Carnival is eliminating their topless decks...

Recommended Posts

I just heard today from a Carnival Vacation Planner that they are, in fact, eliminating their topless decks effective immediately on their entire fleet. They didn't give a reason, but did say that something must've happened for them to make such a quick and immediate decision like that. Wonder what is was?

I for one am thrilled. And it means when we take a family cruise next year, Carnival will be considered, and it was out of the running up til now. I've seen photos here that show the clear view of the deck from the top of the water slides, which I know my children would want to use.

Carnival might gain me as a customer from this decision. And I've told many friends to avoid Carnival if they are looking for a family friendly line.

I've been on plenty of Carnival ships and unless one is trying to see what is up there then it is pretty well hidden and I have never in all my cruises seen anything out of hand. In Europe this is considered a normal thing and even some US based cruise lines allow topless sunbathing while they have ships based on the other side of the pond.

That's odd. On all three of our Carnival cruises, it was very well hidden. Did you actually see this yourself while on a Carnival ship?

I was up on the Pride's topless deck (but kept my top on). Although quiet, many men were up there 'looking for Cuba' and the like. Teens were looking over from a higher deck, also looking for Cuba, I imagine. Deck hands were constantly reorganizing the deck chairs. Not my cup of tea, but to each their own.

Maybe now the childish "boobie" threads on the Carnival board will decrease!:p One can only hope.

It's normal in China to eat Tiger. Should RCI announce a new soup to the menu? :)

The "They do it too" argument is becoming tiring. I'm not there, I'm here where my cultural/moral values have raised most of us to disprove of public nudity. I'm content with it being this way.

You even finished your point by stating that it is only allowed when US cruiselines are in Europe. If I want it then I'll go there.

Kudos to Carnival. I always found this public need to expose one's self trashy and unnecessary.

To be honest, I am fine with this opinion as long as it applies equally to both MEN & WOMEN... "No topless sunbathing" should mean no topless men either.

There are lots of moral/cultural values in the US which have been very wrong in the past... Some people on these would have been brought up with black people in slavery and women not having the vote for example. Fortunately progress has meant that these two things are nolonger morally/culturally correct.

Also, if such a BIG THING was not made of women's breasts, then so many men/teens/deckhands wouldn't feel the compulsion to "look for Cuba" on the topless deck .

Personally I don't choose to sunbathe topless, but I support a woman's right to choose - if it is ok for men to do, why is it not ok for women to do?

A woman's breasts are what nature intended (well, those who haven't had surgery to turn them into something a bit freakish...) - I just can't believe that someone could describe seeing that part of a woman's body as "trashy" . :(

Sorry, I don't think that it is normal to eay Tiger anywhere.

So, what a lot of people are saying is that they stay on the ship in any port that topless sunbathing is allowed.

I hardly ever post a response to something but this topic has really set me of….

Personally I don’t understand all the controversy regarding this, if you don’t want to sunbath topless….then don’t!

It isn’t like Carnival allowed it all over the ship, they confined it to a very small out of the way deck. Obviously Carnival made this change because someone complained. The person or people who complained are probably the same people who go to the nude beach in St. Maarten/Martin and freak out when they see naked people! We’re not talking about Carnival allowing full nudity, we’re talking about a lady taking her top off….BIG DEAL! I’ve heard the argument, “what if my kids see it?” If they do, simply tell them that some people like to sunbath topless, and big deal if they see a breast!! It won’t be the end of the world, and I’m sure they’ll see more breasts in one hour of TV than they will from a one week cruise!! Is it really so bad to expose your kids to other cultures and ideas? There are many reasons a lot of other countries think of Americans as conservative prudes, and this is certainly one of those reasons!!!!

There is no need to get bent out of shape over a lady taking her top off to sunbath on a secluded deck!!!

I for one LOVE the topless deck. Few people, no kids and the best bar service:D

My favorite saying is that if you don't like the TV show- change the channel! you pay for cable, but might not watch a violent or religious movie..... just don't tell me what can be viewed on my cable.

Can't stand smoke, sit in non smoking....against gambling, don't go to a casino or bingo. These are all public things allowed on ship which give guests... CHOICES!

I just don't see how up tight people can get about breasts!.... don't go there then geeze:confused: I hate the shows and the outfits worn by the dressers on carnival are quite baring... doesn't mean we have to cancel them or cover up the girls!

I'm becoming intolerant of others' intolerance... perhaps intolerance should be removed as well;)

to each their own IMHO

Completely agreed. A breast is a breast - whether it is male or female. I don't take the argument that "women's breast are sexual, that is why men can go topless and women can't - we can't have women exposing their sexual organs in public and especially infront of children". Unless I have an unusual love life, men's breasts/nipples are just as sexual as women's.... So either breasts (both men's and women's) are ok to be seen in public or they are not.

If children were used to seeing topless bathing then seeing a pair of breasts REALLY wouldn't be such a big thing. Little girls would grow up feeling less embarrassed about a natural part of their body (and, if they saw more women with natural breasts, so many probably wouldn't feel the urge to go out and get a boob job...). The same with boys: if they grow up with women's breasts being a normal thing, then they may not get such a "thing" about them in later life (and probably get an unrealistic view of what a breast is - since virtually of what they see are on TV, films or in men's magazines... probably surgically enhanced out of all proportion)

Personally, I'm sorry they changed the rule...I had my first experience with topless sunbathing just last year and even thought I'm not an exhibitionist, but I would've done it again....nothing wrong with trying new things in life!

It's because it isn't a big thing and it doesn't make you an "exhibitionist" - if you discretely sunbath topless, then there is no harm in that (it isn't the same as prowling around the top deck giving every guy in sight a lap dance...). If you are proud and comfortable with your own body, that is a wonderful thing :). I think it is a shame if Carnival take away this opportunity from people.

It wasn't THAT long ago that bikinis were considered completely indescent on US soil...

no kidding. I am shocked at the close-minded opinions of some on this thread. and "what if my kids see those breasts"???? please. perhaps these parents should keep their kids in their cabins with the drapes drawn intead of letting them roam free over the ship all week.

They eat dogs in Guatemala. I I HAD to choose between tiger and dog on a ship - I think I'd skip eating.

I agree with the "they do it too" comment you made. Maybe we should all (women) cruise covered up from head to toe - not show so much as our faces - after all, some cultures do it, too, and some of them really believe that is normal and acceptable.

It's not the "intolerence" that is the problem being claimed by mostly men. It's the oggling of the breasts by men in the first place that causes the problem. If it's so normal and should be so acceptable by this culture, maybe men ought to take the lead and mind their own business while the women choose to not get tan lines.

Personally, when I was a teenager, I had a great tan with no tan lines and always wore my top. That's a silly argument. Has anyone heard of a strapless bathing suit? Or just lowering the straps while laying there?

To the people who find topless women offensive, I suggest that they not visit Canada especially in the summer time. The Cdn. Supreme Court struck down a conviction for this in a public place over ten years ago, thus it is allowed but definitely not the norm. To tell the true, I've seen this perhaps two or three times here in Canada (in a beach area) in the last ten years.

I wonder what the men would think if it was required to be completely nude on that deck or - don't show up at all. Then we women could go up there and snicker with our girlfriends about how tiny some guys are and drool over the well endowed guys.

That really is all that topless sunbathing is in this country. Otherwise, why would men even go to that deck? They can't do anything on the topless deck that they can't do down below - other than look.

Would you men support a topless deck that was available to women only? No peeking at all by men?
