Southampton dining options

Hi, we are party of 7 staying the night before and looking for somewhere to eat that's not too expensive but decent, does anyone have any suggestions?  We are staying Premier Inn Westquay so want something within walking distance, no kids, all adults aged between 18 - 85.  I have been looking for a decent pub with food but can't seem to find one.  Any suggestions?

Dancing Man Brewery does great food.  West Quay has almost all of the big dining chains, no shortage of places to eat.

Plenty of choice for all budgets. 

There are a couple of 'spoons, slug and lettuce etc within a short walk. 

West Quay has all sorts of choices, but I would suggest a stroll down to Oxford Street for a more civilised but lively evening, a few nice pubs serving food there.

Southampton is a wonderfully inclusive city that serves a thriving, generally family, cruise market.

 

Unless you want to go to Wetherspoons (which explicitly bans under 18s), you may struggle to find a specific 18+ restaurant/pub eatery.

 

I would suggest dropping your no kids requirement, looking at some of the restaurants around the West Quay area. Ask for a quiet table by all means.

I read it that the travelling group were all between 18 and 85, not that they wanted a no kids place.  They specifically were requesting a pub, so assumedly most of those don't have a large number of children frequenting them anyway.

Oh ok. I wasn’t being judgemental- just know that there is a massive variety in Southampton but most accept kids.

If you like Indian cuisine, Kutis in Mayflower Park is lovely (don't open on Mondays though)

But as others have said, there is a wide choice across the street in PI West Quay.

 

The restaurant in the PI - Thyme - is okay.   Think 'Spoons.

Down at West Quay you have quite a few chain restaurants to choose from - Franco Manca, Real Greek, Las Iguanas, etc - most are all in the same part of the complex just outside the main shopping mall plus others inside the mall so plenty of choice.

We had a lovely meal at Ennio's, an Italian within walking distance of the PI. Town Quay I believe? Bookings suggested.

You've had good suggestions to date.

 

Premier Inns are owned by the UKs biggest brewery and have their own attached restaurants. Haven't eaten at this one but at others around the country.  Good food, good choices, good value, but there's something insular about eating in the hotel, and they don't have a "local" feel. Certainly good for breakfast

 

Most of the restaurants in the West Quay entertainments complex, directly across the road from P.I.West Quay, have the option of al-fresco dining overlooking the City Wall and there are a lot of restaurants there that you can browse - but they're all national or international chains - not my scene, might be yours.

Nearest Wetherspoon's pub is the Standing Order in the High Street a ten-minute walk. The chain is often ridiculed (kinda like Walmart) for being cheap & basic, but food is acceptable, prices are very keen, and they're popular. Oxford Street has been mentioned - one of the areas to browse a selection of pubs & restaurants but it's a 15 minute walk from your hotel (and applying the usual formula for walking to pubs that means about 25- 30 minutes walk back to the hotel 😏)

 

The waterfront / old town area is our preference,  just a 6-minute walk'

And add the Duke of Wellington, a couple of hundred yards up the road from the Dancing Man, a 12th Century pub (for those who know their history, it was re-named in 1815 in honour of the Duke of Wellington following his rout of Boney at Waterloo).

Mentioned by @showingdiva Kuti's is an Indian restaurant, almost opposite the Dancing Man in the Royal Pier. Had a great reputation, has gone thro financial problems and reviews are currently mixed..

Ditto La Regata, a Spanish restaurant https://www.laregata.co.uk/ .two doors down from Ennio's. We've enjoyed eating at both, but the prices deserve a "special occasion"

 

Particularly those in old-town/waterfront, for a table of seven it's best to book, ditto for any size group on a friday or saturday. Usually no commitment when booking.
