MrPete Posted March 16, 2013 #1 Share Posted March 16, 2013 Still looking for detailed info and corroberation. Friends sailing today. All I've read is the delay is due to housekeeping. Wonder if 50% future discounts are being offered to this returning group, if true.
kingoftheicedragons Posted March 16, 2013 #2 Share Posted March 16, 2013 I'm still trying to find this. I even did a page search for Miracle on John's page and came up empty. Keep us updated since obviously I'm not that talented a Facebook user.
goofycruiser Posted March 16, 2013 #3 Share Posted March 16, 2013 We are sailing on the Miracle today. We got an e-mail last night telling us that Grand Turk is cancelled . We are also boarding late and sailing late This is due to some illness on Grand Turk and the ship has to be super cleaned after the last cruise. I am okay with this because I don' t want to get sick on a 15 day cruise. We will have 4 sea dayys before our first port. We get our port fees refunded too. cruzn buckeye Posted March 16, 2013 #5 Share Posted March 16, 2013 What illness is going around on Grand Turk? And is it an illness that can affect cruising there in the future? If so, there goes one of my ports... dang it.
MrPete Posted March 16, 2013 Author #6 Share Posted March 16, 2013 Well, it's official. It just dawned on me. Isn't this the repositioning cruise? And GAWD! When are they gonna drop the B E T C H A?????? CARNIVAL MIRACLE MARCH 16, 2013 Hi there! Betcha can't wait for your cruise tomorrow, which is why we want to provide you with some important information regarding our itinerary plans for your sailing on the Carnival Miracle. During the last week there has been an increase in reported cases of gastroenteritis among cruise ship guests following their visit to Grand Turk. Affected passengers were sailing aboard the ships of multiple cruise lines and include guests from the Carnival Miracle's current cruise. Although not confirmed, we are investigating whether there may be a link with consumption of food and beverages while guests were ashore in Grand Turk. Therefore, in an abundance of caution and because the well-being of our guests is our highest priority, various cruise lines, including ours, have cancelled calls to Grand Turk and are continuing to monitor the situation while the cause of the illnesses is being determined. We know you were looking forward to visiting Grand Turk and apologize we are unable to deliver the itinerary you were expecting. Unfortunately, there are no other viable port alternatives for us. Pre-purchased shore excursions for Grand Turk, as well as a refund of the government fees and taxes, will be automatically refunded to your Sail & Sign account. We have also implemented extensive additional cleaning and sanitizing procedures aboard in accordance with recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Therefore, boarding will run behind schedule while we get things ready for your arrival. Rest assured, we are committed to doing everything possible to safeguard the health of our guests and crew. To ensure a smooth embarkation experience, check-in for your cruise is now scheduled from 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM and sailing is set for 6:00 PM. For your comfort and convenience, and since seating is limited in the cruise terminal, we ask that you please not arrive before 2:30 PM. Thank you for your understanding. Once again, we're very sorry for this change and truly regret the disruption to your vacation plans. More importantly, we can't wait to welcome you aboard the beautiful Carnival Miracle for a FUN and memorable cruise. See you soon! Sincerely, Vicky Rey, CTC Vice President - Guest Services
pe4all Posted March 16, 2013 #7 Share Posted March 16, 2013 I'll have to keep an eye on this. We are due to be in GT on the 26th. I wouldn't mind if they cancelled that port. Would love an extra sea day!
cruzn buckeye Posted March 16, 2013 #8 Share Posted March 16, 2013 Hopefully, they get this taken care of before Sept. We have 3 ports, grand turk, nassau, and half moon cay. If they should stop going there, this would be a cancellation or change of ship for sure.

MDSue Posted March 16, 2013 #10 Share Posted March 16, 2013 We are sailing the Freedom next week and GT is their first port. I truly hope they can schedule a different port if the problem continues. Don't want to get a gastro illness, but hate to miss a port. I'll make sure I eat on the ship if we stop here!

