My husband and I were on the Norweign dream 11-14-06 andI foolishly forgot to put his prescription med in the safe.the last night of our cruise he discovered he was missing 6 of one med and 3 of another. we called security and it took [3 calls for them to get to our cabin ] thay filled out a report. as I expected .I understand thay have no control of what their staff might do; but I would have thought thay would have contacted us to apologize. that did'nt happen. so USE YOUR SAFES. oh yeah the meds just happend to be narcotics !!!! other than that the cruise was great be sure to spend the extra money to eat at the french restaurant .its well worth the extra $ 15.00 dollars you'll spend

Yes, Fifty dollars while i was sleeping. it was scary to thiink someone came in while i was sleepiing. They had the night before whle sleeping to bring the laundy back. I had gotten my things, and purse, ready the night before (it is a habit with me) to go ashore in the morning. When i came back the cabin boy was in there and i told him i had fifty dollars missing. He wanted to call security right then, I asked why, he said to search him. Well this is the next aftrnoon so you know, if, he did take it he wouldn't have it on him then since it all looked alike how could you prove something like that. No, i did not report it as i felt would do no good.

I have never had anything go missing from my cabin. But I have walked past several cabins where I noticed the door appeared closed but you could tell it was not latched. So when the person left the room they though it was closed but it really wasn't locked. Anyone could have just opened the door & helped themselves. Of course anyone includes staff too.

Never had anything stolen.

I think I'd FREAK OUT if someone came into my cabin while I was sleeping. I've never been a hard enough sleeper that someone could open the door and come in without waking me. In fact, I'd be upset that the cabin steward (or whoever) came in and didn't leave immediately when they saw me sleeping.

When we were in a balcony we encountered some strong wind suddenly, the balcony door slid open and wouldn't you know it! That blasted storm must've stolen a few hundred cubic meters of air from our stateroom in under a minute! Gotta watch those storms. :D

This happened to us! I started walking down the hall and realized I forgot something so I went back to the room and we had not pulled the door completely shut. Since then I have noticed this on others doors. Don't forget to take a minute and make sure your door is secured!

I've never had anything stolen from my cabin (14 cruises).

To the OP, why would someone call you to apologize? There was no proof that NCL (a member of their staff) was responsible for the theft, if indeed it was stolen. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I'm reading your post correctly, the "thief" stole 6 of one med and 3 of another - does that mean the "thief" didn't actually steal both entire bottles of medicine? If that's the case, I find it extremely odd that anyone would bother to open both bottles and take some of the pills instead of simply swiping both bottles.

My mom believes her leather coat "went missing" (Jewel). She says she distinctly remembers hanging it in her closet but when she went to pack to return home, it was not there. As she did not need it during the cruise, she is ubsure when exactly it disappeared.

I say "believes" as I was not in her cabin and there is always a chance she put it down somewhere (on the plane, during check-in, etc) and simply didn't realize it.

We, too had the problem of a non-latching door several times on our recent cruise.

Correct me if I am missing something but how exactly does someone get into your cabin while you are sleeping? On all the NCL cruises I have been on there has been a secondary lock on the door that could only be locked and unlocked from the inside. I always locked it at night or when I went to take a nap during the day. Even if the roomsteward had a key card that worked in your room they could not get in because of that second lock.

In over 20+ years of cruising - never had anything go missing.

On occasion, I have been forgetful and neglected to put my jewelry in the safe, left it lying out in place sight and our cabin steward pointed out to me that I should remember to use the safe!

We haven't had anything stolen either.

I have always worried though about when the cabin steward is cleaning a few rooms at a time and leaves all the doors open while he is back and forth between his cart and the other rooms. You will walk by see a room wide open and the cart in front of the next room over - the cabin steward is in their cleaning the bathroom or something but has a couple rooms left open. That is what bothers me more than a cabin steward steeling anything. Its leaving the doors open while cleaning.

Perhaps the person did not use the second lock. Also, depending on the lock, there still may be a pass key (just not one the room steward has easy access to).

my point is that, most of us are aware, some people just register to post negative things on these boards. Some could even be considered "far-fetched" remember the glass in the salad....? My point is why would you come here two months after your cruise to say that your someone broke into your stateroom AND safe to steel nine narcotic pills?

Read the rest of the responses, clearly I'm not the only one skeptical.

I lost some money once -- went to the casino when I got back to my room I found my money disappeard in the casino. Went back the next day, but lost more money. I don't go to casinos any more and surprisingly I haven't lost any more money. Those slots and tables are thiefs! :D

This time you stated your point. In your earlier post you made a statement that left me hanging. I wanted to know what your point, was so I asked.

Never had anything stolen in 20 cruises in 12 years. We use the safe for our money, passports, my little purse, DH wallet. But I leave the few pieces of jewelry that I wear on the dresser or nightstand. Grant you, none of it has carats of diamonds in it, but it's still jewelry including a peacock colored tahitian pearl necklace. On our October Crown Princess cruise our cabin steward, while tidying our room, put my earrings and necklace in one of those paper tops used on the drinking glasses. He turned it upside down - so it was like a little tray.

I guess my thoughts are that most crew would NEVER steal anything because it's not worth losing their jobs over. And my understanding is that if there is even a possibility of an inpropriety, the employee will lose their job anyway. So there can't even be a suspicion. I may be too trusting but we haven't had an issue yet. We do make it a point to meet our room steward immediately on that first day and are friendly and talk to him a bit.

If the OP doesn't want to participate anymore then his/her question/experience has run its course. Thanks for all the varying opinions. :)
