Hotel or pub outside Southampton?

Recommended Posts

Hi, we have been staying at the Elizabeth House, but they don't do dinner on Sundays.  Anybody got anywhere else to the West or Southampton that they like - just for the night?

The Beach House, Milford On Sea. There is also The Smugglers Inn as an alternative for something to eat and the Wash House micro bar that does a good selection of beers and wine.

We stayed at Elizabeth House last summer. They were not doing food that evening but they recommended a pub across the road. It about a 5 min walk next to a park. I can’t remember the name but it was really nice, it was definitely a “food pub”

It was probably the Cowherds pub which backs onto Southampton Common, it’s only a short walk up the Avenue from Elizabeth House.

We normally drive down from the Midlands and stop over near Newbury. Our stay of choice is the Donnington Grove Hotel on the outskirts of Newbury with easy access off the A34. It's a hotel set on a golf club and has a very quiet location. Room rates are reasonable and the food is good.

After the overnight stay it's an easy 1hr - ish drive to the cruise port via the A34/M3 and M27 West. Convenient services on the M27 West at Rownhams if you need a loo stop or a coffee before you join the ship.

Might be a tad far out for some folks but we love the quiet location and the reasonable room rates.
