LampMan874 Posted January 27, 2007 #2 Share Posted January 27, 2007 I like what I've seen floating around... (pun intended): MS Edam It keeps with the theme.... Something that would be missed with the name they chose.

sail7seas Posted January 27, 2007 #4 Share Posted January 27, 2007 Is it carved in stone yet? Has steel been cut yet? I'd vote for Edam over Eurodam/Dollardam/Yendam/Pesodam any day. My first choice would have been Spaarndam. Not sure anyone is particularly interested in our opinions. :P

My first choice would have been Spaarndam. Not sure anyone is particularly interested in our opinions. :P Seattle certainly is not!;) You already know this, S7S, but this name came out as the winner of a "name that ship" contest for and by all HAL employees. The odds of HAL's powers to be changing this into something more Holland America Line historical and traditional like Spaarndam, Leerdam, Edam, etc. are about the same as the L.A. Kings winning the Stanley Cup this year:eek:
Vic The Parrot Posted January 27, 2007 Author #6 Share Posted January 27, 2007 I realize nothing is ever final, and there's time for them to rethink. But I started this to have a little fun. So, let's hear your suggestions. :)

RevNeal Posted January 28, 2007 #17 Share Posted January 28, 2007 Alreadyhadthreadsaboutothernamesfortheshipdam I seriously doubt that the name "Eurodam" was written on more than one piece of paper in that so-called competition ... said piece of paper being monogramed with the initials SK. From what I was told by my contacts at HAL HQ, no one is really happy about the name choice.

Krazy Kruizers Posted January 28, 2007 #22 Share Posted January 28, 2007 Personally I like the name: Markendam - Marken is a village in Holland near Volen.
Steamboatin Posted January 28, 2007 #23 Share Posted January 28, 2007 In keeping with HAL's history the following names have possibilities. Medevacdam (Medical evacuation) Heliomedevacdam (Helicopter medical evacuation) Alphadam (Code: Alpha, Alpha, Alpha medical alert code) Seems that HAL has the most experience in the cruise industry in these areas. So why not brag a little.:D
