Twinky 53, you (kind of) get used to it:o -- the nice thing is that at night you have a roof of stars....

We just ignore the folks above though except for sailaways and such there usually aren't that many people out there anyway!

Thank you, Carolyn. My DH said exactly the same thing - a roof of stars at night. I did notice that except for sailaways on the Dawn, and arrival in ports of course, there was very little balcony use.

The category AD minisuites (Emerald Deck) are covered

Thank you Jules 1! Everyone is so kind and helpful - like most of the people we met on the cruises we have been on, all three of them, lol.

Carolyn, may I ask you one other thing - do you find your cabin well insulated noise-wise from the other cabins? On the Dawn, well, you didn't need a glass to hear some of the conversations going on next door at times, lol.

I wish you smooth sailings! Each voyage we have been on has been plagued by very rough seas. My poor father was watching the news when we were away last year for our cruise and heard there was a perfect storm possible-formation going on -he did not realize we were far away from that, but he actually called the Coast Guard and asked them if the Dawn was aware of this. I am sure they just loved that phone call!

We did run into very rough seas coming home, though, and they had to close off the promenade decks. Luckily, my DH and I have cast-iron stomachs and don't mind it a bit. I would feel cheated now if we didn't get at least one rough stormy day at sea! ;)

Thanks again Jules - I just saw your amended post - wish me luck! We are just about to book.

Have you thought about typing your responses in Word and then copying and pasting onto the thread? All would not be lost then when you have internet problems.

You don't have to use Word. After typing your message on Cruise Critic, highlight it and copy it to the clipboard (CTL/C -press Control and C buttons at the same time) then click the button to submit as always. If you have a problem and your message is lost, paste the clipboard info (CTL/V -press Control and V buttons at the same time) and your message will re-appear!

If you have trouble remembering the keyboard shortcuts, CTL/X is cut, CTL/C is copy, CTL/V is paste. They're all in a row with x for cut, c for copy and v for paste (that one doesn't make sense but just remember that all 3 are in a row together). You can also right-click the mouse and select Copy and Paste instead of using keyboard shortcuts.

Carolyn........Have you been to the casino yet? My favorite place! If so, what do you think about the layout, games played and have you noticed any big winners.

Also, how is the storage space in the mini.......drawers, closet, cubby holes etc.

Look forward to your experience each day and thank you very much for taking the time.

Thanks Steven/Daniel, that's a great tip when one is typing a long post.

Oh my goodness - I mistyped and inspiried panic! I should have said that our balcony did not have a ROOF, but we definitely had a balcony! The funny thing is that we originally had an AD and were "upgraded" to a "AB" with no roof! Thankfully, we hit a bit of shade leaving FL and I got to go outside for a bit.

A little OT from the thread, but for the tips for not losing your post... For anyone on a ship posting, or typing any type of message, email, etc. it's a great idea to type out in Word first. That way you can do it offline w/o wasting expensive minutes! Have everything you can typed out before you log in, then just quickly copy/paste.

You can turn the swim against the current feature on and off in the spa pool. :)

Thanks Tina -- but can the passengers control that or is it up to the staff, do you know? Just picturing ON OFF ON OFF . . . ;)

I understood what you meant, allyfl. And, yes, the AD designation is listed on Expedia as on the Emerald deck, madelinerose - but when I started to try and see what they had, they said that the cabin would be assigned later. I skipped that and went to Princess' site, and they have an AD listing for the Emerald deck - but it is described as a balcony room, not a mini-suite. I think I am going to talk to the travel agent we used for our last two cruises, see if she can figure it out.

I may go for the balcony cabins - cheaper, so we have more money for all the extras and hopefully I can find the covered ones. I guess this is an issue for me, or I would not be going on and on about it, lol.

Thanks for all of your input.

Thanks for the clarification! I booked a "guarantee" mini-suite and was getting nervous that I'd get 1 w/o a balcony! I would have had a hissy! We won't be picky if it's covered or not, just as long as I can have my morning tea out there...

Hi Carolyn,

Is the Lotus Pool inside or outside of the "for fee" part of the sanctuary? In other words do you need to pay the fee to use that pool?

Thanks so much, glad to hear you're having such a great time.

If I remember correctly from our last Princess cruise, the passengers can control the current with a button near the current machine. I think it ran for 10-15 minutes per push and if you wanted more you just pushed the button again.

Carolyn, did I miss your answer about covered areas and chairs by the terrace pool? And the Lotus Pool...are there covered chairs there that are free? Thank you so much, really appreciate it!

Did anyone ever answer the question about the Coffee Card?

Cost

Venues that the Card covers

Types of Coffee

I have searched this thread and I read it every day and cannot find the answer.

Sorry if this has been answered.

CAROLYN: Everyone does so appreciate all the information you have gleaned. Thank you very much.

I bought a small French Press (about 2 mug size) and I am ambivalent about whether to bring it.

If the Coffee Card seems reasonable, I may go for it and lighten my packed luggage.

CAROLYN: Do you have information on the COFFEE CARD? Thank you! :D

Carolyn, awesome info. That's remarkable you have the time to spare to post and answer questions, thank you!

Some questions though:

1. Wifi access. You mentioned earlier that it was $.35/minute. Is this the same rate in the internet lounge? Is it fast enough to make internet calls?

2. Pools, jacuzzis. Are the pools heated, are they crowded and is it hard to get a lounge chair

3. Drink card. Does Princess still have the fountain card? If so, how much is it enforced?

4. BOB (Bring your own booze). How diligent is the security screening if you bring your own alcohol onboard?

5. Are there any steak and/or lobster nights?

6. Is a glass of wine complimentary in the paid dining rooms or speciality restaurants?

Thanks again,

Definitely controlled by the passengers. There is a button at the far end of the pool. If someone wants to swim against the current, they just turn it on. Most folks don't last long swimming against it, I can tell you that. :)

And don't worry, even when it is turned on, you have to be right in front of the jets to feel the full effect - it doesn't involve the entire pool. If you're at the opposite end near the stairs, or off to the sides, you won't feel the current at all. (can you tell I spent a lot of time there on the CB in April? - lol)

I know you have many questions to answer but is there anybody on the Crown who can answer this? When will they be updating the Princess web site to show the Crown's actual staterooms? As it is they say there is no image available for most of the rooms and suites nor are there any floor plans. I know I could look at one of the other ships for an idea but I would like to see the Crown's actual pictures.

Thanks.

Carolyn:

Thanks for taking time to help us all - your time spent is certainly "for the good of the cause"!

I now you haven't posted replies to my previous questions yet and from the amount of postings you had lately, it's probably a technical problem. However, I have another that's popped into my mind and since you're in a mini, I'll bet you can answer it. Can you get to the electrical outlets behind the flat screen TV's to plug in extension cords? With the older type TV's you could reach behind the TV to plug in a surge strip for multiple outlets but with the new flat screens is there enough room between the back of the TV and the outlet to plug anything else in? I sure hope there is because I need that power to run my laptop, gps, camera chargers, cell phone chargers, etc. - you know, the essential stuff :D
