Cruising89143 Posted November 16, 2004 #1 Share Posted November 16, 2004 Well fresh on the heels of Royal Caribbean naming their new ship "Freedom of the Seas", along comes Carnival with it's newest named ship. From Carnival Cruises Lines: CARNIVAL CRUISE LINES' NEW 110,000-TON SUPERLINER TO BE NAMED CARNIVAL FREEDOM New 2,974-Passenger 'Fun Ship' Scheduled To Enter Service in Spring 2007 MIAMI (November 16, 2004) - Carnival Freedom is the name selected by Carnival Cruise Lines for its new 110,000-ton cruise ship scheduled to enter service in spring 2007. To be built at a cost of $500 million at the Fincantieri shipyard in Sestri, Italy, the new 2,974-passenger "Fun Ship" will be the fifth in Carnival's highly successful Conquest-class, which also includes Carnival Conquest and Carnival Glory, currently in service, and Carnival Valor and Carnival Liberty, set to debut Dec. 15, 2004, and July 20, 2005, respectively. The itinerary for the Carnival Freedom will be announced at a later date. The new Carnival Freedom will encompass 13 passenger decks housing 22 lounges and bars, a 13,300-square-foot health club, a 2,400-square-foot children's play room, a 4,200-square-foot teen club/game room, four swimming pools, a 214-foot-long water slide, and four restaurants, including an upscale reservations-only supper club. Other features will include a nine-deck-high atrium, a full gambling casino, a duty-free shopping mall, and a comprehensive golf program. Of the ship's 1,487 staterooms, 60 percent will offer either an ocean view or a balcony. "Among the largest passenger vessels at sea, Carnival Freedom will embody 'Today's Carnival,' with a huge array of on-board features and facilities for guests to enjoy. It will certainly be a fantastic addition to the 'Fun Ship' fleet," said Bob Dickinson, Carnival president and CEO. Carnival Cruise Lines, a unit of Carnival Corporation & plc (NYSE/LSE: CCL; NYSE: CUK), is the world's largest and most popular cruise line with a fleet of 19 "Fun Ships" operating three- to 16-day voyages to The Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexican Riviera, Alaska, Hawaii, Panama Canal, Canada, New England and Europe. Cruising89143 Posted November 16, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted November 16, 2004 Yea, and paid 100k to a ad co. for the name. Well Carnival got ripped off IMHO. I did not like "Freedom of the Seas" and I do not like this one. Can't someone come up with something original? I would think after RCI beat them to the punch that Carnival might have went back to the drawing board.

Rare eroller Posted November 16, 2004 #8 Share Posted November 16, 2004 It's getting ridiculous! CARNIVAL LIBERTY, FREEDOM OF THE SEAS, CARNIVAL FREEDOM, and of course next will be LIBERTY OF THE SEAS. We also have "homeland cruising" and PRIDE OF AMERICA with NCL and who knows what will be next. Can't they think up anything more original? I find it almost insulting and definitely sickening. While I'm proud to be an American, I am frankly sick of having this patriotism shoved down my throat .... especially when it's a blatant attempt to capitalize on it. Except for PRIDE OF AMERICA, all these ships are registered in foreign countries as are their operators. They don't pay US taxes and have absolutely nothing to do with liberty and freedom. I also think it was a bit tacky of Carnival to announce essentially the same ship name only days after RCI announced theirs. With all the marketing people employed at these cruise lines you think they could do better. Ernie

RCI does claim that the Freesom was used to describe the space onboard... I do not buy it though. NCL just named their latest group fo ships after ships in the Carnival and RCI fleets. How hard its it to come up with a name. Personally, I think an more accurate name for this class ship is the Carnival Sardine Can.

bluelghttr Posted November 17, 2004 #12 Share Posted November 17, 2004 Mommy You may be on to something here, i can see the press release Carnival corp, has teamed up with popular caribbean dining/drinking establishment Senior frogs to launch the senior carnival frogs ship,(AKA RCCL/ johnny rockets) no more worring about having to make it back to the ship in cuzumel. enjoy a constant state of drunken bliss, with this unique combination. Of course the bad news is that there will be no railings on this ship, Only 12 foot high solid walls, as carnival can't take the chance of somebody falling overboard. (liability issues) Boy could carnival earn a "party ship" reputation with this one. Most popular spring break ship in the world. learning all the time. sgriff17 Posted November 17, 2004 #13 Share Posted November 17, 2004 Since ships are referred to as a "she", they should come up with some women's names. Like "Belinda", or "Julie"...maybe even "Judy", perhaps. I paid got a GREAT DEAL to be on Julie last week. Judy was REALLY BUMPY... Great for office conversations. Ericknow32 Posted November 20, 2004 #14 Share Posted November 20, 2004 I’m sorry but I agree with cruisingator2. Both the names Freedom of the Seas and Carnival Freedom are bad. I think that both cruise lines are trying to exploit the current condition of this country. They are trying to give their ships some sentimental name that will attract customers. NOT COOL. I still think Carnival ripped of the name.
