Either you're extremely very wealthy or you work forRCL, which I happen to like. I was on her Sept 1, 2001, to Alaska, was her maiden year. What a great trip, had dinner with the Capt and saw all the workings of the ship. On Sept 21st, returning to Alaska on different route, but going on HAL. My TA wants me to do Celebrity next, he says these 3 lines are as good as you can get, unless you go Luxury,Crystal,Seabourn.Regent.I listen to him as he's never steered me wrong.

Read again the last dozen posts and can't figure out what is meant here and who is the object of these comments. Hope that all involved are calm and comfortable, nevertheless.

I am confused as well ? What does this have to do with cabin selection and whether a room is good or not ? Maybe the poster meant to post on another forum ????

Any opinions of Carnival Triumph #7352 Balcony Cabin? This will be our first cruise, and I don't mind a little noise, but would like to get some sleep while on vacation without the kids :) I think both deck 6 and 8 are mainly cabins, so hopefully it will not be too loud, but if anyone has any personal knowledge, it would be greatly appreciated!

Any comments on this cabin? Icon said it will sleep 4, does lower beds convert into a queen?

Hi Galelynn! You've long since sailed but I thought I'd put in a reply to your questions since I stayed in C510 last year. It's a wonderful stateroom. Very decent size, lots of storage and with plexiglass on the balcony, no obstructions. The balcony itself is huge and has plenty of room for a table and four deck chairs.

The bottom bunks do convert to a queen, but only if the two upper bunks are not in use. We had hoped to put our little ones in the queen bed below while we took the upper bunks, but that's against policy. If you want to sleep four, it's four bunks.

Happy sailing -

Leah

Do not book any cabin that sits directly below the pool deck. On Carnival I believe it's the Lido deck. The Lido deck on Carnival is usually split with pools at both ends and the buffet in the middle. The buffet is carpeted whereas the pool areas are not. Try sleeping in one of those cabins. Makes no difference it it's inside or balcony. If it's directly below the Lido deck pool areas, you WILL receive a lot of noise all day and half the night due to furniture being slid around the deck (tables and chairs). The walls in my cabin actually vibrated. I had to have three ship's officer's come to my cabin to validate my complaint. Apparently they didn't insulate between the two decks. On our Miracle Panama repositioning cruise in March, I made sure our cabin had no noise makers around us. I slept like a baby on deck 5.

sometimes first time cruises are disappointed because they envision laying out there on lounge chairs. Getting all 4 of you out there will be VERY tight

The only balconies that have lounge chairs to lay out on are the Junior Suites.

We can sure tell your favorite cruise line. Anyway, every balcony I've had did have 1 lounge chair and 1 regular chair. Since you sail Rccl a lot, maybe you are referencing their policy. Every cruise line has their own perks.

Sounds strange from someone who likes to spend time on a cruise ship once or twice a year? I was fooled two winters ago and seduced by price, aft balcony/large cabin, location, and brand-new ship. I though new construction would take into account room use characteristics and contemporary engineering. Forget it! Ours was one of three cabins directly over an entertainment venue in which the speaker system was attached to the ceiling! What could be more stupid? Also, obviously passenger relations is taught to lie and say that you "are the only one" ever to complain (and then you are out on the balcony and check with others who also can't stand the noise levels when in bed at least until 3AM!

Yes, no matter what the cabin, check above and below and go for locations where another passenger cabin (not public space) is also found. No reason to expect anything different. I think that this is a continuing disappointment in cruise ship construction. (Yes?)

But how many people go to complain. Especially first time cruisers who think this is what they booked and this is what they are stuck with. I think MOST people do not say anything

The ship was the Carnival Magic (and I am a stockholder and quite experienced cruise ship passenger in my 60s) the port was Galveston (< 1 hour from my front door) the date was New Year's 2011 (the ship being in its first year). Indeed, the ship neighbors also forced not to sleep at night were two much younger couples (maybe 20s or 30s?) but they had already gone and complained and received some degree of reimbursement BEFORE I had gone to passenger services and met with the manager.

That being said, and if the opportunity arises, I will ask about corporate objectives with new ships. I can't believe that the two largest cruise corporations don't know that sound insulation in parts of ships is a real problem. I also know, however, that corporations are only out for profit and this includes companies that build ships? I don't know what Carnival can do once such a problem is found. Why can't a speaker system in a room be relocated from the ceiling (just below passenger cabins with high price tags) to the walls or the floor, or maybe a different type of speaker system would be less problematic? I don't know how motivated Carnival (or for that matter RCCL) is to fix such problems. My current TV is from Comcast, I have called twice (I think each time to India or elsewhere in Asia) to tell them five specific pay channels have stopped working, and I have gotten nowhere. Maybe they are too big, my impression is with a monopoly they just don't give a xxx! Therefore, operations like Cruise Critic should be member advocates and at a minimum educate its members to take cabin selection as a serious issue. Know the advantages and disadvantages, beyond $$, of various cabins. For me, I hope I've learned. Saturday we board the Star Princess and have balcony cabins with the same above and below. In December we get on Jewel of the Seas and have an aft balcony with the same above and below. This is my "theme" and I'll keep it up if anyone bothers to listen!

the problem is people dont listen. I cant tell you how many people will complain about being in a nosiy area when its listed.

The best bet is to book a stateroom that is sandwiched between two passenger decks. We've only had noise from the stairs/elevators once and that was on the Celebrity Galaxy. Normally, it is not a problem at all. The exception to the "sandwich" theory is having a cabin below the Royal Suite (Voyager class - Deck 10) or the Presidential Suite (Radiance - Deck 10) class on Royal Caribbean. Those suites have pianos and are often booked by corporations with lots of parties and foot traffic not to mention banging on the piano! Why some cruise lines put the expensive suites on the deck below pools is a mystery.

Just upgraded from an OV room to a balcony on Radiance of the seas sailing 9/13/13. We now have #8044. Any opinions?

Btw, we've never had a balcony cabin before so we don't know what to expect

Great upgrade, you'll love the cabin, no issues at all. :)

Prefer mid-ship, balcony, with staterooms above and below us. However, many ships, nowadays, have evening entertainment in those centrums and noise will drift upwards, so as to have a private concert, whilst trying to sleep. Expect that noise and you won't be aggravated - it typically ends by 11P. If you are located next to a service room, you will hear Noise that can be disturbing. ASK before you book what "touches" your stateroom.

It's a floating city, expect aggravating noises

any of the last 20 rooms aft on the freedom of the seas (RCL) the hall in that back area smelled of urine and sewage plus the noise from down below was terrible. I have had a room on deck 6 above the casino on the victory and above the show lounge on the magic and never had a problem

I was looking for an inside cabin on a cruise to nowhere out of NYC. I had cruised on the NCL Gem before and had a great trip. I took a forward cabin with a porthole for the price of an inside cabin...woopie! NOT! The cabin was great, not the location. I could not sleep, heard EVERY wave that hit the bow. That made the trip a horror...NEVER AGAIN!

I would apply this to any cruise line. You have been warned.:D
