Inside for us.....price points are great, but the pitch black dark helps us sleep and sleep and sleep. My wife is the greatest person in the world.....when she is well rested. Not enough sleep? She can go from zero to cranky in 3.4 seconds! It has to be the sleep.....I can't imagine my sparkling personality would have any negative affect on her disposition:rolleyes:

I was fine with an inside cabin, but when I was walking down the corridors on that first cruise and saw how nice and large the windows are for the oceanviews, I decided I needed to have that view. So, we've been in OV ever since. Our upcoming cruise will be our first balcony (with the exception of a mini-suite on a 1-nighter) - a splurge for my birthday - and I hope I don't become spoiled. But the bottom line is that if the only way I could afford to cruise was in the cheapest inside, I'd be happy as a clam just to be onboard. As beautiful as the fancy suites look and nice as the perks are, butler service doesn't appeal to us and I cannot imagine spending that much more since we don't spend a lot of time in the cabin. Maybe I'll feel differently when I become a millionaire. BTW, I was not impressed by the mini-suite for our 1-nighter so our BA will be an interesting experiment for us.

It depends where we're going and/or with who. If it's a port intensive cruise or it's not going to be warm out we'll get an outside window cabin. Lots of sea days we'll get at least a balcony. Lots of friends travelling with us we'll get a suite for parties. Never an inside room again. Once was enough.

my vote is for whatever i can afford at the time. DW and i try to save for a balcony to secure money for an inside. then we just hope that we hit the right promo. we mourn the loss of the compass rewards program.

one day we shall be upsold to a penthouse/suite/CV/GV...who knows. for now...i'd rather just be on the ship! beers all taste the same whether you're inside or GV!

I always like a balcony.... I know a lot of people say you dont need a nicer room cuz you dont spend too much time in the room... I actually do like to lounge in the room a lot and I like to have a balcony if possible so we can sit out and relax... we arent really active always doing a million things, I like to just chill out... we watch movies in the cabin etc.. but also we live in Miami so we have the luxury of not having to pay to fly etc and not missing extra travel days at work and the flexibility to shop for the best deals... so a lot of times we can just look for the cheapest deal and then we can pay the same amount for a balcony as we would for an inside if we went at a different time...

On our honeymoon we booked a smallest suite and got up sold to an owners suite a few weeks pre cruise, that was AMAZING i would love to travel that way every time LOL. We saved about 60% but it was still a major splurge.

WHile I prefer and selected Penthouse I sometimes don't have that option. depending on the ship, usually Balcony is the highest level of HC cabin that is available on a ship often not even that.

If a suite has certain characteristics I can still use it, if I change the equipment I bring with me.

But a Balcony is essential, I spend a great deal of time on the balcony or in my Suite/cabin. A promenade deck is also important to me. I cruise to look at the ocean not to stay in a hotel/casino that happens to be at sea.

Our first cruise we signed up for an inside (cheapest). Then we were called by the upsell fairy and offered an obstructed view OV for $100 more per person. We splurged, and loved it (until we realized one of the tender ships to be used for the tender port was the one right outside our window. Nothing like the noise of the winch and guys walking around your window to wake you up earlier than you had planned . . .)

Anyway, now we always get OV. If there's a reduction of price for a balcony, we might pray for the upsell fairy to call or take the situation into our own hands, but it's not a requirement. Although, it might mean my partner could just smoke on the balcony instead of having to do down to the smoking outside deck every hour. Wait, can you smoke on balconies?

our first cusie was in a balcony cabin for just dh and myself. The next cruise we took our ds and dd and we sailed in a mini-suite and I thought that was pretty terrific. The next one we had book a mini suite but rceived an upsell to an AB suite and that has spoiled it for us. We have sailed in suites ever since - we just wait until we get a really good deal so that we are able to do it.

Only cruised once but have since signed up for #2 and we're looking for #3 already

We cruised inside. We are active people by nature - meaning we'd rather be out and doing something than relaxing in our cabin (I don't quite understand how to "relax" because I get restless after doing "nothing" for 30 minutes). So for us, whether or not there was daylight or a view or a balcony to relax on was not really a consideration.

I'm cruising to Alaska this fall and thought about the balcony since a good portion of that cruise is for scenic viewing - but figured I'd be out on deck in order to experience a broader range of views anyway. Admittedly the price was also a consideration since there was more of a difference between inside & balcony on this particular cruise than the previous one.

