Kicked Off Ship

Thanks.

This story about 2 families being kicked off provides reinforcement on our decision to not sail during the holidays.

Take it from us, avoid cruising during the holidays as well as the summer. The off season is the way to go.

Agreed. But it also reinforces 100% my decision to only cruise RCI from now on. I like the way they handle things. Does my heart good to think that someone is actually dealing with these kids instead of looking the other way! I've cruised a couple other lines in the last year that could learn a thing or two (or ten!) from RCI.

Very reassuring point.

We haven't had it too bad in the summer -- have sailed in August and in early June. Maybe the kids are less concentrated than during holiday weeks.

Worst Royal cruise we ever had was on Enchantment in July 2005. Out of control kids running wild everywhere. Babies in diapers in solarium jacuzzi's. We swore off ever cruising during the summer months after that experience.

Learn something new every day! At least on the good days! :)

If you pull up my Cruise Map of Labadee, you can put in "cap" in the search box just under the map, and it will show you the airport at Cap Haitien. If you zoom "out" two or three clicks - then drag the map from upper left to lower right, you will see just how close to Labadee this is.

Sounds awful. However, maybe RCI will take a lead from the Grandeur captain and start enforcing their own rules.

We had the pleasure of meeting Captain Hempstead and besides the fact that he sounds like Captain Kirk he seemed like a great guy.

I guess they also could have taken them around the point on a tender and put the family on a another boat that would have taken them much closer to the the airport in Cap Haitien . Maybe they didn't drive or take any roads at all.

Wow, thats kind of harsh, but hey, gotta obey the rules, if ya dont, see ya :p Just want to point out that Labadee is not a private island, it is apart of Haiti. So they could very well put someone off there, Cococay may be a different story, but i wouldnt doubt it in Labadee.....

I was just wondering - what ages these kids are that are causing trouble enough to get "escorted off "...

From what I have been reading does not sound like anyone really knows for sure what happened. Seems all are assuming or repeating hearsay.........but I don't see any post that say's I know first hand what happened. Don't believe everything you read. People say maybe this happen and maybe that happened and then the other people start assuming that is what it was.

I don't see why they couldn't "land" someone at Labadee. Don't the locals who work there have to get home each night? Seems there must be a way to get home from there since it is not really an island unto itself like Coco Cay. Just thinking out loud :)

It is correct that any master at sea can choose to terminate your right to continue your journey aboard his vessel if he feels that you or those in your party under your control present a current or potential threat to his vessel, crew and passengers. Once you leave the three mile limit of our borders, you are subject to maritime law, as is anyone in international waters. You are completely under the authority of the master of the vessel, and, technically subject to the justice of the nation under which the ship is flagged, in most cases, the Bahamas, as far as RCCL goes. Bahamian authorities generally defer on infractions to the authorities of the passaenger's point of origin unless the offense is commited in Bahamian waters. On RCCL vessels, the decision to disembark a passenger(s) is usually made by the hotel director with Captain's approval, since he is the head of the hotel operation, and would be the ultimate reporting authority for that area, but the Captain is the final authority and can overrule or modify any decision of the HD. These types of actions are almost never taken without prior warning to the offending parties unless the offense is egregious. The port of disembarkation is determined by the risk level of allowing the offending parties to remain aboard, and can be one not to your liking and inconvenient. Be warned and conduct yourselves appropriately!

We cruised the Grandeur the beginning of Nov this year and had the pleasure of dining at Capt Hempstead's table and later being given a tour of the bridge by the Capt. He could not have been nicer or more interesting. More importantly though, it was obvious how much he loves the Grandeur and his job, and he made it clear that the safety of the passengers and crew were his primary concern. He is a huge asset to RCI and I will go out of my way to sail with him again.

As stated earlier my wife, myself, adult son and daughter, were part of this cruise. We became friends with two members of the cruise activities staff and learned some information about the first family removed in San Juan. It seemed that two children were changing and removing the breakfast requests from the stateroom doors late at night, which resulted in a large amount of complaints to the staff, for obvious reasons, when the parents were confronted with the with the security tapes, instead of reacting like most of us would and promising to disipline our children and correcting the problem, he breated the crewmembers and claimed they were falsely accusing his "poor little innocent children".

As far as too many unruly kids on the ship, it really was not apparent and for the most part it really was one of the best cruises I have been on. Captain Hemstead is one of the best, and I truly looked foward to his daily reports for the bridge.

I am glad you posted this with some knowledge.....I am actually concerned about our cruise next month. My kids are really good well behaved kids but you never know what anyone will do. What you stated above sounds like just innocent kids pranks........Some kids don't have the capability of thinking things through they just know would that not be fun and confusing to these people. They do not think of the consequences of their actions. My kids, as good as they are, could have done this thinking it is just a innocent prank.....but I surly would never defend them if this was something the ship felt so strongly about. It could happen to me. That is scary. I would at least expect a warning. But I would also read my kids the riot act. Even if I thought it was harmless. When in Rome do as the Romans and if the Captain says bad boy I say yes sir. If he say jump I say how high. I would never want to be kicked off.

 Just off Grandeur today and heard that some partys were kicked off the ship in several ports due to children being bad.One for sure in labadee.Anyone have any details?Stories about past passengers being landed as captain Rob called it.Great cruise, ship, captain funny and personable,Simion great.Any questions?

Not unlikely, especially if the childrens' behavior was so bad that it could not be tamed and others on the ship suffered. I do not think that one of us who are parents have not punished our children when they were getting too unruly. The best way to understand and have opinions about this whole matter is to try to find out and give us all the facts.

By the way, I'm sure this also applies to adults.

It has always amazed us how many children are let lose to roam the ship at will with out any parental supervision. And everyone says their kids are good! But I wonder when Mom and Dad aren't around if they still act like kids and get into mischief. :(

On our many cruises we have seen kids do minor infractions nothing more then an annoyance not worthing of getting kicked off the ship for. But too many parents use the security of a floating city to let their kids run free believing they are being good.....LOL.......not usually! :(

We always try to cruise when kids are in school and are usually surprised at the number of kids still on board...........I can't believe people take their kids out of school for a week to cruise...... :(
