Glory 7/11 - NIGHTMARE - My Review

It's amazing, if someone posts, oh la la, everything was perfect, folks ohh and ahhh and thank them, and everyone is happy.

If someone says lots of good stuff, but I didnt like this, folks jump on them telling them their experience wasnt valid, it shouldnt have been a issue, they are making a mountain out of a molehill and generally tearing apart anyone who doesnt say everything was perfect.

Why wouldnt folks want to know that someone didnt like something, why discourage any honesty??

Something that should have been said a long time ago on this thread. Thanks Firefly333!!!

Hi!

Just wanted to say I'm sorry you had such a rough time. I can't sleep in a warm room either, or I'll wake up with a migraine. :(

We were on the Glory with our 3-year-old in May, and Curtis was our cabin steward. He was soooo awesome, we left him extra cash tips throughout the week.

Hey Jas, just wondering, you mentioned in one of your posts that there was another pax that said their cabin was too cold. Was it not an option to just switch cabins with them? I personally take medicine that makes me cold so I like the room to be in the mid 70's but I agree trying to sleep in 80 degrees is a bit stressful!

To the OP I feel your pain. A hot room that can make you sweat is tough to sleep in. I keep the thermostat at my house set 78 to save energy, but I run celing fans so it feels cooler. If my ceiling fan did not work, 78 would be too warm to sleep in.

I had to spend 7 days on an RCI ship with 3 other friends in statroom that was about 80. Unfortunately, being that I was an employee on vacation I could not complain or ask for a room change. Man it was pretty tough some nights.

Like many have said temp is a personal thing. If the OP felt it was warm for him, it may well be and I think some kind of FCC would be due. When I worked for RCI I would have possibly given him anywhere from 15% to 25% FCC depending on certain factors. A hot room with no sleep is a downer and can ruin a vacation. Its tough to enjoy yourself when you are sleepy and tired. I think its fair to expect some compensation since he spent a few days trying to get it fixed and it couldn't. Had they fixed it the first day or maybe first thing the next morning, I would have probably just offered an apology, but a few days, yeah I would be offering an FCC.

Another Floridian here (just across the bridge in Tampa) and I find the OP's complaints totally valid. On a hot summer day, the last thing I want is a warm room! At least they told the OP the second room would be noisy, but let's get real. He paid for a cool, quiet room and did not get it.

OP, Good luck in your dealings with corporate.

We had a weird situation on the Emerald Princess in Feb. We were in a balcony cabin and about 3 in the morning we woke to the fire alarm going off in the room and it was extremely hot in there. The phone started to ring and I answered and it was an automated message telling us to go to our muster station that our alarm in our room is going off. We started to get ready and kept looking out into the hall to see if anyone else had the same call and alarm but no one was leaving there rooms and it was very quiet out there. SO I decided to call customer service desk and find out what the heck was going on and they said that the alarm was only going off in our room and we told them that the balcony door had a tendency to slide open on it's own. They said that the door sliding open probably shut down the air conditioner and it got so hot in there that the fire alarm thought there was a fire. Try to get to sleep after that. They actually had the lights going off on the ceiling with a wailing siren and everything. Talk about a wake up call.

Been on 10 Carnival cruises and they have all been just about perfect. Just off the Elation, yeah that Elation cruise, and don't have any complaints. We are very easy going people, but if you mess with my A/C, there will be WAR! Just a Warning to Carnival! On all my cruises I have gone to bed with the air at full blast and always wake up to crank it down a notch. A cabin at 73+ with no help is unacceptable! OP I really feel for you!

A cabin with humidity and a cabin without humidity are 2 different animals! Need a/c to take the Caribbean humidity out - otherwise, it can be unbearable, as the op unfortunately experienced. Glad to see you made the best of a bad situation - hope Carnival comes thru with a hefty discount on your next cruise.

I understand you were a bit uncomfortable. I had a similiar situation on the Holiday, but I still fail to see where the NIGHTMARE is.

A NIGHTMARE is when a tornado comes thru and rips the roof off your house in the middle of the night. A cranky 3 yr old and a slightly warm room is not a nightmare.

I'm done. I really thought you had a real nightmare with the way you started off. This is why people get bashed here. Over exageration of complaints. I am not saying the OP exagerated what he experienced, but the title of this thread is completely misleading and an exageration.

I live in so calif. I sleep with the ceiling fan 24/7 if i'm home and sometimes the air during the summer. During the summer there is nooooo way i can sleep in a hot room. *0 would be very uncomfortable and i would toss and turn. I'd be miserable. I'm not sure how i will handle my 1st cruise but if the room is 80 i wont be happy. When we stay in hotels we turn the ac on.

I understand your nightmare. in a hot room at bedtime I'd be frusturated and annoyed and to me and dd(10) it would be a nightmare we hate the heat especially at sleeping time.

He commented "This is a big ship"..."This is the hottest area"..."We're headed into drydock in 6 months"

Doncha just love when people say these things? Like it's gonna help.