We love having a "ghost ship" when others go off the ship. Now, if only the casino was open when in port, I would be ecstatic!!:D
SeaPA1 Posted March 16, 2013 #12 Share Posted March 16, 2013 So a bunch of people get sick on the ship, and they put the blame on the island last visited? What odds are greater: 1. All of the sick passengers happened to end up in the same place while on GT & ate bad food or drank bad water at that spot? 2. All of the sick passengers ate something/drank something bad on the ship, or crossed paths/were in proximity with each other on the ship and spread the illness amongst each other. I guess it COULD be that they got sick from something on Turk, but it sounds far more likely that it was a ship-related illness & CCL is blaming the island to avoid another hit of negative press. Umm, pretty sure they said in the letter that other cruise lines were affected and that other cruise lines, as well as them, are skipping the port. But, nice job anyway. ashley@cruisecritic Posted March 16, 2013 #15 Share Posted March 16, 2013 Hi all, We've got e-mails in to Carnival, Holland America and Princess, all of which have had ships there in the past week and are scheduled to have more ships there this coming week. We'll let you know as soon as we hear anything.
FloridaGram Posted March 16, 2013 #16 Share Posted March 16, 2013 Disney Does not go to Grand Turk. I did a google search. The Ruby Princess had the problem and does appear to have gone to Grand Turk. So did the Vision of the Seas but it appears it did not go there. As you probably know there is a large bar and restaurant there that many frequent. It could be that is where they have in common. I know the pool there gets really nasty when the number of people that are there all get in it. I don't think they would miss this port if this were not true. I believe that CCL built this terminal, or at least has a big financial stake in it, and would not miss it if they did not feel like that had to. Hopefully they will sanitize the restaurant on the island too.
FloridaGram Posted March 16, 2013 #17 Share Posted March 16, 2013 Different topic but if you go to the Grand Turk cruise terminal website there is a schedule of the ships to be in port. I was surprised to see that some days there are 2 ships there. IMO, YOU DO NOT WANT TO GO THERE WHEN THERE ARE 2 ships in port. (unless you wanted to enjoy the ship while others are off) It would be packed and that would not be my idea of fun. I have been there twice and it was very crowded with one ship there. penny67 Posted March 16, 2013 #19 Share Posted March 16, 2013 My mom and Dad just got off the carnival miracle today 3/16/2013. It is true about people being sick. The question i have is how many?? do they refund any money back to the people. They were both quarantined . My dad is still sick . They both had to go to the ships doctor and were told that there was no charge. That makes me wonder how many people did get sick and they are not informing the people that were on the ship.. It will only come out if a certain percentageof the passengers were sick, and then it has to be reported to the CDC. Then it comes out in the news. SICK SHIP! ducklite Posted March 16, 2013 #22 Share Posted March 16, 2013 I don't see how anyone could possibly blame any of the cruise lines for cancelling Grand Turk under these circumstances. If anything, I think they'd be considered careless if they didn't. That said, the timing is just another blow to Carnival. Wonder how they are doing in after hours trading... They were down yesterday, and I expect CCL will continue trending downward until they make some significant changes--possibly including senior management. Rare Essiesmom Posted March 16, 2013 #23 Share Posted March 16, 2013 Ruby Princess is in Nassau today...Not scheduled to be there, should be a sea day and FLL tomorrow. But she was supposed to be in GT yesterday, and I'm wondering if they cancelled that and substituted Nassau. Nothing on the Princess board but a query as to why she is in Nassau. A search of the roll call says they missed GT and went to Nassau instead. And this from the March 17 roll call, from a passenger currently onboard Ruby: "The captain announced today that we will not be stopping in Grand Turk. He stated that there was some suspicion that the illness aboard the previous sailing may have originated from food and drinks consumed there that day. We will stop instead in Nassau, Bahamas on Saturday. I don't know what will happen on the March 17 cruise, as far as Grand Turk is concerned. Rottweiler Puppy Posted March 16, 2013 #25 Share Posted March 16, 2013 Every day you stay on board is a sea day and in port you'll have the ship mostly to yourself. Yeah I dont get it. Just dont get off the ship at ports. Why celebrate a cancelled port if you wanted another sea day? I figured port days are the best for those wholoeve "sea days" as you get a mostly empty ship.