Cruise #3 will be to the Caribbean and as such scenic viewing is not a priority, so inside it will be :)

First cruise 11 nights in a balcony drove to the port

2nd cruise 7 nights alaska inside due to airfare and expensive excursions

3rd cruise 2 night Bahamas Sky Suite flew in

4th cruise 2 night Bahamas Concierge Class flew in, 3 in the cabin

5th cruise 7 nights ocean view flew in

6th cruise 7 nights ocean view drove to port

7th cruise 7 nights Alaska flew on frequent flyer miles, expensive excursions

8th cruise 7 nights sideways inside flew in

9th, upcoming cruise 7 nights stern balcony with 3 people in the cabin.

I'm happy anywhere . If I have a balcony, I use it! Although I'd love to have a balcony in Alaska, the expense is great, so I'm happy with an inside.

I think the same. We don't really give that much importance to cabins as all that. As long as it's clean and confortable and specially not ugly, ugly places really make me feel miserable. So when I choose a ship, I first look at itineraries, prices, if the boat has nice pools for my kid, if the cruiseline has attention to kids, and if the rooms are nice. If the rooms are ugly, the company can be great and have all the qualities in the world but I can't imagine myself inside the cabin.

I don't mind to spend some more on a balcony but for the extra 1000 euros I'm taking a trip to Paris this month, going to Eurodisney and staying in a 4 star hotel in the St.Germain neighbourhood. I'd much rather do that than have a balcony. Also, I do the cruise for the trip itself so I don't really spend that much time in the cabin. I like to see people, be around the ship and specially visit the ports. :)

enjoy the inside cabins, but when the price is the same for

and ocean view and inside i take the ocean view.

That's my preference, too. I enjoy traveling as often as possible, so I always go for quantity intead of quality! :D

I did a few cruises on travel industry specials and you jus got the leftovers...usually the most aft inside cabin, and once an outside.

Then I had a balcony on the Diamond Princess in December...and now I have an aft mini booked for January on th Jade. I hope my tastes are not becoming more expensive ;).

Mind you, cruising from Australia as i usually do, and going to the South Pacific Islands is not very scenic cruising as it takes 2 sea days to get anywhere and 2 days to get back so I'm happy with an inside cabin there...nothing much to see anyway and I don't always get off the ship at the ports because I've seen them all before.

But, if I am going to fly for 28 hours to get to Europe, then, darn it, I'm going to have a mini-suite when I get there... :)

We've always been happy with balconies until our upsell to an AB penthouse last year on the Jewel. We were back in a balcony last week on the Pearl and it seemed small. I think we will stick with balconies for 7 day Caribbean type cruises, but for longer more special trips will opt for a suite. I just emailed the TA a while ago to get the price for switching our balcony on the Jade to a suite.

Love the suite life!

But outside with window is the bare minimum for us. Don't think I could do an inside...if that was all I could afford, I would probably just stay home and keep saving up!

I prefer anything with a balcony and a suite with a balcony is even SWEETER! Unless I win the lottery or something would never go for the very top cabin. :);)

Well hubby never could understand why we should take a cruise I booked a cruise at least 20 years ago on RCCL in an inside cabin and told him if he didn't want to go I could find someon else to go with me. He did go and our next cruise was an oceanview on RCCL.

Well we got a great price for a balcony on Legend of the Seas for the inaugural cruise and since then it balcony or better.

We have cruised on NCL and have had a BA aft on the Dawn and loved it ; we are anticipating our next cruise on the NCL Spirit in an AD suite.

Needless to say hubby doesn't want to anything but cruise.

Have stayed in inside (4x), outside (3x), balcony (1x), and soon to be suite (1x).

I voted for whatever I can afford at the time. I would not pass up the opportunity to cruise because of a certain category of room. I try not to get stuck in a "have to" situation. Just going on a cruise is enough for me. Am I thrilled to have a suite this time? You betcha. Was it a requirement? No way.

We love balcony's and the peace they can give you when the pool area is nuts. We were upsold to an AB on the Dawn and they had to pry us out of the room! did a mini-suite to Panama Canal and had loads of room, but just booked a caribbean cruise for Feb and splurged on an AE on the Dawn. First time aft. We have done OV on a couple of small old ships that didn't have balconys and spent 1 nite in an inside - get me outta here!!! I guess I'm a little claustrophibic! I think most cruise lines get that balconys are here to stay. It's so nice to leave the door open at nite and enjoy the fresh air.:)
