J-Hawk Posted October 18, 2008 #1 Share Posted October 18, 2008 This was recommended on another post. We had breakfast in the MDR a couple years ago, and there wasn't much on the menu. I then heard that some new items were added and some items changed daily. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks!
hazmatt Posted October 18, 2008 #2 Share Posted October 18, 2008 I prefer the MDR for breakfast. The food is always fresher, and the menu items did change day to day. If you ask, the waiter will even have them make something that isn't on the menu. They did this for my son on a couple of occasions.
Rare NorbertsNiece Posted October 18, 2008 #3 Share Posted October 18, 2008 We went to the MDR for breakfast most mornings on Independence. Hot menu was very full and had a lot of choice. Don't recall items changing during the course of the cruise. Very full self service buffet there too.
J-Hawk Posted October 18, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted October 18, 2008 Did the buffet have the same offerings as the Windjammer?
Rare silentbob007 Posted October 18, 2008 #5 Share Posted October 18, 2008 Did the buffet have the same offerings as the Windjammer? FYI, those two are the same. The buffet has some items that the dining room has and vice versa.
T&Tmom Posted October 18, 2008 #6 Share Posted October 18, 2008 Can you wear shorts to breakfast in the MDR? And at lunch?
I'm on holiday Posted October 18, 2008 #7 Share Posted October 18, 2008 Can you wear shorts to breakfast in the MDR? And at lunch? Yes, you can wear shorts for both breakfast and lunch. They do ask that you kindly cover up if you are wearing your swimsuit.
cb at sea Posted October 18, 2008 #8 Share Posted October 18, 2008 what do you mean, they didn't have much on the menu? They serve eggs--any way you want them, omelets, eggs benedict. Pancakes, potatoes, breakfast meats, french toast, fruits, cereals, (hot and cold) yogurts, juices, dairy..... I mean, what more is there??? We just ate in there once for breakfast on our first cruise with RCCI and all that I remember was about three choices for hot breakfast and cold cereals. I don't remember eggs benedict or omelets to order or fresh fruit or any of that. I will have to give it another try on this cruise.
cruisePRN Posted October 19, 2008 #10 Share Posted October 19, 2008 I think the breakfast menu is extensive. It does not change every day but how can it when it has everything from Kippers to scrambled eggs and then some.
J-Hawk Posted October 19, 2008 Author #11 Share Posted October 19, 2008 I thought that I heard that they now had a special omelet or frittata that changed daily. Along the lines of artichoke, sundried tomatoes and goat cheese, for instance.

waterbugohio Posted October 19, 2008 #13 Share Posted October 19, 2008 How long do we need to allow if we do the dining room for breakfast?? Would like to do this a couple of mornings as "buffet" breakfast gets old, but we have several excursions early in the morning and don't have an hour to spend eating. Can we get in and out in a rush??
megr1125 Posted October 19, 2008 #14 Share Posted October 19, 2008 it's prety quick.....but instead of rushing, save the MDR for sea days and do WJ on port days early.... everything will be crowded though since people want to get off thie ship. hazmatt Posted October 19, 2008 #15 Share Posted October 19, 2008 In addition to the regular items they usually had a special for the day like chocolate chip pancakes and the frittata. The omelette changed every day also but you could usually get whatever omelette you wanted. Service usually took a while so we did room service breakfast when we needed to get up early. waterbugohio Posted October 19, 2008 #16 Share Posted October 19, 2008 we only have one sea day. Five ports with excursions on three of them. The other two days we would like to hit the beach early and then come back to the ship early. Trying to figure out the fastest way to do breakfast. Is room service pretty on time?? Can you order a hot breakfast?? This would save some time in the morning. We want to get going early, but I am not a morning person!!

hazmatt Posted October 19, 2008 #18 Share Posted October 19, 2008 They have door tags for room service that you hang out the night before. You put what time you want it delivered and they are pretty accurate about delivery, they even call 15 minutes before delivery so it's a great alarm clock.
