What does your screen name mean?

Mine is really boring. My first name and last initial. Can't get less creative than that. At least I can remember it easily! LOL

LOL me too I like the easy ones. I have a hard time remembering names to begin with let alone adding screen names and real names

The Origin of my online handle is very deep, and very personal. I put a lot of thought into my name.

Given to Fly is the title of a song written by Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam.

The song's lyrics have always been very powerful to me, and

through many tough times, I've identified with them. It is a

song about a man, beaten and broken by those around him,

yet still finds the strength to not only stand, but to fly.

Whether you take the concept of flight literally or metaphorically

makes little difference, as the character in the song still finds love

in the world, and love to share with others, regardless of how he's

been treated by those around him.

When singer / songwriter Eddie Vedder was asked in an interview

what the song meant, this was his response:

(I imagined the song as) a 20-page cardboard (children's) book with

a line on each page and a picture to go with it. It's a fable, that's all.

The music almost gives you this feeling of flight....[it's] is all about

rising above anybody's comments about what you do and still giving

your love away. You know? Not becoming bitter and reclusive,

not condemning the whole world because of the actions of a few

Given To Fly

Lyrics by Eddie Vedder

He could’ve tuned in, tuned in

But he tuned out

A bad time, nothing could save him

Alone in a corridor, waiting, locked out

He got up outta there, ran for hundreds of miles

He made it to the ocean, had a smoke in a tree

The wind rose up, set him down on his knee

A wave came crashing like a fist to the jaw

Delivered him wings, "Hey, look at me now"

Arms wide open with the sea as his floor

Oh, power, oh

He's.. flying

Whole…

High.. wide, oh

He floated back down 'cause he wanted to share

His key to the locks on the chains he saw everywhere

But first he was stripped and then he was stabbed

By faceless men, well,

He still stands

And he still gives his love, he just gives it away

The love he receives is the love that is saved

And sometimes is seen a strange spot in the sky

A human being that was given to fly

I am sure I have heard this song, but I will have to double check. I like the reason!

Laoghaire is Gaelic for my maiden name--Leary. Although I am French Canadian, German, Norwegian----If you did a DNA test it would come out 100% Irish!! Been to Ireland 7 times, counting the hours until I can go again!

Helen

Oh, Helen, how I wish I had found you on here sooner when I started reading the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. There is a character with the name of Laoghaire and it drove me crazy until I figured out how to pronounce it.

After a cruise from New York to Bermuda, I was laughing with a friend about the unbelievable amount of counterfeit designer handbags and luggage I had seen aboard, especially the "pirate Pradas".

MsEscada and NoPiratesPlease were two of the posters I was reading the day I registered. Escada reminded me of Prada, Prada reminded me of pirates and it all fell into place.;)

Mine was taken from an experience we had on our second cruise.

We were on the Carnival Elation and the Cruise director was giving an overview of the Excursions. There were 2 that were the exact same , but he kept pushing everyone to take the most expensive one. $25 pp difference.

There was at least 5 questions asking to explain the difference, but he kept pressing the higher priced one.

There was this older gentleman (he must have been mid- seventies at the youngest), he looked around and said, "Who does this guy think he is, some kind of "ExcursionPimp":D

The group around us (including myself) just rolled over with laughter

I just thought it was the funniest thing.

When I joined here later on, I used that as my sign on.

WELL..

i love cruising and travelling ...the more I travel the longer the list gets...

and 8, is my favorite number..so why not double it?:D

You're so lucky to live in the "hub" of North America cruising. In L.A. all we have is Mexican Riveria. We have to fly to catch all the other cruises.

Anyway, I was born in the year of the sheep and so is my best friend. twobabylambs was my first online identity 10+ years ago and it just stuck.

4evrwild (For Ever Wild) is the designation given to the Adirondack Park in New York State. It comprises of many small towns, mountains and valley regions and is protected underal state law from growth and development. Since we have a place on a small man made lake in the Adirondack Mountains region, I used this as my CC name. I wanted Ruth 504 but it was already apparantly taken.

Ruth :) 4evrwild
