I personally think these entertainment venues will be just another mechanism for the F3 style to nickel and dime you...

Theres deffinatly going to be a surcharge for the dinner and circus, and probably one for tickets in the tiny theater

ALL cruise lines nickel and dime you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is also noted there is a $15.00 surcharge to go to the dinner and circus as you call it. I don't think a 600 seat theater is tiny. But thanks for your response

O K this has interested me finally in the Epic also. I am going to have to rearrange my priorities! We want to do a RT Barcelona cruise in a couple of years and maybe we can squeeze in the Epic in '10. Pearl to Alaska this September. I need to rack up that vacation time I guess.

I like to cruise to relax, read, unwind and recharge. I am hoping that there will be places on this ship to find quiet. If not, maybe that is another cruise entirely!

My husband and I saw the Blue Man Group in Vegas...and walked out after 20 minutes or so.

According to the poll I seem to be in the minority..but then again...I'm not planning on sailing on the Epic anyway.

I hope whoever does cruise with them...has a great time. I am looking forward to reading the reviews.

The NCL Gem 2011!

We might be the minority, but my wife and I saw the Blue Man Group in New York and we were lucky the seats were a gift to us from someone who didn't want to go (probably because they knew how it was). We didn't find it entertaining at all.

But to all who want to see it, I hope you have a wonderful wonderful time.

I love Blue Man Group. I've seen them a couple times in Vegas and once in New York. I think their act is innovative, thought-provoking and fun.

Cirque shows are great. Over the years, I have seen 7 or 8 of their shows, including most of the ones in Vegas as well as a couple of their traveling shows and the permanent one in Orlando.

I would love to see either or both of these acts on a cruise ship.

LOL... *shaking head*

I cruise for simple reasons:

The ocean

The crew

The ocean ;)

I cruise because I love being on a ship, being waited on hand and foot by a fabulous, friendly crew. The food is a nice added touch (can't live without it, unfortunately ;)) and the shows are nice as well. All the extra crap they add to the ships doesn't make me more inclined to book them...which is probably one of the reasons I steer away from Royal (well, that and their over-inflated pricing)...I don't need an ice show (in fact th eone time I sailed RCCL, I didn't even see the ice show) and I really have no desire to see BMG.

Just give me a nice clean ship with some good activities during the day and night and a couple nice ports and that's all I need.

All these 'things' they put on ships now, draw people to a cruise for the wrong reasons. A person who cruises should love to cruise.

I think all this other stuff really just gets in the way. I am a dying breed however. It seems people need top notch entertainment/stimulation 24/7 any more.

Give me good Ol' Fountains any day...you can keep BMG. ;)

I don't think it's anybody's place to imply that we all have to live by one standard for what makes crusing the right vacation. Sorry but it sounds way too much like the "back in my day, we would have never... and liked it." stuff I hear from my aging father lol.

We love cruising as a family for the time together, the time on the ocean and time in ports. But we also like to have a range of options on board - neither I nor my 10 y.o. son are really the "sit and stare at the ocean for hours on end" kinds of people. (My wife and daugher are very happy with a view of the ocean, a chaise and a good book.)

We opted for the Epic over our original plans to sail Hawaii in part b/c of the unique options on board. For grins, I went to the BMG New York website and priced out a show package: 2 nights in a hotel + tickes for three of us at one show + one dinner package and it was $1200! Tickets alone were over $100 a seat. So, I am thrilled that instead of making a trip up to NY to see BMG, we can do it as part of an all-around get-away.

As a family we have limited cruise experience that's for certain. Our first two cruises were w/ Disney. Third on NCL Pearl to Alaska, which we chose for both the destination and the ship. The Epic cruise will be our fourth, so we're still happy to cruise for a number of reasons. The beauty of the industry as I see it is that there are cruise options for nearly every budget and desire. Personally, if I were going for just the ocean and crew, I'd not be going on mass-market cruise lines anyway, but opt for a smaller square mast sailing vessel.

Hubby and I went to see Blue Man Group and Cirque Du Soleil when their tours stopped in our city. We loved both of them. We'd have no hesitation seeing either of these acts again.

But...

I wouldn't book a cruise on Epic just because one or both will be appearing on the ship.

Now...

if they happened to be appearing on a cruise ship we wanted to cruise on with an itinerary we liked ;).

BMG and the circus thingy sound interesting BUT is it true that there is no main dinning room? I enjoyed eating dinner in the main dinning room on my cruises (mmmmm lobster tail, mmmm chocolate melting cake).

If I am not mistaken their website lists "The Manhattan Room" and "Taste" as their main dining rooms. I am sure as with everything else on this ship they will have a different menu than the rest of the fleet.

Well, my answer was 'something else that I'll post'... or whatever that one said... so here I am. I've never really thought about seeing BMG, but I'll definitely check it out while we're on board. Why not? Might like it, might not, but it's definitely a phenomenon, so since the opportunity is going to present itself, I do believe it's worth taking. :)

As for the Cirque meal/show - unless people report back that the menu is atrocious, we'll be there!! I just hope I don't have to use the bathroom too many times during dinner, because I'll likely be emptying my glass more than usual just to see it get refilled! :p

I always find it amusing how negative people are about the idea of paying a surcharge for something that interests you but is obviously not for everyone. I'll bet if I came right out and asked them to buy me dinner they'd indignantly refuse, and yet they seem convinced that it would be better if everyone's fare was higher so that they wouldn't have to pay for whatever it is that they want. :) Well, I'm fine paying for my own dinner and activities, thank you - including those times when I choose to pay extra for something I consider worth it.

Sounds like fun ... Blue Man Group on board a ship. I know the guys in Las Vegas so am wondering if any of the passengers will recognize them should they be in a public area without their makeup. Or I wonder if they will even be allowed in the public areas without their makeup. This is very intriguing.

As for Cirque Dreams, be forewarned ... it is NOT Cirque du Soleil as some of you who posted here think. Neil Goldberg does what we call 'cirque style' entertainment. His shows copy the Cirque model. While they are not on the level of Cirque du Soleil, they are entertaining none the less. I'm sure the passengers will be thrilled by both performances!

It's not my place to express how I feel about cruising??? I never said we all have to live by one standard..... I expressed how I feel about cruising. The question was posted for us to respond to wasn't it?

I do think some people cruise for the wrong reasons. Case in point was the swine flu that had ships cancel the Mexican ports and passengers freaked (they weren't just sad or disappointed, they started protests on the ship) because they were bored on the ship without the ports. My feelings on cruising are that IF you cruise you really should love the cruise itself. All the other 'stuff' is just icing on the cake. ;)
Nothing is wrong with liking the 'icing' as long as you don't forget that you're on a ship and it's about the cruise.

make sense??
and it's JMO...just like everyone else's here ;)

...and now I'm craving cake........ :p

I never get this argument. NCL's fares are not that much cheaper than lets say Carnival, most of the time they are right inline from what ive seen. NCL definitely has the upper hand in the nickel and dime department, that's a fact when you compare how many surcharge (better than the other) items they have compared to other cruise lines.

Sure, nobody else offers BMG @ sea, but another line did offer Cirque de Soleil, and ya know what, it was free!

I definitely don't feed into the mind set that many on this board have about well you can have the same type of cruise as on another line, you just need to pay a little more in the end. To me, its a bunch of bologna.
Blue Man Group is FABULOUS! I saw the show in New York City... loved it so much, I went a second time.

I'd like to see them in Las Vegas, because I think the show is different. For anyone who did see that one... um... did you get buried under a few feet of toilet paper?

You wouldn't get me on the Epic for anything. TOOOOO BIG... TOOO CROWDED.
I saw BMG in Boston, Ma and we did get buried under a few feet of TP!!:D

We saw Blue Man Group at the Caesar's Casino in Windsor, Ontario.

We didn't care for it at all.

What is entertaining about chewing Captain Crunch to music and then spitting it on the floor when it gets too slobbery to crunch?

Thank goodness it was only a 45 minute show or we'd have left.

I think the show will appeal to all ages and nationalities (no dialogue!)

Saw the 30 min. show here on Weds. and it was received well from the audience. It's very different for sure not having any dialogue, but they do draw you into the show.

Of course, not everyone will like it. That's why it's only one offering on the entertainment side. Plenty of other offerings!

Obviously with the show running since 1991 in NYC, followed by Vegas and touring all over the world, somebody is enjoying them.:D

No charge, so at least worth going to and making up your own mind.

Yes, another line did try Cirque de Soleil (Celebrity) and failed. They didn't initially offer any kind of "show" and guests didn't like it at all.

From what they described the other day "Cirque" will also offer an interactive experience but will also have visual spectacles and "entertainment" going on under the Big Top. DH said, "I bet every kid on the ship will beg to go." $15 with dinner sounds pretty reasonable to me but others will immediately label it "nickel and diming."
I think its great to offer first rate entertainment such as Blue Man Group, however, i am really thinking it is gonna be at a premium. I don't think it's gonna be a free show.
NCL says it's free (well, included in your fare). They will do 8 shows during the 7 day cruise, and the venue holds 600 guests, so there's room for 4800 passengers to see the show. They said they will hand out tickets.
