Deck 3 interior cabin on Oasis OTS - Any thoughts?

Recommended Posts

We just got assigned our last cabin for the June 23 sailing, and it looks like a pretty "meh" location. 3848. Looks like it's close to elevators, bathrooms, and main dining room traffic. Only upside I can see is that it looks like a cabin that won't get a ton of traffic after hours as there is nothing else there. Has anyone ever stayed here or near here who can out my mind at ease? It's for my sons, who are both 17-20 and can sleep through a train but still would rather it not be very very loud for them.

Cabin location is personal preference.

Personally, deck 3 is the last place I’d want to be just b/c it’s so far away from the upper decks where I spend a good amount of time.

If there are other cabins available in the same exact category, you can switch for free (by same exact I mean 4V to 4V or 2V to 2V, not just interior).

If you’re interested, your TA can do it or you just call RC if you booked direct.

Yeah I'm going to see if the agent can help. My son is somewhat prone to motion so low isnt necessarily the worst thing, but am concerned about the noise in that area.

I looked up on cruise deck plans site and your room is a connecting room also.  above your room is the casino too.  I would change if I could and try to let the cruiseline pick your room again.

Sadly there are no remaining rooms in my class. Sigh.

Keep checking. You have a lot of time until you sail. People may cancel, upgrade, move, win RoyalUps, etc.

I've moved my GTY assigned cabin 5 days before sailing in the past b/c a cabin popped up in a location I liked that wasn't previously available..

With a GTY booking, once your stateroom is assigned you can have it moved to a different location within the assigned sub-category based on availability if you want.  Depending on how you booked originally, RCCL or your TA will advise as to what staterooms are available and where they are for your to choose.  You do not go back into the GTY to have RCCL assign again in order to change locations.  Have done this a few times in the past.

While it is close to those areas as you mention, I believe there is a hallway separating the staterooms from the lobby areas by the MDR and elevator banks.  I do not believe your stateroom opens into that area and the traffic will not be in your hallway.  Perhaps others can confirm.

thank you! this is so helpful. i think we will likely keep it. it seems there is a secondary hallway separating the two.

Oh yeah, the elevators are always in a separate little lobby area, that's why a lot of people actual LIKE being near them, they don't really cause any extra noise!

I can't imagine boys that age even noticing noise.

I looked at the floor plan, and it's not an ideal cabin -- but when you choose a Guarantee for the cheapest room on the ship, this can happen.  We ourselves opt for Inside Guarantees often, and we've literally never been disappointed.  I don't think your sons will be either.

Having said that, thoughts on this location:

- We were on Deck 3 on a recent cruise, and it's not a location I'd choose, as it's far from the upper decks, where everything's happening -- but it also wasn't the end of the world; I think we said ONCE, "This isn't as nice a location as we usually get", and then we were over it.

- Many people love being right by the elevators, and this room is very close to them.

- It's a connecting room, which may or may not be a problem.  You can hear more noise through the door than through a wall, but last time we had a connecting room I think I heard a sneeze once -- and I was standing right by the door at the time.  Other times we've had neighbors who were more noisy, but it's never been a problem.  I wouldn't choose a connecting room on purpose, but I wouldn't be overly upset about it either.

- This room is very convenient to the MDR and the casino.  This room seems to be under the casino entrance, and I suspect it's not under actual machines.  I really don't think your sons'll be hearing clink-clink-clink all night.

- I assume they'll be above crew quarters, which are likely to be quiet all the time.

No, you won't hear mechanical noises -- but the people who come and go to those elevators make noise, and essentially everyone on Deck 3 will pass this room as they come/go to the elevators.

I would personally consider deck 3 cabins as they can be midship (my prefered location) and noise is not an issue for me as I'm deaf so hearing aid is off when I sleep!! 😉  This year for the 1st time, I'm trying out a Promenade cabin.

Yeah they will have earplugs. I think it will be fine, although may keep an eye on inventory in case something opens up

I will just mention that 3848 opens into the corridor near the escalator that is used for gangway access, so there will be noise there on port days. If you can move (even if it is deeper into Deck 3) it might be quieter.

Ditto.  🙂  One of the advantages of being hearing impaired.

I can also shut off my aids to hear the annoyingly loud music at a comfortable level.
