So we plan to pick a hotel with shuttle from FLL airport to hotel and then from hotel to PC to join the Eurodam on Nov. 20th. I haven't chosen yet.

On our return a week later we plan to spend the day in Fort Lauderdale and then leave the next morning from FLL.

My question is: is the Downtown area walkable so that if I "Priceline/Hotwire" a downtown hotel and we want to go to the Science museum, we will be able to walk there even if it is a mile or two? We don't want to hire a car if we can walk the district and entertain ourselves.

Thanks.

Wow! This thread is something else. So much useful info here. I have a question, and forgive me if it is on one of the 43 pages and I may have missed it but...we are cruising the Carnival Dream Jan 8. Flying into MCO the day before. We are looking at the Courtyard Mariott Cocoa Beach. I see they have a fly, snooze and cruise package deal. My question is...who as stayed here and is it nice? And, this seems pretty convenient with the shuttle to/from the airport and to/from the port. I am getting a rate of $233 for all of this. To me it sounds like a good deal but just curious of anyone else has done this deal before. How do we 'book' the shuttle?

Thanks for your help. :)

I can only tell you the hotel is nice and in a good location. As for the deal I always shop around.

This is our first time sailing out of Port Canavarel, is there any other

place close by to park besides the port? We are going out of pier 10

There is a new Park & Sail in Cocoa that will save you about $50 on a 7 day cruise. Go back a few pages in this thread for more details. Also many hotels here will let you leave your car with one nights stay and shuttle you to/from the ship.

I am getting married the day before a cruise leaving from Port Canaveral next September. I am trying to choose a beach to be married on, but never having been in the area, this is a challenge. Cocoa Beach is out because we would like more privacy and a non-touristy beach. My wedding officient sent me a list with some pictures and I am torn between Cherie Downs Beach Park in Cape Canaveral and Pelican Beach Park in Satellite Beach. I am wanting something that is very nature-ful and doesn't have a lot of buildings on the shore or anything.

Can someone help with suggestions? Thanks!

I dont know the area well either, but a friend got married there in cocoa beach in a little park..Lori Wilson park I think. It was on I Dream of Jeannie lane. Was nice..a little board walk type area with a pavilion looking out over the beach. Dont know how crowded it gets..we were there in June and it wasnt too bad.

OK I need to really bring each and all up to speed if you are returning a car back in here at Cape Canaveral.

I did some checking today and if you do NOT fill your gas tank before turning it in, you will be charged $6.999 a gal so save yourself a little bit of monies by stopping at one of the gas stations before you turn it back in.

Just food for though or should I say just gas for though ;-)

Closest Hotels to Port Canaveral

All below 3 Cape Canaveral hotels are about 2 miles from the port and offer rooms with a view of the port, where you will be able to see the cruise ships in the morning. Be sure and sign up for the port shuttles. None of these 3 hotels are on the beach nor is it within walking distance of the beach (5 min cab ride). If you want the beach close, look for a hotel in Cocoa Beach – beachfront hotels are posted further down.

RADISSON HOTEL

Website: http://www.radisson.com/capecanaveralfl/

Beginning July 9 2007 Radisson will officially offer free transportation for guests on weekends and other selected times – the Area will be the Port, Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach and Kennedy Space Center (KSC by reservation only)

Free cruise parking with an overnight stay

Breakfast buffet for $9.95, some higher rates include breakfast

Radisson webcam (points to the port):

http://www.radissonport.com/CruiseShips.htm

ROOM INFORMATION PER REQUEST

None of the rooms will give you an ocean view since they are several blocks from the ocean. The standard rooms are only 2 stories. The suite buildings are 3 stories. For standard rooms and either the 200 or 400 building for suites. The 200 building is closer to the pool although the pool area may get quite noisy so if you want a quiet area request courtyard views. The most favorite rooms are in the 800 building 2nd floor facing the pool. Be aware that most of the pool side rooms are king rooms. There are just a few rooms with 2 beds facing the pool.

Due to the construction of high rise condos, there are very few rooms that will give you small views of the ships unfortunately none have a wide open view of the port any more.

Car Rental

All agree that the cheapest option is to rent a car one-way from the airport, drive to the port, drop luggage/family off at port, drop rental car off and take rental car shuttle back to the port. Repeat in reverse for your post-cruise trip back to the airport. Hertz, Budget, Thrifty, Avis & Enterprise, all have drop off locations and free round trip shuttles very close to the port (companies are listed in order of closeness to the port). These four places are open on Sundays and their port shuttles start early in the morning until afternoon.

