We took cash...and when the cash was gone, our gambling was done!;) Easier for me that way.

I find the sail cards to be WAY TOO EASY to overspend with....when its actual $$ leaving my hands, I feel it much more personally.

We would NEVER use credit to gamble with--we take the cash that we are willing to lose (and losing is a real and probable thing!) and when it's gone--that's it. No more.

Gambling is an entertainment thing--not a way to get rich!

You can get cash on your account (which is your credit card), but you can quickly run up alot more than you planned--bring cash for the casino!

Unless I'm wrong, I think the OP wanted to know if the casino slot machines allow you to put the sign and sail card directly into the slot machine and have your gambling on that machine added to your on board account. No cruise line has that option. You either have to take money from the casino cage, and that money is added to your account, or you bring your own money with you.

We have sailed on several different Carnival ships recently that allow you to put your Sail and Sign Card in the slot machine and pull money from your sail and sign account to gamble with.

They are using the card like a casino card to keep track of how much you play. You earn bonus dollars after earning xxx number of points.

You can also put your card in the machine and then put real cash into the machine. You can save your winnings (or whats left) onto your sail and sign card bank, pull the card out, put the card in another machine, and then pull the money off the card and back into the new machine.

The slot machine also gives you the option to basically get a cash advance from your sail and sign account but they also charge you a 3% fee.

It is real easy to hit the wrong button on the slot machine and pull money from your sail and sign account instead of your gambling bank.

We bring money/travelers checks on the ship for gambling, tip money, private shore excursions. When the money is gone, we quit gambling.

I have seen this on some Carnival ships, such as the Miracle and the Glory. You could insert your card for their players club, and you could also draw cash off of your account for a fee.

Isn't that just a little insane? What I mean by that is, if you're actually using your sign and sail card in a slot machine and getting credits on that machine with your card, what happens if you forget your card in the machine and someone else walks up and starts gambling on YOUR money???? I've been to Las Vegas many times and I cannot tell you how many times I've sat down at a machine and found Player's Club cards forgotten in a machine. This is just too dangerous of a practice,IMHO

I always get my card punched and get one of those stretchy cord things (they give them out free in the casino). Then I can just snap the end to my purse or a belt loop (you can't forget and get too far from the machine when you're bungee-corded to your card LOL)

I think there is some process you need to do to register your card for the Ocean Players Club casinos (basically, all the casino's on the Carnival, Princess, HAL, Costa etc). I briefly looked at it, but I don't use the slots that much. There was something about setting up a player bank with your sign and sail card, and you accessed that bank with the card.

can anyone tell me a little about money used in the casino. do you take cash or just use your ship card which is attatched to your visa?

You can do either. We always bring cash specifically for gambling & small extras. If you choose to use cash you can "keep" your winnings in your player's bank when you leave the machine. You will have already assigned your own PIN # to it for protection. When you sit down at another machine you have the options of 1) putting in more cash or 2) debiting your player's bank or 3) debiting your sign & sail acct...which will cost you the 3% fee.

Be careful which one you choose! Last cruise I hit debit sign & sail acct by accident...and didn't realize it until the next day when reviewing our folio acct. It was not much, just $100 bucks..but I hadn't even realized I had done it. From that point forward I was very careful which button I pressed!

No, your sign and sail card does not go into the machines. You have to put actual money into the slots.

Your S&S can go in the machine... I was just on Carnival and you can insert your S&S card and hit "debit sail and sign" to get credits on the slot machines.
