Fights on Board

Oh I agree with you 100% those kinds of things can happen on land or at sea. But they do seem to happen more often when there is a lot drinking around and Carnival is more of the "Party" ship. We would cruise Carnival again. and as I stated it was just one reason we decided to try other cruise lines. Not to mention DH and I like to party too! But it was one of many little things that got us to try something new where as before we never even looked to sail another line.

I will also mention it does tend to happen more on the shorter cruises where there seems to be a younger crowd and more partying involved.

I guess it's all a matter of timing.. I have been on Celebrity 5 or 6 times.. NCL 2x and Carnival 2x and Carnival was the least of the party boats....Mostly familys

I witnessed a race riot aboard the MS Jubilee in February of '91 during disembarkation. Everyone was backed up in the stairwells standing around or sitting on luggage and the air was off while waiting to disembark. A family tried to push past those waiting in the stairwell and name calling with racial epitaths turned into an out and out brawl with hair pulling between the women and fists to jaws between the men. The melee grew to a full fledged riot involving over 35 pax as others joined in and the ship's personnel had to call the local police to board the vessel and make arrests. When I got to LAX I suggested to the Carnival employee holding the welcome sign for arriving Jubilee passengers for that day's sailing that she may not want to hurry them along to the coaches for transfer to the pier until the police had finished filling out their arrest reports. Boy did she look surprised!

That being said . . . I greatly considered cancelling a future sailing, because there are some unique details about the passenger manifest onboard that could lead to some uncomfortable situations.

How would one know? About the manifest?

. We'll just see how well diversity and alcohol get along on that one, and if the worst happens, I guess I'll have a lot more to add to this thread upon return from that sailing. Who knows, I could possibly become the first person to post a video on YouTube of someone being thrown overboard from the Lido by their heels.

Dont tease us!:p

That could be very true but I can only state our experiences and we have cruised at different times of the year. And we saw an increase in fights and bad behaviors on board Carnival. Carnival is a younger crowd then other lines, it is more of the party ship.

I know fights happen on other ships but so far on the two we have taken with another cruise lines we have not seen the bad behavior we were starting to experience more frequently on Carnival. JMHO :D

Believe me.. I am not cheerleading for Carnival.. But the worst behavior I have seen is on NCL!! I think it also depends on the time of year... I no longer cruise when there is a chance when there will be a lot of kids on board. But I would still sail NCL....

I found Celebrity to be the nicest..

We saw a fight on the Disney Cruise - the first night! I'm really not sure what it was about, but it was in the theater before the show - Hercules I think - and I know there were some grown people climbing OVER the seats - which was incredibly rude and obnoxious. I guess they climbed over one too many seats and a man who looked to be in his 50's got up and punched the guy! Then the wives get involved - it was really quite bizaare - and I don't think alcohol was involved at all. But the thing that was hysterical about it was the Cruise Director was standing on stage going, "Oh, no - no, - remember - Minnie, Mickey" It was really pretty funny. Security came and talked to them - and then both families stayed and watched the show! So it isn't just Carnival!

I agree with you 100%, I have been cruising on Carnival for over 15 years now and it has gone down hill. As the cruise price goes down I feel so do the passengers. My last cruise on the Celebration was a bad one. Around 12PM on embark day 25% of the passengers must have punched out of the local nut house. Most of them should have not been allowed out of there house let alone put on a cruise ship. That was a very cheep cruise. my last cruise on the Miracle over Christmas/ New Years was the most I ever spent on a cruise and there were no problems.

Started with a helpful tip I learned right here on these CruiseCritic boards, about checking for groups on future sailings.

Checked out that site, then individual sites, blog and chat links from those individual sites, and even MySpace pages. I became my own little Sherlock Holmes ('cept I don't smoke, so no pipe). You'd be quite surprised how much I've learned about a number of the passengers I'll be sailing with, none of whom I've ever met.

The internet can me a marvelous thing, but I'm also glad that I've lived long enough to know what it was like to actually have to go to the library to do research. Does anyone even know how to check out books anymore?? :p

Once on the Pride we saw a fight break out in the Casino got pretty nasty we didn't stay around to see what happen, it involved 3 guys and we thought it had something to do with one of the guys overly intoxicated girl friend.

On are last two Carnival cruises we saw several fights, all involving overly drunk people. Some got physical and some just involved yelling and cussing. But none were pleasant to be around.

This was one of the reasons we decided to try other cruise lines.

I have never seen a fight on a Carnival cruise but have on RC. It was a huge family brawl and security finally came and broke it up after watching it go on for more than 5 minutes even after they witnessed a mother and the grandmother beat a 6 or 7 year old. They were slapping her in the face and cursing at her. I thought I was going to be security and step in and stop the mother and grandmother. The father of the child jumped in and told everyone to stop and shutup. It was quite the scene. Makes you wonder what happens at home if they act that way in public. I was scared for the child.

Comparing 6 cruises on Carnival with 2 cruises on RC and saying there was more fights on Carnival isnt a fair comparison. Im also surprised you didnt see a fight on Sovereign. The passengers on my Sovereign cruise were the roughest ive ever seen. On the 3 Carnival cruises ive been on the number of young people on the cruise was the opposite. There were hardly any children. Of course we picked times we knew kids would be in school. Best acting group of passengers ive seen on a cruise was on our Conquest cruise. Everyone was so freindly and having the time of their lives but we saw alot of nice drunk people...lol!

On Holland they were all too old to fight.

None of you were on the Freedom Transatlantic on April 26th, were you? More than half of the passengers were on Social Security. At 50 something, my husband and I felt young!

There were 3 major fights on this 14 day cruise. One occurred in the theater area waiting for the show to start. Someone was saving seats. Quite a few of them. A couple came up and wanted to sit down. An older man punched one of the women in the face. Her husband pushed the one who punched her down. Staff members called security to calm the altercation. No one was sent for time out to their cabins. Another time, a passenger got upset with a purser and punched him out.

The third and very major altercation was described to us by a waiter who witnessed the thing from a table away from the action. Two 70 sometning men got into a fight over a red headed woman. One of them jumped up and tried to strangle the other one. This is at dinner in the Posh dining room, mind you! The one trying to strangle the other one picked up his steak knife and tried to stab the man he had a headlock on. Instead, he stabbed himself. He cut himself badly enough that he had to have "medical attention" (the waiter's words).

The waiter said that security was called and the man was presumed to be confined to the brig after being seen to by the ship's docter. The crew believed that the passenger would be let off the ship at the next port. Instead, he continued the cruise, sitting at the same table with the other man and the red headed woman!

The waiter was not at all happy. I wonder how their tablemates felt!

So, it is not just the 20 year olds that get in fights!

Doesn't look like there is any law at sea, does there?

Yep, they obviously have never seen the video of the thugs that took over the Princess cruise. What a mess....

and on RCCL you don't get in a fight....you just end up missing...at least that's the story the new bride gave...

Yea we never will hear the real story there. I don't to this day believe he simply fell over board. But the bride has her money so she can move on. Feel sorry for his family though.

Oh yea........THIS WOULD NEVER happen on a different cruise line..

That's exactly what I was thinking. I guess Carnival is the only cruiseline where people drink and get drunk. Huh! Boy where have I been?
