Free drinks on ship casinos

Out of curiosity, does everyone who books through CAS receive a drink pass? We have only been on one NCL cruise in the past but somehow qualified for a discount - must be the 17% - for our upcoming cruise.

Free drinks at the casino would be a nice perk:)

We got free drinks on NCL Sky the last night of the cruise when we cashed in our points. I called CAS today about a discounted cruise and we qualify -- no mention of a free drink card, but I will call them back tommorow. If they give us one for the entire cruise, done deal, I'm booking! By the way, the bartender in the Sky casino rocked! He was the best one aboard.

The point system on NCL has been revampped. I just go off the Pearl 1/9/10. They had a program that if you earned 1500 points they will give you a drink card which allows you to drink for free while playing in the casino for the remainder of the cruise. They also let you convert 2500 points into 25 dollars off cabin charges.

I know what you mean they should give free drinks to players but they don't, at least in my experience. I know on RCCL, if the manager buys you a drink it comes from his own wages (he gets paid enough though). He doesn't have the authorization to charge it to the ship. We all know how expensive drinks are and i bet from the ships perspective, they are thinking that you are not going to stop playing because the drinks are not free. Its not like you are gonna go to the casino next door like you could in vegas.

Booking thru CAS will give you a drink card for the casino even if you only get the 17% discount. DH and I got comped last Nov and also booked another couple who got the discount even with no play history. They also got the free drink card.

I'm going via CAS thanks to my sister's comp. Do the casino drinks include the "foo-foo" variety? :D

is this only on NCL, or does celebrity have any type of rewards?

Yes. If NCL is #1 for perks at sea, Celebrity is probabaly the 2nd best. You need to be around the same $25/$50 level for an hour or two a day and you get invited to the "blue chip club" will gets drinks/cruises/rebates etc. based on your play. I've done a few cruises with them in this club and I'm quite happy.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO deckhawk: On my last Celebrity cruise I played in the casino every night for at least four hours.I have had a spread of $145 to $170 to start. Then it went up as I played. To date I have not gotten an invitation to join the "blue chip club." I am going on a Celebrity cruise later this year. I will again play the way I usually play. If I get an invite to join the "blue chip club" fine. If not I intend to keep playing anyway. One should not choose a cruise because of perks.

ehhh...slightly disagree. I will keep coming back to the cruise line that makes my experience the best. The perks definitely help make it the best. I'll continue to play on X until they stop giving me perks... As I've mentioned, I played the same amount and didn't get marked on CCL/RCI...so I don't go back... Why pay for a cruise when I can go for free?

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO Deckhawk: CCL usually treats me pretty well. I have gotten drinks, wine sent to MDR, and credits in the casino. RCI owns Celebrity. I haven't gotten anything from them either except a hard time. Celebrity treats me pretty well, except membership as a blue chipper.

Patti- that will be true, only if you spend A LOT of money on that first day in the casino. As a general rule, comp drinks are only available to the "high roller" types...

HHHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO tompeter: If you play Three-Card-Poker, BJ, or Craps with a $50 minimum bet on the Pass Line or Ante for a minimum of two hours then you should receive perks in the Casino.

I worked as dealer in a casino. We would laugh at the way players would throw away money to get a "free" comp. The casino didn't give away free drinks as it was again the state law to give free liquor. If you think that drink prices are bad on the ship stay away from some casinos. Our drink prices were really high.

Many players would see the pit boss, casino host or supervisor come by the table and jump their bets up trying to fool them into thinking that they were making larger bets than they were. The floor people did not get those jobs by being stupid.

One night a player was hot and left with a large sum. The pit boss asked if I got any tokes. I said nothing. He went into the computer and wiped out the players comps. Tokes (TIPS) go a long way.

Best advice is to play what you can afford to lose and what you have allowed for entertainment. Don't play trying to get comps and don't play thinking that you will come out ahead. I have seen too many "winners" go broke and end up losing everything. One was a cousin that committed suicide because of his gambling debt.

Just be nice, friendly, and fun and you may just get some free drinks on a cruise ship.

We aren't high rollers, but we have fun and interact with everyone.

If you set there like a bump on a log, or being arse, you will be noticed, but not in the right way.

We have cruised twice on NCL, Spirit in 2009, Sun in Feb 2011. We booked both times through our Harrah's Total Rewards discount phone reservation line. Our Casinos at Sea players cards and Free Drink cards were waiting for us in the cabin. Never paid for a drink in the casino, but left a tip each time. I saw something about qualifying for a free drink card while playing in the casino, but I believe the Harrahs connection automatically gets you the drink card. Other benefits, 5, 10 or 15% cruise discount depending on your Total Rewards level. On last cruise, had special Casinos at Sea boarding line which was EMPTY at Port Canaveral. Got right on with no wait.

Why don't the ships give free drinks to players on ship casinos? I believe if they do that, they will see more players make bad moves and the casinos will earn more money. Anybody else think so?

2000 people on a ship. The only place you can get "free drinks" is at the casino. Just imagine all those people sitting on a machine all day long playing the absolute minimum just so they get "free drinks". You'd have to get to the casino as soon a it opened if you hoped to get a machine or a seat at a table. JMHO

foreverfree1.. I don't know if you read my post, but the casinos are not crowded with people trying to get free drinks. Most people are smart enough to realize the price they will pay. The non-casino people on a cruise will play just for the novelty of it and pay for their drinks just as they do in the rest of the ship. My point was that IF you book through Harrah's, you can get free drinks in the casino without having to meet any minimum play. Just a nice perk.

Read all the posts. I was referring to the OP's original question.