If you want a temp, you should get a temp. If it's a "hot" area, the things that make it cool should be working to compensate.

This reminds me of our last sailing on the Jubilee, where I picked the cabin, as it was our honeymoon cabin 10 years earlier. Back then, the controls were right on the ceiling vent, where all you really did was control the amount of air flowing into the cabin.

Well, our cabin was WARM, and they tried everything, including taking the ceiling plate off. That last step got the room comfortable enough to survive in, but it was never really where we wanted it. Luckily, it was a transpacific cruise to Hawaii, where it was a bit cool, so the warmth wasn't TOO bad.

Would have definately moved if the cruise was in the Caribbean or there abouts!

Thanks for your honest review. After reading about the problems you had I turned to my DH and told him--now he's one who can't sleep in a warm/humid room and shouldn't have to on a vacation. First words out of his mouth were--'I hope they gave him back his money for the days he couldn't get any sleep'. It would be one thing if the AC was down for a couple of hours--but 3 days!!

I'm glad to hear the other aspects of your cruise were good--we sail next Saturday and can't wait!!

And here when I cruise, I wish I could get the room that warm. I have to shut off the air completely and then it is still too cold. We usually have to ask that the bedspread be left on the bed.

Like Salty, we keep our home set at 78 degrees and sometimes that is too cold. The winters kill us as it is harder to stay warm. When it gets below 70 degrees, we are looking for jackets.

BTW, mid 70's in Cozumel is considered a cold front.

Dave

Right there with you, the first thing I do when we enter our cabin is to turn it down. We spend all our awake time on the balcony in the sun. At home we do not have central air or a window unit.

Why get hung up on a Title? Or did it suck you in hoping for more?

I can tell you, a night with a cricket in the house that I can't find, or a toothache in the middle of the night, can be quite the nightmarish as well.

But, being the true definition of a nightmare is something that is not real, only seems it, these things would rate higher.

But all of it is a distraction to the story.

BTW, we enjoy temps hovering 70 for sleeping comfort, with low humidity.

I'm with you.....

I've walked in and OUT of restaurants because the AC is on too high.....

People tell me "just wear a sweater". What they don't understand is that I love the feeling of heat.......I hate the feeling of cool air.

If my cabin had been too cold...I would have been miserable.

It seems most people are lucky they weren't alive not that long ago, before everything was air-conditioned.

However, in this case....it seems Carnival missed an opportunity to make everyone happy. They just could have switched the couple who was complaining their room was too cold with the OP's family.

It's because for some reason people on here need to equate anything posted back to their own little world. The OP writes the experiences he had and everyone feels the need to turn it into what their personal preferences/experiences are. It's very bizarre (and funny).

Re: Switching us with the cold guests...

I purposed that, and was told it wasn't possible. (Several Times)

(The following is purely speculation/sluething: While standing at the desk I was very attentive to the scratch pads and I think the cold guest was in a 1A, which is the point that I started adding to my plea that we would make any arrangement work, bunk beds/mattresses on the floor, WHATEVER.

Based on the way it went down, I believe the missed ship person either told them they weren't coming, or they decided it was highly unlikely, moved us, then the next day moved them....[or moved someone else completely...again, its all speculation]

I pulled the room steward tips for all 3 of us, and went to the Casino to get the $75 that would have been normally due for the week. (Thank you cruise Critic for this knowledge!!!!!)

Jas-quick question-what do you mean by this?

Oh, and better yet, could you send your landlord or mortgage person a couple of grand for the privilege?

My frustration comes down to, in a land based hotel I would check out and move on, even at 1 in the morning. (Not paying for the night). On a cruise ship things blur because of the whole ocean and floating thing.

jas1178: In my opinion, your reporting of this challenge during your recent vacation was expertly done. Balanced. Well-written. Based more on fact than conjecture. So, in a word, Bravo! :)

I only quoted those two snippets from your posts because those were the ones that made me say, "Excellent", while reading.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. My Mom and I are going on to be on the Glory in Sept and I hope nothing like that happens to us. I have one question, what day is the chocolate buffet and formal nights. Thanks!

Good Review, thanks!! First thing my DH checks when we get to the room is AC. He has a heart condition and no way could sleep in that heat.

Oh my, hope no problems if they move to the Dream!!!

As for the poster wondering if the same was true for the Liberty. We were in a 6C the first time we cruised her and had no problems with the AC. Like others, except for our 2nd Liberty cruise going to Panama the ships were on the cool side!!

Thanks again for your review!!

Jas-quick question-what do you mean by this?

Basically you use your room key at the slot machine to 'debit' your sign and sail account. You then 'cash out' at the cage.

The charge gets lumped into your sign and sail account which hits your credit card as a standard charge (assuming you used a credit card) and not a cash advance.

On the western run:

Formal Nights are your sea days.

Chocolate Buffet is Lunch last sea day.

Another random thought: This itenerary was very odd in that your last day is a port day, and the day before is a Sea day. Every other cruise your final day is a Sea day....it was a weird feeling.
