Fazzdaan Posted March 24, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 24, 2009 From John Heald's Blog. "I am so glad you enjoyed the supper club on the Carnival Glory. The $30 tip does not include service which is left entirely up to the guest’s discretion. So, if you could please post on the thread thingy that the $30 charge does not include the tip I would be most grateful. This is something we should maybe post on the website and I will look into this now."

jessemon Posted March 24, 2009 #4 Share Posted March 24, 2009 This is per the reservation site and booking..... http://www.bookccl.com/irman/bookccl/shipboard_knowledge/SupperClub.htm Note the second paragraph. According to this it does....Maybe this should be forwarded to John. If they have changed this policy then they should let people know. That being said...I always tip extra there anyways. Perhaps he means they aren't paid extra for working the supper club as opposed to regular service? Regardless, he's looking out for his employees which is commendable. :) I can't say that I have ever tipped extra at the supper clubs.......:o But take it easy on me for that, because we've never been to any YET. :p We keep planning to but our boys always insist on eating in the dinning room. They've even went to the dinning room by themselves before....perhaps we should send them to the supper club on Legend?

Believe me, they are compensated for that in one way or another...... CWcruisers Posted March 24, 2009 #7 Share Posted March 24, 2009 O.K. Jessemon, that said, should we tip over and above or not. According to what you previously posted, the answer would be no, but I am confused.
jessemon Posted March 24, 2009 #8 Share Posted March 24, 2009 O.K. Jessemon, that said, should we tip over and above or not. According to what you previously posted, the answer would be no, but I am confused.:confused:As I said in my first post..."I" always tip extra. The service there is wonderful. I leave an extra $10. This has been a debate here on the boards since supper clubs started. The link I posted says they in fact are tip out of the $30 fee.Something is not quite right here. Either the OP has posted what JH said incorrectly. Or John is incorrect. Or things have been changed where the waiter is not paid that way anymore therefor JH would be correct. If so than the link I posted where you make your reservation should be corrected.... OK...I am now confused...LOL....

irishgirl Posted March 24, 2009 #10 Share Posted March 24, 2009 Since the supper clubs first started, the cost has included the gratuity. It used to be printed in the brochure as being included. I even e-mailed Carnival last year and they said it included the gratuity. If they have changed their policy, it needs to be published, not just passed on word of mouth by an employee. That being said, I stopped going to the supper clubs years ago because I just didn't feel it was worth the extra. The last time I went on the Conquest, the meal was just so-so, nothing great. mjl1960 Posted March 24, 2009 #13 Share Posted March 24, 2009 Ok...here is my stupid question, since this is my first cruise I am allowed a few - how do you tip them? With cash or on your S&S card? If you use your S&S card are you given the opportunity at dinner, or do you have to go to the pursers desk to do it? I am really looking forward to the supper club...haven't heard a single negative comment about it, which is unusual for this site.
*Mach* Posted March 24, 2009 #14 Share Posted March 24, 2009 I've emailed John on this subject. Since I've been sailing ships with supper clubs I've been under the assumption that the tip IS included. It's stated so on the Carnival web site, as Jessemon pointed out. I expect that we'll hear from John on this today and I'll post the answer here. :)

You'll have a chance to add a gratuity at the end of your dining experience. You'll be presented with a bill for the $30/pp plus whatever cocktails you've enjoyed. :)
MrPete Posted March 24, 2009 #17 Share Posted March 24, 2009 Everything I have read in print under the Carnival moniker ALWAYS said the tip is included in the service charge. The service charge has increased over the years. Went to $30 in 2005.

jetwet1 Posted March 24, 2009 #21 Share Posted March 24, 2009 Who normally leaves a $30 tip per person in a restaurant?? That's plenty! It depends on the restaurant and the service, there have been plenty of times I have tipped more than this, but trust me the service was beyond good. FabFourLover Posted March 24, 2009 #23 Share Posted March 24, 2009 I have been on one Carnival cruise and am going on another in November. We didn't get a chance to go to the supper club last time but I am definetly going this time. I have never understood the problem some people have about the extra $30 fee. I mean, DH and I went out for dinner the other night for my birthday at a local restaurant which I would call semi-nice. A couple of notches above let's say The Outback but definetly NOT want I saw when I looked through the window of Nick and Nora's last July. DH and I ordered appitizers, salads, dinner and had 4 drinks between us and the bill came out to $80 with the tip. So if N&N's is $60 and the service is exceptional (as I have heard from people it is) so I leave an extra 20% tip I don't see how that's a problem. Especially since everyone I spoke to on Miracle in July who went did nothing but rave. If that extra $12 is a thorn just don't leave it and pay just the $30/head. I guess it's just me. I just don't get it. We're spending thousands for a trip/airfair/excursions/booze/casino but worry about an extra $12 tip???? Oh well, to each his own! Just remember you've ALREADY "PAID" for your dinner in the MDR, and tipped on that as well. NO ONE will turn your money away. It's their job to get as much of it out of your wallet, and into their hands. They get to practice week after week, and know what works.
