What do you want to know about Oasis of the Seas AND Turku, Finland?

Recommended Posts

The machines were begging. Well, if they'd been plugged in they'd be be begging!

Interestingly, this casino has a separate VIP area for poker and also a separate area for sports bets.

By the way the first photo is of the wedding chapel. It's non-denominational, meaning inoffensive to any religion, organized or otherwise, but it's actually a lovely, light space. The walls are faux-stone, the color scheme is baby blue, there's lots of light from the wall of windows. And there's a matching room, across deck (I believe) 17, the Loft Suites deck, that's reserved for wedding/ceremonial purposes (from bride gathering spot to reception arena).

It's the most beautiful wedding chapel I've ever seen, at least at sea, and Teijo and I are cruising next winter and I'm seriously thinking about surprising him :)

The photo (the first in this series) is of a woman who's hand-painting, or rather hand-finishing, ceiling details. This is the kind of work that's going to increase on Oasis in the next few weeks. The tough stuff (laying of pipe and other such engineering marvels) is done. Now it's time for the fun, decorative work....

We rode the Rising Tide Bar! While eating cupcakes, which I can pretty much guarantee is a first-and-only experience. It was nice, better than I expected, very soft movement, you didn't realize you were going up (or in our case down) until it was obvious. A crew member mans a computer-operated system that also controls lighting (different for daytime, nighttime and parades).

I think I wrote this before but just in case, the speed and rapidity can be controlled, so the Rising Tide can do 3 - 6 roundtrips in an hour, depending.....

Carolyn

Odd question but do you think we'll be able to ride the rising tide bar? At maybe daytime or to you think it will be just for guests 21 and older all the time?

Did they give any indication as to how they will manage crowds? In the eveing/night this will probably prove a popular place to hang out.

I can imagine it can only hold a certain amount of people and if they are doing 6 up/downs per hour that's only 10 minutes in one direction...certainly not long enough to enjoy/linger over a drink or two. Are you allowed to stay on beyond one direction's journey?

This really does get the excitement level soaring!

Is there a back entrance to the all the facilities during inclement weather for Central Park? I would be disappointed in having to cancel a wonderful dinner reservation at 150 Central Park or elsewhere because of torrential rains.

Here's a forward shot of Allure of the Seas, which is just behind Oasis. You can see the forward section has been built all the way up to the bridge....

Thanks for including some sneak peeks at Allure too! Only 19 months until I get to see her for myself. *sigh*

I'm not sure. If it was something that had to close when near land such as the casinos and stores I would say during those times but with bars being allowed to operate 24/7 I don't think they will allow anyone under 21 on. Maybe I'm wrong though, nobody in my family ever uses the bars so maybe they do have times when they have to close.

I'm curious if they are going to go back and make the others match Oasis. Voyager goes into dry dock in January so that may the first to get the new paint.

Voyager has already been to dry dock, in May:D No Blue paint on the hull.

Carolyn, I'm lovin it!

If some rooms, like Studio B, the dining room and the casino, were almost done, others have a ways to go! Specifically, none of the restaurants have really taken shape yet (you can see where Sorrentos and Cafe Promenade are to go on the Royal Promenade but neither quite look like eateries -- yet).

Frank Weber, who oversees Royal Caribbean's dining program, did tell us while we were in Central Park that there would be 24 places onboard selling food (variety of casual and more formal), 10 would levy an extra fee and 14 would be what RCI calls "complimentary" and what I call "included in your cruise fare."

The most interesting? Giovanni's Table will replace Portofino's (that's interesting but also a huge bummer for me cause Portofino's is marvelous). It's an Olive Garden kind of place, more family oriented. Johnny Rocket's will serve breakfast (!) -- menu hasn't been determined but expect diner food. The Park Cafe, a self-service joint on Central Park, will feature build-your-own salads and sandwiches. Vintages, RCI's wine bar, will add tapas to its menus. Chops makes a comeback and 150 Central Park, intended to be the ship's loftiest eatery, has a menu that's not yet finalized (there is a 150 Central Park sample menu).

Ooh, thanks for the sample menu -- I love daydreaming about cruise food! Anyone else think menu B sounds much better than menu A?

To be honest neither appeal to me. Johnny Rockets (never been yet) is the only one that sounds good. I have a picky diet though since I'm an unofficial vegetarian (I eat meat as long as there is no bone, veins, fat, or anything else that reminds me it's an animal, lol), I don't like salads, and I don't like seafood. That basically eliminates all the specialty restaurants as even the italian (which i love, especially Olive Garden) restaurants are all seafood and steak items. I always try different menu items in the MDR and then if necessary resort to plain pasta.

Ironically for not liking Carnival they offered the best dinning. The one night I did not find anything on the menu so instead of giving me plain pasta the waiter said he would come up with something. He returned with cheese tortellini in an alfredo sauce with ham and broccoli. All things I love, he basically looked back at what I had eaten the previous days and came up with a special dish. I've never had that happen on either RCCL or Disney.

Great question, Chris and the answer is no, alas....

More photos and videos coming! Later this morning, look for pics of loft suite balconies and the magical carousel. Today we're supposed to visit standard cabins (but things change so who knows). I'm off to the shipyard.

Carolyn

thanks for all the Great Photos and Video of the ship :) If you have any more photos and Video please keep them coming.

Thanks

Chris

Carnival's dining is its best kept secret -- it's really good! I think Carnival won an Editor's Picks award from Cruise Critic last year for it....

The carousel -- which literally was just unwrapped -- is pure, pure magic. It's on the Boardwalk. There will be no fee to ride and I think it's the kind of thing that'll bring out the kid in just about everyone!
