QM2 making a “U” turn

Looking just now at her voyage on to NY and see that she is travelling away from her original route.And down to 2knts.Not another emergency.?Anyone on board could help with why this is happening?

In addition to this, the ship stopped at midnght GMT, so has been pretty much drifting for 9.5 hours now. If it was a medical emergency she would have continued to sail towards land, and get underway again?

Just read on Tv in the cabin that the ship stopped for technical reasons! To reset the power managment system! We will be on the way between 6 and 7am! 12 minutes now to 7 am - so we will see what happens and how it affects our arrival in NY ! Just felt the engines starting - so we should on our way soon!

 No movement - the TV ( channel 45) just said now between 7am and 8am! Off for breakfast now!

We are underway now. Appear to be picking up speed. No announcemebt from bridge yet.

the Captain just made an announcement saying that the power systems were successfully “reset”. 
He did not have an update on our arrival into NYC and in fact asked that the passengers not approach the Purser’s desk with inquiries yet.

Which rather implies you may be late, but they are not yet sure how much.

The same thing happened during the Australian leg of the world voyage a few months ago. They just shut everything down and drifted until about 6am and told us that they had to reset the electrical systems.

That's not very encouraging... 

 

I am on the next westbound crossing, although there's plenty of room to make up time on the upcoming 8 nights east bound crossing. 

 

It appears to be speeding back up now.

 

Hopefully it won't be a repeat of last year's cancellation...

In his noon report the Capt. did announce that we would be delayed arriving in to NYC but at this time cannot say by how much. He confirmed that we will be encountering some weather challenges and we are also awaiting port arrival availability times from the NYC Port Authority. The Captain promised an update at 6:00PM (18:00) ship’s time tonight.

Hopefully you will arrive relatively on time. 

QM2 is travelling at 25 kts but it doesn't seem to be going any faster to make up the time. (Other thread suggested one of the gas turbines is INOP, 25 kts is likely the top speed)

 

Looking at the port schedule, it doesn't appear to be flexible at all if it's delayed for more than 12 hrs. So fingers crossed especially those of you have an onward connection to catch.

QM2 may have to make its first amphibious landing onto Brooklyn at this rate!  Rough past 15 months for our QM2.

Here is the information currently being displayed on the TV information channel. Temps are about 5 degrees colder today and the wind has really picked up. The Promenade deck is closed except for the protected stern area. I suspect that Captain Hashmi and Cunard are weighing all of the factors and will let us know tonight when the new projected docking time will be.

It has been an eventful voyage. 

 

If QM2 maintain its current speed, it's predicted to be delayed by 6-7 hrs arriving into Brooklyn cruise terminal. 

 

There's still enough time to turn it back around for its Eastbound crossing and QM2 will have plenty of time to catch up with the 8 nights schedule.

The captain just came on and told us that we arrive in NY with a four hour delay- 10.30 at the earliest. All on board by 8 pm! For us in transit that is rather good- I am sorry though for those whose onwards travels have been disturbed!

Very eventfull- yes we called it the „ Foggy crossing“! ( fog for three days in a row )

Agree completely Pushpit. We have a 2:30PM flight out of LGW so we should be fine. Despite this it has been a wonderful Crossing for us.

Good Luck @Jack E Dawson. I feel for the people waiting to board. It reminds of the 4th of July cruise last year that was 6 hours delayed. It was a nightmare for those waiting to board.  I hope you make your flight and I’m glad to hear the crossing has been good for you. (Looking at being in your city in February for Chicago Symphony Concert)

Have they cancelled any scheduled tours, or just pushed them back? When we were late last year before the Independence Day Celebration voyage, they had cancelled them all (though this was understandable, as we arrived at 3pm)
