What do you want to know about Oasis of the Seas AND Turku, Finland?

Recommended Posts

RCI is phasing out art auctions! Well, on Oasis of the Seas anyway.

There will be no controversial art auctions, but there will be an art gallery which will sell work from artists.

We are told there will be a wide range of art available -- from originals to postcards.

New for Oasis and announced today is the Chef's table at the Concierge Lounge. Dinner will be paired with wine and there is space for only 14 pasengers. The cost? $70 per person.

Is that the Concierge Lounge for suite guests & Diamond Plus C&A members?

$70 per person :eek::eek:

Yes, they're really offering it. There wasn't much to see (it was the one part of the casino that didn't look near to being finished) but I'm sure we'll be hearing more....

Carolyn

You mentioned sports betting. Are they really offering it in the casino? Anything you can find out would be appreciated. Thank You

Hi, Liz, I'm fuzzy on where the lounge is -- believe the suite lounge is way up top somewhere and the C&A lounge is on Royal Prom. But not sure, will check....

Carolyn, love the pics of the Carousel! I believe it's made by the same company as one here on LI which has just been refurbished and reopened, and it is an amazing piece of artwork.

I am shocked they are phasing out art auctions. I always thought it was a huge moneymaker for them. Besides, where am I going to score free champagne?;)

Can't wait to see those cabin photos......

Sorry to hear there will not be any art auctions on Oasis. I enjoyed going and bought several pieces; they're all over the house! As far as the controversy, if people bought what they enjoyed rather than having an eye on future profit, there would be no controversy. Anyway, thatnks for all the info and pics, it's great, and can't wait to sail her!

With all that there is to do on the oasis, I am glad they are phasing out the Art. My wife and I were on a cruise last year and they did not have the auction, and it was great. I am not saying that we have not purchased art on cruises before, but it has gotten out of control. Sorry about the little rant.

Getting back to the mother of all cruise ships.... I am surprised that Oasis is not doing a longer cruise (10 days or longer). With all that there is to do and see you can not get it all in in 7 days.

-- Oasis of the Seas' new restaurant, 150 Central Park, will charge the highest fee in cruising -- $35 per person.

--If you don't want to miss a show on Oasis, then you can reserve seats for the entertainment! You can do it pre-cruise, online or onboard at the ship's box office. Entry is still free though.

I think reserving seats for the entertainment venue is a very smart move.. We all know about the lines and jostling it takes to get into a show on smaller ships.. terrific idea!

Yep, that's why I asked for a pic (you're referring to the old Nunley's carousel, right?). I also think they refurbed the one from the former Bethpage Farmer's Market, which is now in Greenport.

Thanks, Carolyn, for the pics!

In addition to those items already checked, I am also very much looking forward to the new two level solarium area. It should be awesome. My family and I will have the chance to experience this and more as we are already booked on the sister ship, Allure of the Seas for its 8/21/11 sailing. Can't wait!!

Exactly, Laura. My kids spent many hours on that Carousel, which has finally reopened along "Museum Row." The kids from a school I sometimes work in sang at the opening and raised the money to refurbish one of the horses. Additionally, I grew up across the street from Forest Park in Queens and spent many hours riding their carousel. So the fact Oasis has a carousel is really an unusual treat for a ship which I will enjoy tremendously!

Laura, I posted my last post and forgot this--any information on what they are going to be offering at Solarium dining for breakfast and lunch which will differ from the Windjammer? In other words--is it JUST going to be the healthy items that would be at Windjammer anyway, or will there be special dishes created just for the Solarium no-charge meals?

Please accept my apologies for the dumb question, but when is the official first voyage? I have not been following all the publicity on Oasis, but I thought I would watch my stock around the first sailing and see what happens. I'll probably sail on Oasis in 2012, I was on Freedom's 100th and hope to be on Oasis' 100th

Here are some shots of Oasis' balcony cabins. This one happens to look out of the exterior (i.e. a normal balcony on a ship!), but regardless of whether you're in a standard balcony on the Boardwalk, Central Park or exterior, they all are identical.

They're very nice -- pillowtop beds that convert from twin to double and that are outfitted with nice, crisp, crinkly sheets. There's a vanity and a love seat/sitting area. Color scheme is really restful, blues and greens. A couple of interesting details: there's this odd (but probably useful) sort of magazine rack affixed to the wall at the entry. It's a good place I guess to store your daily programs and such.

The bathrooms are definitely different (in fact we saw these identical mock-ups when we went to the cabin factory north of here a few years back). They're bigger -- but that means the bathroom wall curves out into the hallway. As a result, closets are not lining the hallway but face you in the room (similar to Celebrity Solstice/Equinox). Bathrooms are definitely more roomy, and are shower only.
