Surprise her, if you can keep it a secret. :)

I vote for surprise her too. Imagine the look on her face when you are escorted to a luxury suite ... and she was just expecting a veranda. Man, will she be thrilled!

Blue skies ...

I wish I'd seen this thread a month ago. I booked Sis and I on a 3-day repositioning (wanted to do a 4-day but that pesky Jones Act stopped us) and at the last minute I upgraded us from a standard outside to a balcony.

I wanted to keep it a secret and envisioned her surprise as we moved from the Lido waiting area when the all clear was sounded to go to our rooms.

But then I realized that there was no way to keep it a secret that long. I mean, she has to have the right luggage tags on her cases, she has to go online to fill out her docs and they will show our cabin number.

So, I fessed up early. For future trips, how do you keep this kind of thing a secret?

Thanks,

Diann

Diann, In a case like yours it is a bit harder. With couples usually it is one that does all the paper work so it is much easier to keep it a surprise. For Nathan, I think he has handled all the booking and paper work as well and Mom does not read the CC board;) so I think it will also be easy for him to keep it a secret. Now the question will be will he???? I am not one that wagers but....I got bets he can't stand it and tells her.:D

Well, it's been easy to keep it from her so far as I haven't been home. But I get home Monday for the week as we prepare for the trip and THAT is where the real test will come!

SURPRISE HER........thats my vote. I'm with PrincessYoga....... spoil her....Moms are worth it all!

Wish I could be there to see her face.

You'll see her face as I'll have the camera at the ready as we enter!:D FLASH FLASH FLASH!!!

That will be such a hoot, can't wait to see those flashy, flashy pictures, WOW, this is going to be so perfect and may I say what a great son you are. You'll keep it a secret, I'm betting against LaffNVegas prediction.

Hi,

another vote for surprise - but I can't talk I'd never have been able to keep a secret like that!! May I just ask from what to what were you upgraded andhow long in advance did you know?

Have a good one,

Teresa

I booked a SS GTY and we got an assignment on that a couple of weeks ago and were told the ship was sold out so I gave up on any upgrade hope. Then Thursday my TA called with an offer from HAL to upgrade for $149.00 pp to SA and that was 10 days before the cruise.

A bit different perspective:

It's my elderly mother and I on this cruise. I've never cruised. Mom has twice (once on the paddlewheeler on the Columbia), but they've never sprung for a balcony/verandah. I booked the VH guaranty, told Mom about the amenities. When we FINALLY got our assignment 10 days from embarkation we'd been assigned a SS! I never thought about holding out for a surprise, and am glad I didn't. Her biggest excitement about the entire cruise? The bigger room, the bigger verandah?? Nope - it's that whirlpool bath!!

THAT she's excited about!!

SakeDad PLEASE PLEASE try to keep the surprise, it will be SO SO worth it!!!!

On our last cruise we booked a blacony and as we were going to be sailing during our Anniversary I decided to upgrade us to a suite as a surprise for hubby. Well, on boarding I almost burst and it took every little ounce of strength not to tell him while we waited to be allowed to our cabin (we boarded early). When we opened the door at first he didn't realise it was a suite and not the balcony we had booked as we had never cruised in a balcony or suite before, anyways, when I started to point out ALL the perks his jaw just dropped ... I have to say it was definately the BEST surprise ever so....... keep that tounge tied !!!!

YES MA'ME!!! I have been able to so far...and now you give me more reasons to wait until we're in the suite!:D That reminds me, I better take the paper that tells everything you get in the suite...:)...I'll give her the first one that lists regular suite perks then the second that says what the "suite life" gets us!
