NCL Shares OBC. How to have it applied to sailing

Recommended Posts

I am cruising in a couple of weeks. Have purchased the required amount of shares for the OBC. Sent in the form and had it sent back stating they need to see my name attached to the amount of shares. Since I recently purchased them I do not have a statement with my name on it yet. Has anyone else encountered this issue and was there something that you could do to resolve it?

You should be able to access your account online from the brokerage company you purchased them thru.  Go online, print out your statement , then send it over to the appropriate division at NCL.  Make sure to black out your account number.  The OBC usually shows up in about 2 days ( or sooner).

I had time to wait til I received a monthly statement from the brokerage firm.

Otherwise, you can sign into you brokerage account online and print a statement.

How does you name not show up on the statement?  Is it a trust? [send them the certification of trust with you as beneficiary or trustee]  A IRA?  [My IRA has my name in the FBO section]  Is it held in some other name?  Then you are gonna have a problem because the rules state you must send a brokerage or other statement with your name as beneficiary or owner.

You need to tell us how YOU own stock without the shares being in an account you are the owner or beneficiary of . . .

Thank you for the response. Unfortunately my name does not show on the statement.

Then - as I said - you do not posses a sufficient ownership interest to comply with their shareholder rules.  I bought my shares in my self-directed IRA- waited a few days for the month to end, and sent in the portion of the holdings that identify NCLH.

I am assuming it is your or you are a joint owner of the account.....I understand your monthly statement may not have generated yet....but every broker generates trade confirmations.  I always use those for my shareholder credits with all the lines, I don't want to share my whole statement or spend all the time blacking out all of it.

Thank you for the replies. I will go back into my investment portfolio and take another look at it and see if I can generate a document with my name on it.

I believe you can also use a trade confirmation. I'm assuming it has your name on it somewhere.

I mean the trade confirmation statement, not the email. For example, Robinhood has a statement that confirms the trade.

I know what you mean.

Your name will be on the first page of the document from the brokerage. Take screen shots of the first page and all subsequent pages, including the one with the NCL shares.  You can use markup tool to block out personal information before sending the screen shots to NCL.

Log on to your account.

Screen shot a page showing your shares.

Screen shot a page with your name and the name of your brokerage firm

paste both into a document.

Screenshot the combined document. Or print combined document to PDF and send.

The first time I used the newly aquired shares for OBC was less than a month after purchase, so I didn't have a statement to send in either.

NCL accepted my trade confirmation as proof though.

So these shareholders OBC are refundable but can they be applied to Daily Service Charge once onboard?

Also do we have to hold the shares for a given duration. I read that you have to own the shares at time of sailing. Is it true?

They are NON-refundable, and no, they can NOT be used (directly) to pay the Daily Service Charges.  But if you book an excursion on board, it will be paid first from the OBC, then after the excursion you will get the $50 Shore Excursion Credit (if traveling with FAS) applied to your account, which does pay towards the Daily Service Charges.

From my experience they only check that you have the shares when you apply for the credit, not when you sail. Though if you plan to sail NCL ever again, there's no real reason to get rid of them (unless you expect the price to go down).

No.

Is there a list or reference where they can be used or not? sorry this is my first time using Shareholder OBC and looks like they are more restricted then other Non-refundable OBC that I have got in past as part of cruise line offers

It’s the same as any other Non-Refundable credit.  It can’t be used for the casino, the DAC or to buy CruiseNexts, but can be used for almost any other expense.  Specialty dining, drinks, spa, excursions, duty free etc.

They only require a recent statement showing that you owned NCL shares at the time of the statement.  You could sell the shares the day after the statement.  Obtain the OBC three weeks later and sail two years later.  But, to your point, if you plan to sail NCL again there is little point in selling/buying such an insignificant amount of shares($$$).  I spent around $1600 for my 100 shares.  They've been up, down and all around.
