Vent system in cabins, Smoking?

I understand that you can smoke in your cabin on Carnival ships. My question is if the vent system is really good or does your cabin just fill up with smoke. I don't smoke heavely but my husband does not smoke at all. If i smoked in the bathroom would the vent system keep the room fairly smoke free? Another question. We are going to cabo and ensenada and i would like to bring back some sort of alcohol for my brother as a suivenier gift. Is there a limit on how much you can bring back. I am not interested in smuggling it back on the ship i just want to bring back a few bottles of something we can't get here in Utah.

I'm in the same situation as you. I'm not a heavy smoker and DH doesn't smoke at all.

 

99% of the time, we get a balcony. I smoke out there because I just won't smoke in the cabin since he doesn't smoke. If we're in an OV, I just go to one of the designated smoking areas to light up.

 

I don't know anything about the ventilations system, but I can not imagine lighting up in the bathroom. I think you'd have a hard time finding the door handle through the smoke.

We cruised with friends of ours (she smoked he didn't) the room smelled of cigarette smoke...In fact the hallways around the peoples rooms who smoked lingered into the hallway..If the smell of cigarette smoke bothers your DH I def wouldn't smoke in your room..There are lounges, the casino, and certain sides of the ship that allows smoking.

It does get a little cloudy, especially with two people smoking. But we just prop open the cabin door and listen to people in the hallway whine about it. Seriously though, the ventilation is pretty good. If only one of you is smoking, it probably wouldn't be that bad. If we don't get a balcony, we don't spend much time in the room anyways, so it's not really an issue for us. As for the alcohol question, the rules differ depending on the ports you visit. You can get the lowdown at http://www.state.gov The bottom line is, you can exceed your allowance, you just have to pay duty on the amount that exceeds it. And they often will not collect it, as long as you're talking about a reasonable amount. But even if you have to pay the tax, it's like $2 a bottle, which is still a great deal considering you can get pretty good name brand stuff for under $10 a bottle.

I really hope you are kidding about propping the stateroom door open and letting the smoke filter out into the hallways while listening to others whining ! I too am a smoker and always just smoke either out on the balcony or a designated area of the ship and try to be respectful around non smokers at all times......this smoking topic has gotten so long and drawn out and has turned out to be an all out war here lately on the boards !

The venitllation system is not great if you are smoking in the cabin. If your husband is bothered by the smoke, don't do it in the cabin as they are small and the smoke will linger for awhile. He will have no escape. The bathrooms are not big and smoking in there would be a huge mistake.

Even if they filled the ships, the revenue of drinking and gambling would possibly be reduced thus the demise of the "Smoke Free" Paradise that was not generating the profits it had hoped to.

It's all about the financials... smoke free is not going to provide the return on investment that ships allowing smoking will provide.

 

That being said... I am a smoker and in total agreement with RCI's policies and forsee Carnival heading in that direction soon, but not in agreement with Celebrity's new soon to be enforced policies of no smoking in staterooms or on balconies......

 

I am willing to work with new policies as long as they are fair to ALL passengers !

 

Getting back to the OP's question regarding ventilation.... it is not great and if one is a smoker, it will certainly bother the non smoker, although I did find that the older "Fantasy" class ships seemd to have better ventilation in their staterooms vs. the newer ships.

We sailed on the Paradise when she was totally smoke free, it was a 10 day cruise out of Miami, I truly enjoyed that cruise and not having my clothing and hair smell like smoke.

 

I would book smoke free cruises in a heart beat.

 

For the OP, this past week onboard freedom, I know its a newer ship but you can try this. Lock yourself in the bathroom, there is a rush of air the gets sucked into the bathroom from under the door. The smoke should go right into the exhaust in the bathroom keeping the cabin cleared. If not then the second best thing is a balcony cabin.

We are both smokers and like to think that we are courteous about smoking. We do not smoke in our room and that is why we always book a balcony.

I think a smoke-free ship from a California port might work, lots of folks now drive to their closest port and the percent of smokers in California is alot lower than most other states. It just didn't work out of Miami.

The vent system probably depends on the ship. Last month on the Elation I don't think the vent in our bathroom was working well, the bathroom got steamier than I've ever seen on our other cruises. It wouldn't work well to smoke in that bathroom/cabin.

We are just home from our first cruise. We sailed on the Inspiration and LOVED it...all 6 of us!!

 

This was one of my 2 complaints for the week. I am a non smoker and was awakened on several nites by the smell of smoke in my room from my neighbor. I am very sensitive to smells and spent these nites very sleepless. :(

 

The smoke on the other decks did not bother me.

 

I wonder why they allow smoking in cabins but no irons...

p.s. My other complaint was the internet charges that I had to pay to contact my excursions at 2 ports due to our delayed arrival due to "propulsion problems" with the ship which we were notified about upon arrival on the ship.

 

We will definitely sail again!!

RCI is now enforcing the new smoking regulations....NO SMOKING INSIDE STATEROOMS, BUT ALLOWED ON BALCONIES.....

 

Wennfred is correct that the residue of smoke scent 9 times out of 10 is not present (if stateroom was smoked in previously, thanks to great checmicals used !), but if still lingering, your statroom attendant can reclean for you.
