I am wondering if any of you have ever been in Haiti beside labadee????? We have been the second largest city is just 15 miles from the beach, with a major airport which we went back and forth to the US many times! It would be VERY easy for the company to have someone taken to the airport and flown home. I lived in cape haitian ( the nearest city) with our 3 small kids for 8 years, never had a problem. Dont believe all you read and we went to labadee every sat and we also were there on the days the ship was there so people do go in and out.

 

 

Reading this thread, I knew sooner or later someone would pop in that new the true facts about the city and airport in Haiti. ;) Thanks Demodawn.;) Good Grief! It is not Gilligan's Island folks. The airport is very close to labadee.

I would think it would be difficult to make travel plans to get home from any port on short notice, but especially in Labadee...I am all for enforcing the rules but that would be an extreme situation...I guess if the actions posed a risk to the safety of others on board it would be warrented though

How Rude and unnecessary. I am not going to argue with you, but you are wrong. While Haiti is not the safest country, there is an airport and at times people are escorted to the airport as a security precaution. I have been involved first hand. It's a sad situation when it happens, but it does.

To make a point to the other troublemakers :D

 

Their actions at Labadee may have led to them getting kicked off, however I bet they were left at the next stop.

During the muster drill on the Navigator last week(Thanksgiving week), whomever was doing the first part of the drill brought up RCI's Guest Conduct Policy. When the Captain came on to release everyone, he brought it up again. We had no problems that I know of last week with any passengers. Glad to see RCI enforcing this policy. If more examples were set then maybe it would cut down on some of the trouble makers.

I am just off Grandeur as well. Captain had to put a family off at San Juan and made daily comments about parents keeping control of their children. He clearly stated that a family had been put off at Labadee:( . I witnessed many children running about ship unsupervised. Captain made a number of comments about his responsibility to the safety of other passengers. It was a great cruise:D , great ship but I don't think I will cruise again when so many children will be aboard.

The qualification there is that if you are willing to sign all sorts of waivers prior to going through the fence they'll let you into Haiti proper, but they won't let you back through.

 

Looks like we have folks who actually witnessed this so I will take their word for this.:rolleyes:

I have been to Labadee once, while on a mission trip to Haiti. So I've been through the great wall (from outside and back). And we were lucky enough to drive to Labadee to enjoy the beach and go for a swim. The people of Haiti are wonderful, kind and gentle people. Yeah, there were soldiers as checkpoints with machine guns, and of course the witch doctors all around the countryside, but other than that.... I remember the "long drive" through Cap Hatien and through the countryside to get there... the roads were horrendous, as we were travelling in the back of a large cattle truck. It was much easier to stand and hold on rather than sit on the plank benches. It probably wasn't very far in miles, but in time, because of the traffic and people in Cap Hatien and the windy roads to the beach... it seemed like forever.

 

The cruiseline would have to have some kind of contact to take the offenders to. There is no way to leave somebody at Labadee.

 

I've often wondered if people actually understand when they are in Labadee that they are in Haiti (the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere)????? :p

Amen gram,To many kids, however I think the parents deserve a lot of blame here.Why do people take kids on a older smaller ship like the grandeur which has very little for them to do and then turn them loose.Shame on them!!

They probably had the port agents escort the family (i.e. the tender) to the airport so there would be no safety ramifications or liability for RCI.

 

Our cousins were enroute to Princess Cays when her mother died and Princess got them to Eluthera's airport where they got a flight back to Miami (more traveled route of course).

 

Glad to hear that the captain kicked off a familiy with unruly kids. From earlier posts, it sounds as if they were throwing shuffleboard pucks and starting fires which could endanger other passengers. No one should have to suffer because some folks won't discipline their kids.

Kids in the 1990's found things to do on Grandeur and her sisters. This is just a case of parents who will not control their kids and spoiled kids who have to be amused every second.
