star gazing program.

We enjoyed sitting on our balcony in the evening and star gazing on our own.  It's one of the things we love about having a balcony, and from the aft you don't get much light pollution from the ship.

@skynight is spot on.

We especially enjoyed the astronomer’s lectures. Wealth of knowledge there, easy to understand, delivered with humor and passion. We caught all of his presentations.

Might want to avoid the food poolside. Ugh. But the dining rooms are excellent, and the buffets have international selections - something for everyone. I’m diabetic, and there are plenty of dietary options everywhere you look. No deprivation needed on this cruise! International Cafe on Deck 5 was my favorite spot, and our favorite barista was Esley - what a fabulous human being.

Comedian Linda Belt - laughed so hard I cried.
Magician Belli was fascinating and fun.
Lots of music everywhere for all tastes.

Casino was fun, typical tables and machines,  but clogged with cigarette smoke.
Movies showing all day and evening at poolside.

Walking/running trails, sports courts, etc.

I recommend you book excursions through the ship - but do it as soon as possible. They fill up fast but guarantee you get back on board on time.

As to the sales pitches… obvious and annoying and everywhere. Wine, highly commercial art, jewelry, and that spa: we avoided all of it. After a while, it becomes just background noise.

Relax and Enjoy … we certainly did!

The 8 of us agreed, Belli the magician was GREAT. They did have the $10 sales pitches which I normally check out, but they didn't have anything I needed this time.

I failed to mention when I posted earlier, I really enjoyed taking a tour of the food galley as well. The two men that did the talking of what goes on in the galley/kitchen before we did the tour, were so funny. I thought??? it would be boring listening to them, but they were really something else and so FUNNY!
