Coffee in International cafe

Just finished reading two reviews that say there is a charge for brewed coffee at the international cafe-tell me it isn't so?

I understand you can purchase a coffee card but thought this was for specialty coffee's like latte's. First time cruiser and trying to get my head wrapped around so many extra charges. Several comments that the free coffee is awful-so people where opting for the brewed. (Ruby in January.)

buy the coffee card. It's good for 15 free specialty coffees/teas and unlimited free brewed coffee. It's well worth it. You would also have to pay for coffee in the bars and casino but can flash the card for free coffee there too. As long as there's one punch left, you can take it on the next cruise for free brewed coffee.

In the International Cafe:

Brewed coffee is $1.00/cup, most specialty coffees are $3.00, espresso $2.50.

$25 (+ gratuity) buys you a coffee card with fifteen punch outs for specialty coffees, and unlimited brewed coffee at the Cafe and other lounges that have brewed coffee. You can also use it in the dining rooms for specialty coffees. The server is directed to take two punch outs for double shot orders, some do, some don't.

Since the coffee card is for a discrete quantity it's not time limited. If there are punchouts remaining at the end of the cruise the card can carry over to the next cruise.

Recently disembarked Sea Princess. No "International Cafe" on Sea, but same coffee card policies apply at the atrium bar and any other lounges w/brewed coffee..

We believe the majority would admit that the regular coffee aboard all the ships is more than just wanting. Seems to us that it is even more unpalatable than years ago. Is it the incentive to "sell" good coffee why the regular "free" product is diminishing in taste?

So you say, what's a buck or two for a good cup of coffee. Well we agree. But where can the early risers get such a cup in the wee hours of the morning? We suppose bringing your own instant coffee (shudder) could still be an improvement. It was not surprising that we saw three separate passengers come to the Lido first thing in the morning carrying a coffee pot and using the hot water dispenser to create a pot of coffee to take back to their cabins. If the lines are to sell the superior product then they should arrange to sell it at the appropriate hours like first thing in the morning.

I suggest trying the coffee yourself and forming your own opinion.

Someone told me that before my first princess cruise.. and the free stuff I just could not drink. I only get at least one in the morning-- maybe a 2nd cup later-- for me to buy a coffee card just wasnt worth it.

Coffee is a to go container was 1.00 - there was a bar in the lobby that was always brewing coffee.

This may sound like sacrilege but maybe they should put one of those coin operated fresh brew machines in the Lido. That way one can have a fresh coffee anytime of the day or night. And if that is a success, remember the Automat?

I'll answer this based on my last cruise on Dawn Princess November of 06.......ya it was a while ago, you want better data, look me up in a couple of weeks.

I bought a coffee card.....at 7 every morning the atrium bar would open and I would get a latte to go, one punch (oh, the card was 25 plus 15%) and 15 punches.

One morning I asked for a regular brewed coffee and was told it was also one punch and "you may as well order the latte." which I did.

I'm a coffee snob, grind my own etc etc. The first cruise we ever went on I actually took a 2 cup coffee maker. That was my first and last with that thing. Ya, the coffee isn't that great but like serene56 wrote, try it yourself.

I never saw a charge for tea.

There is Camomile teabags in the buffet area. There are at the ends of the buffet area where the coffee, ice tea, hot water dispensers are located. There is usually a wooden box with several varieties of teabags available. The teabags are there 24 hours a day.

Where do you purchase coffee on the Caribbean Princess? I can't find an International Cafe.

Sorry I can't be more help and tell you the name and location of the "speciality" coffee area on Caribbean. However, coffee is brewed at any of the bars.....you never know, someone may want an Irish Coffee?

My sister and I had coffee delivered by room service every morning to drink on our balcony. We are both coffee drinkers. She drinks at least a pot and sometimes 2 every day. We found the coffee was ok. Had been told about how bad it is, but we were able to drink it and didn't mind it one bit. We didn't buy the coffee card and got along just fine! So get that 1st cup and make your own decision.

Fred, on our last couple of cruises, the wooden box has been gone, no where to be found. They had Lipton and another type of tea, and that was it. Not sure if it was just the ships we happened to be sailing on, or if that has changed fleet wide. I didn't ask for any other type, just settled, but the display of assorted teas was definitely not there at the buffet as it used to be.

I never drink coffee at the buffet (yuck) so I stick to tea, it is why I definitely noticed as I usual switch types of tea depending on the time of day.

The specialty teas are no longer displayed. I figure there was too much loss by passengers taking it home. They still have it, but you have to ask for it. On the Crown they hide it behind their little curtain on the coffee carts. There is a sizable assortment of herbals and english teas, including with and w/o caffeine.

Amazing how much a non tea drinker observes. :D
