PhoenixCruiser Posted November 26, 2007 #26 Share Posted November 26, 2007 Why would the Captain make an announcement about kicking someone off the ship to begin with? To make a point to the other troublemakers :D Their actions at Labadee may have led to them getting kicked off, however I bet they were left at the next stop. ###
ccletzgo Posted November 26, 2007 #27 Share Posted November 26, 2007 I am wondering if any of you have ever been in Haiti beside labadee????? We have been the second largest city is just 15 miles from the beach, with a major airport which we went back and forth to the US many times! It would be VERY easy for the company to have someone taken to the airport and flown home. I lived in cape haitian ( the nearest city) with our 3 small kids for 8 years, never had a problem. Dont believe all you read and we went to labadee every sat and we also were there on the days the ship was there so people do go in and out. Reading this thread, I knew sooner or later someone would pop in that new the true facts about the city and airport in Haiti. ;) Thanks Demodawn.;) Good Grief! It is not Gilligan's Island folks. The airport is very close to labadee.
cruiserbryce Posted November 26, 2007 #28 Share Posted November 26, 2007 I would think it would be difficult to make travel plans to get home from any port on short notice, but especially in Labadee...I am all for enforcing the rules but that would be an extreme situation...I guess if the actions posed a risk to the safety of others on board it would be warrented though
cruise_bunny Posted November 26, 2007 #29 Share Posted November 26, 2007 I don't care whether you worked on the ships or not, people CANNOT embark or disembark from Labadee. How Rude and unnecessary. I am not going to argue with you, but you are wrong. While Haiti is not the safest country, there is an airport and at times people are escorted to the airport as a security precaution. I have been involved first hand. It's a sad situation when it happens, but it does.

When the Captain came on to release everyone, he brought it up again. We had no problems that I know of last week with any passengers. Glad to see RCI enforcing this policy. If more examples were set then maybe it would cut down on some of the trouble makers.
gram23 Posted November 26, 2007 #31 Share Posted November 26, 2007 I am just off Grandeur as well. Captain had to put a family off at San Juan and made daily comments about parents keeping control of their children. He clearly stated that a family had been put off at Labadee:( . I witnessed many children running about ship unsupervised. Captain made a number of comments about his responsibility to the safety of other passengers. It was a great cruise:D , great ship but I don't think I will cruise again when so many children will be aboard.

Cruising89143 Posted November 26, 2007 #33 Share Posted November 26, 2007 I don't care whether you worked on the ships or not, people CANNOT embark or disembark from Labadee. The qualification there is that if you are willing to sign all sorts of waivers prior to going through the fence they'll let you into Haiti proper, but they won't let you back through. Looks like we have folks who actually witnessed this so I will take their word for this.

dino76 Posted November 26, 2007 #35 Share Posted November 26, 2007 I have been to Labadee once, while on a mission trip to Haiti. So I've been through the great wall (from outside and back). And we were lucky enough to drive to Labadee to enjoy the beach and go for a swim. The people of Haiti are wonderful, kind and gentle people. Yeah, there were soldiers as checkpoints with machine guns, and of course the witch doctors all around the countryside, but other than that.... I remember the "long drive" through Cap Hatien and through the countryside to get there... the roads were horrendous, as we were travelling in the back of a large cattle truck. It was much easier to stand and hold on rather than sit on the plank benches. It probably wasn't very far in miles, but in time, because of the traffic and people in Cap Hatien and the windy roads to the beach... it seemed like forever. The cruiseline would have to have some kind of contact to take the offenders to. There is no way to leave somebody at Labadee. I've often wondered if people actually understand when they are in Labadee that they are in Haiti (the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere)????? :p

Arizona Cruz Chic Posted November 26, 2007 #37 Share Posted November 26, 2007 Kicked off in Labadee and SJ....man those kids must of been really bad to be kicked off in Labadee! Wonder what the parents think now? Good for RC!! Its about time they enforced the rules and code of conduct! :) ***
iukbsn Posted November 26, 2007 #38 Share Posted November 26, 2007 Maybe the family/kids heard about the merger w/ Red Lobster and RCCL and went crazy?;)
suziehmkr Posted November 26, 2007 #39 Share Posted November 26, 2007 Glad to hear that RCCL is enforcing this. I only wish Princess had the "huevos" to do this to the family on our Island Princess holiday cruise in 2005/06. The entire ship would have applauded the captain. crsrock Posted November 26, 2007 #43 Share Posted November 26, 2007 On my last cruise in Nassau, the security guards were taking a passenger off the ship IN HANDCUFFS. Host Kewlguy Posted November 26, 2007 #46 Share Posted November 26, 2007 Congratulations to Captain Rob Hempstead for handing the situation exactly as I would have. For the record, Captain Hempstead is the only American Captain in Royal Caribbeans fleet.

I have been involved first hand. It's a sad situation when it happens, but it does. They probably had the port agents escort the family (i.e. the tender) to the airport so there would be no safety ramifications or liability for RCI. Our cousins were enroute to Princess Cays when her mother died and Princess got them to Eluthera's airport where they got a flight back to Miami (more traveled route of course). Glad to hear that the captain kicked off a familiy with unruly kids. From earlier posts, it sounds as if they were throwing shuffleboard pucks and starting fires which could endanger other passengers. No one should have to suffer because some folks won't discipline their kids.