Where can I buy gas for my rental car/food /snacks/alcohol /toiletries I forgot to pack?

About a mile past the entrance to the port (right next door to Residence Inn and Country Inns and Suites) is a big Racetrak mini mart/gas station for beer and probably some wine plus other supplies as water, sodas, snacks etc. Most stores that sell only beer and wine and are allowed to sell between 7 am to 2 am except most places on Sunday don’t start until 12PM. Racetrak has a very friendly staff members and have been known to help many number of lost guests find themselves on the right road.

They also now have beach supplies such as sunglasses, sun lotion etc and working toward getting more supplies on hand.

Can I walk to the port from my hotel?

It’s about 2 miles from the closest hotel (Raddison or Country Inns and Suites), along a highway with no sidewalk. Not recommended!

After you pass the cruise ship port get into the left lane and slow when it says to 45mph (police fav. hiding place) the road turns into a city street with a RateTrac store on your right. Look to the left at the big white bldg with the blue roof and turn left between there and McDonalds. Go to the traffic light (2 blocks) and turn left. Go to the traffic light (3 Blocks) and turn right.

Are you home? How was the trip?

The trip to mine and Norm's hometown of Key West was so nice - the weather was great, the ride through the keys were more beautiful than ever and getting "home" put a lump in our throats. Most of the ol' conchs have moved from KW but we went to their favorite watering hole to get our usual - cuban coffee and bread although for the first time in KW's history, noone is able to get the real cuban bread since all the old bakeries have closed down. Got to the graveyard and assessed what all had to be done, sat with my cousin who is the sexton and was able to research quite a bit on the families on both side.

Had an excellent conch meal at Rusty's Anchor which had the Key West lobster and the stone crabs - as I told Norm, we paid a high price for what use to be staple food for us, but the meal was over the top. Traffic was horrific and it seems to get more confusing each time we go down, but still loved it all to be able to go "home" if only for a little while.

Thanks my friend for everything - you are a great friend with a wealth of information for so many and I am blessed.

Shirley, I know this is a little out of your region but thought you may have heard people talking so I thought I would ask. We believe we will staying in Orlando on Dec.31. I am looking for a hotel with shuttle provided to hotel. Have you had anyone comment to you about places they have stayed while in Orlando. Unfortunately we are on a budget. Thanks thought it was worth the asking.

Hello lincolndog, I know so little about Orlando, but I understand that Michael from Laura's Shuttle has his office at The Sleep Inn and he does come over to the port. I understand this hotel is inexpensive, but clean and nice - again can not say yes or no to this place.

Here is the information and just maybe you can drop him a note and he may be the best one to help you if you can not find anything else.

Good luck

Laura’s Shuttle

This shuttle service provides transportation for your needs in Orlando and

Central Florida including the cruise ship transportation here at the Port.

You can call Michael directly at 866-945-2872 or his cell 321-695-8790.

WELCOME BACK Shirley...GLAD you had a GOOD time and were able to get away!!!

GREAT for the post with all the info too...lots of work...MUCHLY APPRECIATED will be in your FAIR PORT 5 weeks from this coming friday:D

Hey there Star - the trip was just great - so much new construction going on the way down to Key West, that it was hard to pinpoint places I remember as a young kid - I remember when we could stop the car on top of one of the bridges, fish over the side of them and we were lucky if one car came by in all that time - now we are lucky to be able to jump back in your car if we get out :)

Anyhow with such a short time to edit, I found a lot of broken links so I am going to have to repost the new update, but not for a little while - it at least gives enough information to help those coming here and not feel so at lost. Its kinda scary going into a strange place and know nothing about the area - my gosh coming back from Key West, Norm and I had to stop in Miami for business and I was so darn scared AND lost, that when we finally got on 95, I kept telling my loverboy (our GPS) that I forgave him for getting us lost for just a few minutes there in Miami, but getting us out as quickly as he did. My goodness felt like I should have been looking for a shuttle launch. I loved the area though and found so many places I wanted to stop and eat, but Norm felt it was best to get into areas we knew like home :)

Anyhow glad the days are counting down for you - enjoy and hope all the information has helped you feel a little more comfortable.

Well talk about almost jumping out of my skin, I did a little while ago - sitting at the traffic light when I heard this LOUD and horrific noise - didn't know where it was coming from and all of a sudden this huge faster than light plane flew overhead - it was the Blue Angels practicing for their show - traffic just stopped, folks jumped out of their cars to see the sight and take pictures, but there is no way any pictures could have been taken for they were there and then G-O-N-E - If you are going to be here for the show, believe me they will be sure preforming just for you.

ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
