The news outlets know a lot less than is being reported here... Headline news is about to do a story after a commercial, and is showing a grainy images of the ship outside the port. They are only reporting a steering problem, heavy roll, and passenger injuries.

Hey Matt- we are(were) on the 8/25 voyage.:( Just reported on ABC local in NY- a pax from ship on cell phone. He told about many injuries to elderly and heading back for medical care. He didn't know what happened- just saw all the water entering ship.

We'll have to see what develops.

My heart goes out to all who had to experience this. Especially Carol- who was reporting about her wonderful time.

Crown Princess Statement

July 18, 2006

After departure from Port Canaveral at approximately 3:40 pm eastern time, Crown Princess experienced an unexpected list to the port side as she began sailing north towards her final port of New York.

The ship is safe, and seaworthy, and we are currently investigating the cause of the list. We understand that some passengers were injured as the ship sharply turned, and we are in the process of determining the number of injuries and their extent.

Crown Princess is now returning to Port Canaveral, where the ship will be met by medical personnel to assist passengers who may require medical attention.

Further details will be released as they become available.

Crown Princess is currently on a 9-day Western Caribbean sailing, roundtrip out of New York, with calls at Grand Turk, Ocho Rios and Grand Cayman. Port Canaveral was the last port of call before returning to New York.

Marine investigators checking to see if she is safe to go into port..as in might damage the port! He said all injuries minor. However they say there are 10 to 15 ambulances waiting.

It's a little crazy out here in Cape Canaveral. Lots of helicopters, mostly news that I can see, but some red/white ones (CG?). Was told by a Port worker in Canaveral Meats that 20 ambulances were requested, 4 pumper trucks, and other assorted emergency vehicles. As posted above, according to the news (Channel 2) the CG needs to establish that the ship is controllable before they will let it into Port since it's supposedly listing at 12%. Not sure what the option is.

Stay safe and very best wishes for a quick disembark

I haven't read the complete thread, so I apologize if anyone has posted this yet. I hope that you are all ok on the ship, and will be reading intently to make sure of that. I could not find any news online, however Princess did have the following press release on their web site:

Here's the link, with a copy of the article below:
