tomc Posted December 13, 2004 #2 Share Posted December 13, 2004 I honestly can't tell one from another. Been on four or five of the newbuilds (Rotter and Amster, Maas and Veen) and they all look pretty identical to me except for the atrium sculptures. RuthC Posted December 13, 2004 #3 Share Posted December 13, 2004 Ever? That's easy---the ss Rotterdam (Rotterdam V). She was a dignified, traditional ocean liner. We will never see her likes again. Currently? Any of the original S-class ships. I like the size, and prefer the paino bar over the piano lounge in the R-class ships. Got to admit, though, I do love that mid-ship elevator. Bill S Posted December 13, 2004 #4 Share Posted December 13, 2004 Amsterdam-she is the co-flagship of the HAL fleet with the Rotterdam, so RuthC's description aptly fits her as well. She is extremely comfortable, beautifully decorated and has a great crew, the Amsterdam, that is. :)
luv2cruise450 Posted December 13, 2004 #5 Share Posted December 13, 2004 I agree with Bill...tho we have enjoyed all our cruises...some a little more than others...but the MS Amsterdam is just such a beautiful and elegant ship with a fabulous crew and staff and to date is our very favorite ship...would love to sail with her on one of her South American itineraries! But we are now considering the transatlantic on the Prinsendam for next fall! Happy sailing!
whalers4ever Posted December 13, 2004 #6 Share Posted December 13, 2004 ...Rotterdam V! She was a thing of beauty. Lots of wood, small and personal. Ships don't need rock climbing, bowling alleys, ice rinks. Even theaters may be pushing it. Just give me the glaciers and mother nature! JMHO! Krazy Kruizers Posted December 13, 2004 #8 Share Posted December 13, 2004 Amsterdam - a beautiful ship. The Rotterdam runs a close 2nd.
doone Posted December 13, 2004 #9 Share Posted December 13, 2004 I have to say the Amsterdam is my first favorite with the Volendam a very close second, then the Rotterdam, Veendam, Ryndam.
bepsf Posted December 13, 2004 #10 Share Posted December 13, 2004 Having experienced only two ships I prefer Oosterdam (and the Vista Class) over Amsterdam (and the R-Class)...
jhannah Posted December 13, 2004 #11 Share Posted December 13, 2004 My vote goes to the Rotterdam VI, for the reasons noted above. She's a fine vessel ... stately, elegant, and just the right size. We enjoyed the Prinsendm, too, and will be back on her next year. But overall it's the Rotterdam.
Rare Acrusa Posted December 13, 2004 #12 Share Posted December 13, 2004 Prinsendam: Unique and very personal and intimate cruise experience. Marc I agree. The Prinsendam, for its luxury and small intamite Atmosphere.A yacht like expierience.
obriendan Posted December 13, 2004 #13 Share Posted December 13, 2004 ms Ryndam, perhaps because our best itineraries, Panama and South America-Antarctica, were on the Ryndam.
bobpatj Posted December 14, 2004 #14 Share Posted December 14, 2004 We've sailed on the Rotterdam VI four times and it's been my favorite ship, so far. We sail on the Amsterdam for the first time in a few weeks, though, so she could become our new favorite!
localady Posted December 14, 2004 #15 Share Posted December 14, 2004 My favorite "Dam" ship is a toss-up between the current Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Ryndam. I loved all 3 of them very much! Out of the 7 HAL ships I have cruised on, I found the Statendam to be my least favorite as I feel she is showing her age more than the others. That is just the physical ship as each cruise I have taken on HAL has had great staff.:D
