Carolyn the pictures are so great......it's fun following you during this exciting time for everyone.....

$1.5 BILLION.........now that's a number I just can't wrap my head around :eek:

I was wondering if they are going to have LIGHTWEIGHT BACKPACKS WITH THE OASIS/RCCL LOGO on them for sale in the gift shop. Something special for this special ship.

I to hope we'll be able to get up front on the ship. :)

Wow, what an amazing day. I can't wait to share it with you! Just to quick heads up, as we're on the bus returning to our hotel from an exhausting but fantastic day on Oasis of the Seas (also got sneak peak at Allure) that Dan's in the process of posting video and photos, so stay tuned.

 

We saw a lot (but not everything, are returning tomorrow to tour cabins and such). Highlights?

 

*If you're splurging, the Royal Crown suite is the best onboard, bigger than most houses. But I really loved the Loft Corner suites (great, wide balconies). One Loft Suite was done up and it's a sleek space (we'd seen a prototype last November and it looked just the same but of course this one had a view!)

 

*The Rising Tide Bar (goes from Royal Promenade on deck five to Central Park on deck 8) is much cooler than I expected. It's open air (I thought it would be glass enclosed. It's a curiosity but I'd enjoy having a drink there now and then

 

*Royal Promenade already light infused with skylights even though most of 'em are taped up for protection. It's going to be beautiful.

 

*Loved Central Park, even without the plants (they'll be installed in November in Florida). Just felt serene even in the midst of a construction zone.

 

*Carousel is charming! Aqua Pool is really high tech. Didn't remember about the beach pool but there is one, without sand.

 

One thing I did learn to take with a grain of salt was the constant "first ever" claims by RCI folks today. Like: First ever candy store at sea (nope, MSC's got 'em on Fantasia and Splendida), there were others can't remember.

 

Took tons of notes and it will take me a day or two or three to distill them so do keep checking back for new material (and of course tomorrow's a whole other day).

 

Will answer your specific questions probably next week. Don't think I forgot.

 

And re questions, best to ask them before tomorrow so I can make sure to find answers.

Hey -- the shipyard does have a gift shop (is it new? Never saw it before) and it's closed now but they say they might open for us tomorrow, got to find some cash.

 

I can see Oasis shirts and I think backpacks....

It sounds like you are having a wonderful (albeit busy) time. Thanks for the awesome updates.

 

Are the corner lofts that you are referring to the Sky Loft suites? I am especially interested in the corner sky loft 1720, its layout and if it has a wrap around balcony.

carolyn sounds like the Oasis is going to be a spectacular ship. was it easy to navigate like the voyager/freedom class ships. hoepfully there aren't a lot of "dead ends" whereby you have to constantly to go up or down stairs to get to the dining room, etc

The question came up at today's press conference: will the ship be finished in time?

 

 

The answer from Harri Kulovaara, Royal Caribbean's head of RCI's maritime operation, said that "400.000 – 450,000 man hours are left and the ship will be completed in early October, which is ample time for putting on the finishing touches. I’m not losing sleep at all over that."

 

 

Another person who said he wasn't worried about any delays in the ship (which incidentally is predicted to actually finish early -- one of the reasons RCI added on a cruise Dec. 1 before the official first seven nighter) is Martin Landtman, who runs STX Europe. "We don’t deny for one second that it hasn’t been a challenge to build the world’s largest ship in such a short time. We have a buffer to the delivery date so we are well in hand.

Oh, these photos are making me giddy! That second shot that Dan posted....OMG! That is where the zipline is going to go! Can ya tell I'm really interested in the zipline? I will be on that ride for sure! :)

If some rooms, like Studio B, the dining room and the casino, were almost done, others have a ways to go! Specifically, none of the restaurants have really taken shape yet (you can see where Sorrentos and Cafe Promenade are to go on the Royal Promenade but neither quite look like eateries -- yet).

 

Frank Weber, who oversees Royal Caribbean's dining program, did tell us while we were in Central Park that there would be 24 places onboard selling food (variety of casual and more formal), 10 would levy an extra fee and 14 would be what RCI calls "complimentary" and what I call "included in your cruise fare."

 

The most interesting? Giovanni's Table will replace Portofino's (that's interesting but also a huge bummer for me cause Portofino's is marvelous). It's an Olive Garden kind of place, more family oriented. Johnny Rocket's will serve breakfast (!) -- menu hasn't been determined but expect diner food. The Park Cafe, a self-service joint on Central Park, will feature build-your-own salads and sandwiches. Vintages, RCI's wine bar, will add tapas to its menus. Chops makes a comeback and 150 Central Park, intended to be the ship's loftiest eatery, has a menu that's not yet finalized (there is a 150 Central Park sample menu).

Fain was complaining (I think a bit light-heartedly) that photogs weren't allowed to photograph the royal family eating so why were they shooting him.

 

Got to say -- those cupcakes were marvelous....

His second shot was actually of Central Park taken from the bridge looking towards the aft of the ship (at the viking crown). You can tell by the glass canopy esque thing down below. If it was the boardwalk (where the zip line will be) the Carousel would have been there.

I'm 20 for my Oasis sailing in January so I won't be old enough to drink yet but it will be my first cruise where I'm old enough to use the casino!
