Don't worry about the pig he rarely gets up unless he needs to walk down to the water to cool off. He's very docile.
IslandToIsland Posted May 26, 2009 #278 Share Posted May 26, 2009 (edited) I really liked Cockleshell. Not the prettiest beach in the world, but not bad either. The Reggae Beach Bar was excellent. I had some excellent shrimp and my DG had the Lobster. The animals made it interesting. I did snorkel. There is seagrass everywhere but I did find several starfish. If you snorkle around the dock there are some nice fish to see. Nice snorkeling pics. I just started snorkeling on my last cruise in Feb, so seeing anything in the water is a plus for me. I would love to see an actual starfish! I heard that the ride there is amazing with all the beautiful scenery. I am leaning more towards Cockleshell now. Thanks for your input. :) Beentrav, was that a disposable underwater camera???We are planning Cockleshell Beach when we go in July. Not sure about that pig though. It doesn't look like you have to worry much. I don't think I have seen a pic yet where he is up and about. He looks like he's always relaxing. MemphisDH Posted May 27, 2009 #279 Share Posted May 27, 2009 Not a disposable. Olympus 1050SW underwater camera. Only $159 on Amazon. Did you have any trouble taking your camera in salt water. I have the 790SW which crapped out in the middle of a snorkling tour in Mex last year. Evidently you have to bath them after salt water'
Grand Kman Posted May 27, 2009 #280 Share Posted May 27, 2009 I love snorkeling and this cruise is full of great snorkle opportunities. Jalousie Beach in St Lucia, Barbados swimming with Sea Turtles, St John, and Champagne Reef in Dominica. Just purchased the Olympus 850 SW a couple of weeks ago. So...I had to try it out. Just took some great shots of fish in our aquarium! Dealer warned me to "give it a bath" in freshwater after leaving saltwater. Said the salt would start setting up and cause problems if you didn't. Can't wait to use it somewhere besides my aquarium now!:D
kelz66 Posted May 27, 2009 #281 Share Posted May 27, 2009 Does the Victory have priority disembarkation in San Juan? Do they hand out the Navy blue #1 luggage tags like other ships? Isn't that something done fleet wide?
NCTribeFan Posted May 27, 2009 #282 Share Posted May 27, 2009 Just home last night from our extra couple of days in San Juan. Hope to upload my photos tonight (in between doing loads of laundry), and will start writing my review (I write it in Word and then post it in the review section and here, with photos added). Cabin 7205 was interesting. Not as large as I expected and not the layout I'd seen of a similar cabin. Back at work today, so hope to get some of these things done in the next couple of days. I really didn't explore the entire ship. As expected, we were very tired every day, having done an island tour at each port. Didn't go to any shows or participate in any activities other than eating and a little time in the casino. I'll post port pics in my review thread or on the POC boards. Will post some ship photos here.

NCTribeFan Posted May 27, 2009 #285 Share Posted May 27, 2009 It was a great cruise. But it was very tiring. And here I sit, with no work to do, yet I can't go home without taking vacation time. :( Having sailed Glory last May, I didn't have any problems finding my way around. I thought the ship was lovely. I really liked the color scheme (other than the turquoise w/ whales carpeting in the elevator area/stairwells). Some lines at the buffet, but other times, it was just walk right up. Dining room food was overall very good, with just a couple of exceptions for not-so-good. Service was excrutiatingly slow the first couple of nights (2+ hours), but picked up as the week went on. Service was excellent; staff & crew were pleasant; didn't care for what little I saw/heard of Wee Jimmy; not much luck in the casino. NOTE TO PEOPLE VISITING THE "SECRET" DECKS: Please stop letting the doors slam behind you! I was awakened very early EVERY morning by people doing this. There are double doors. All you have to do is close the first door, then open the second. When you open the 2nd before the 1st has closed, you create the wind tunnel. Of course, people seem to think they must travel in packs, so if there is more than 1 or 2 people, they'll open both doors and HEAVEN FORBID they actually hold the door to stop it from slamming. Those in nearby cabins will appeciate your consideration! It was 244 steps from our forward cabin to the aft stairwell! It was 148 steps up the stairwell, not counting the landings, from Deck 0 to Deck 7! I only gained back 4 of the 12 pounds I lost prior to cruising, thanks to taking those stairs almost every single time, and all the walking during the excursions. Yes, I need a vacation! I'm exhausted! :D The good thing is I have my 8-day Miracle with 4 sea days and an aft balcony to look forward to. I'll do my relaxing on that one. As far as the port intensive cruise goes-In hindsight is there anything you would have done differently as far as how many excursions you did, what you did in each port, how many hours the excursions were, etc? NCTribeFan Posted May 27, 2009 #289 Share Posted May 27, 2009 Oh, that wasn't my review. That will be very, very long (when I get around to writing it). ;) No, I really don't think I'd do anything differently. I wanted to do more walking around OSJ on Sunday before we boarded (flew down Sat and arrived around noon). I knew I'd be too tired once we returned. I intentionally booked excursions that were mainly island-tour types. With all new (except St Thomas) ports for us, I really wanted to get a feel for the history and the island, and that sort of excursion is really good for that. All included a beach stop except Dominica, so we got our beach time in, which was nice & relaxing. Although the 2 post-cruise days in San Juan were to rest, we still did some walking around. In hindsight, with Monday being a holiday, I probably could've come home Sunday and got more rest on Monday than I actually did in San Juan for 2 days. But I love San Juan and loved being there. The excursions were pretty much all day. No danger of missing the ship, either. The tour operators are very aware of the time and traffic and are careful to get you back in plenty of time. I'll post a link to my review thread when I get it written and will have lots of details of the excursions. I need a nap! :p
mainelymaniacs Posted May 27, 2009 #290 Share Posted May 27, 2009 I want to thank all of you for all the information/pics/details. We are currently booked on Oasis with my in-laws but are thinking of looking for something different. The price is just silly!!!! I am the one who does all the research and what not. My in-laws have been pretty royal-loyal, but if anything can change their minds I think this cruise might just do it. I would love to get us two or three aft cabins, but have a question I haven't seen answered yet. On the aft decks, can the deck above you look down onto yours? If I want to sunbathe with nothing on, will I be disturbed? I really have no wish to expose (pun intended) small children or anyone else to my nudist ways. Same question for those beautiful wrap rooms at the corner? Thanks all, Lisa

NCTribeFan Posted May 29, 2009 #295 Share Posted May 29, 2009 I still haven't started writing up my review. In fact, I still haven't finished unpacking. And yet I have to sit at my desk with no work to do. Sigh. I have uploaded my photos and labeled most of them. Forgot to bring the capers in to work to scan. Will try to remember to do that Monday and add to my Webshots album. If anyone's interested, here's the link to my Webshots page. I'll post individual pics within my review. Eventually! I promise to work on it tonight and get it posted tomorrow! http://travel.webshots.com/album/572487533NXBvIj Daughter's abbreviated photo album (camera died in Barbados). http://travel.webshots.com/album/572486942EzzAAe

NCTribeFan Posted May 31, 2009 #299 Share Posted May 31, 2009 I apologize for not having written my review. I had actually started it at work on Friday. And then I was fired. :( What a difference a week makes, eh? At this time last Sunday, we were still on board, tired but looking forward to two restful days in San Juan. Now I'm depressed and totally stressed out. This cruise was to celebrate DD's birthday and college graduation, and the fact that I'd no longer have to pay tuition. Because of those college expenses, I have virtually no savings, and I just dropped a pretty big chunk of money (for me, at least) on all those excursions. Sigh.
