Radience 2/3-2/11 Brawl in Starquest

Does anyone have any info on the brawl that happened in the Starquest lounge?

I was on this cruise with my family. My brother said that the Starquest bartender told him that some 60-yr old guy was chatting up a girl at the bar. The girl's bodybuilding boyfriend (maybe on steroids) freaked out, broke a bottle, and cut the 60-yr old. Later in the week, there were rumours that the bodybuilder was being held in his room and when we got to St Thomas was handed over to authorities. The 60-yr old was said to be "touch and go".

Does anyone have any other information? I'm curious to know what happened.

On same cruise. Didn't witness the brawl but this was brought up @ the Captain's Corner (open forum to talk with Capt., Engineer, Cruise Director and Environmental Ofc). An elderly couple who had seen the security guards in their hallway - Asked the captain 'why are there 2 security guards in our hallway on 24 hr watch?' - - Captain stated there had been a problem in the Starquest - a male passenger was in his cabin with 2 security guards outside his door. He would be taken off the ship in St. Thomas. Everything was under control etc...

I thought they had a brig on board. Wonder why they didn't just toss this guy into it.

I wonder about that too. Why would they detain him in his cabin and not put him behind bars until St. Thomas?

It seems to me it would have been easier on security.

I also heard about this while in Antigua on the Serenade. We were parked right next to the Radiance and someone told my friend about the fight. She also said she wasn't having a great time on that cruise. I also wondered why they'd give this thug the benefit of hanging out in his cabin instead of a jail cell.

They did the same thing on our last Majesty Cruise. A wedding guest got drunk and got onto the bridge, telling everyone to stop the ship he wanted to get off. They escorted him back to his cabin, where he broke some pictures in the hallway, they then had 2 security guards posted outside the cabin until we got to Nassau where they handed him over to the Police. Seems strange that they didn't put him in the cells

Why invite potential litigation IRT incarceration? They can confine him to his stateroom, he still can't get out without getting past the guards, and they don't have to worry about potential bad PR over someone being "jailed" on the cruiseship.

I guess RCI doesn't want another incident like the one about 5 years ago when a man who was not a passenger and high on something got on the ship (Voyager I believe) in St. Martin with female passenger. I guess he was later abandoned or dumped on board by this female and got found out when he asked a crew member where could he get a room and something to eat (dumb ? on cruiseship). They put him in their brig (security lockup)because he didn't have a cabin onboard I imagine, until he could be turned in to the authorities in St. Thomas. He was killed (compression suffocation) when crew members were restraining him after he started to act violently before arriving in St. Thomas. It was a big thing here in Canada at the time since this fellow was from Toronto and was vacationing in St. Martin when this occured.

After this incident I noticed that the ports authorities really beefed up their pier security check of returning passengers.

I just think it's horrible that people go on cruises and can't 'behave.' Why potentially ruin anyone else's vacation by acting out? And the thought of being turned over to authorities outside of the US certainly doesn't appeal to me.

Overdrinking to excess was probably the main reason someone would do this. At least St. Thomas is a US territory. I agree it would be worst if charges and incarceration occured outside the US.

They have glass beer bottles onboard? I thought a majority of them were made of plastic now? You'll have to excuse me as I'm not much of a beer drinker. I guess if it wasn't a beer bottle, it could have been any other form of glass or bottle that was broken and used as a weapon.

Amazing that someone would be so jealous of a 60 yr old talking to your girlfriend. The oddest thing I ever saw was on a dance excursion boat at Lake of the Ozarks, MO. A guy (drunk I assume) kept hitting on the lead guitar players SO. The guitar player warned the guy half a dozen times before he took off his guitar and cold cocked the guy upside the head with it. That pretty much ended the cruise that night.
