Please look at the Cruise Answer Book on the Princess site for appropriate dress. More than 80% of the passengers will follow the dress guidelines listed there, which include suits or tuxes for men on formal night.
caribill Posted December 7, 2013 #3 Share Posted December 7, 2013 New Year's Eve became an extra formal night on the cruise we were on, by popular passenger request to the Cruise Director. It was an extra formal evening on one Princess NYE cruise we were on. But is certainly was not due to passenger request as it was listed in the embarkation day Patter. reedprincess Posted December 7, 2013 #4 Share Posted December 7, 2013 We will be cruising over New Years. Does anybody know if formal night will be New Year's Eve and what the menus will be on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Are jackets for men required on formal night We are new to Princess NYE has been a formal night for every cruise we've been onboard for, and I expect it will be again for our next one this Christmas/NY. Lovely night - most everyone dresses up, with lots of people going all out (tuxes/great suits, cocktail dresses, some long gowns, etc) The people who dress down have always been in the minority for NYE formal nights, in our experience. Menus have been normal formal night menus - beef, chicken, pasta, seafood, lobster, etc. Varies by cruise, but always a lovely meal. If you choose to not follow the dress code guidelines for the Main Dining Room, there are other dining options, which will be festive also, and then join in the celebrations later (and yes, most people have stayed in their formal wear for the NYE celebrations - dancing, champagne waterfall, balloon drop, etc). Enjoy - it's a great time onboard!

Cruisin' Chick Posted December 8, 2013 #6 Share Posted December 8, 2013 Our last three cruises were two-weekers that have included New Years, and on each one, one of the three formal nights were on NYE. If you go to a MDR for dinner, there should be festive NY hats/tiaras either at the place settings or outside the door (on a table). Cruisin' Chick Posted December 8, 2013 #7 Share Posted December 8, 2013 It seemed that most people, including the teens my daughter was hanging with, stayed dressed for a party even after dinner: dinner menu for NYE:

Rare trbarton Posted December 8, 2013 #12 Share Posted December 8, 2013 If your limited in space you can rent a tuxedo that will be in your stateroom when you arrive. I've done this before and just packed my shoes and dark socks. Tom:)

Can't really help except to say we took many New Year's cruises on Princess when our girls were still in school and cruising with us. Sometimes, New Year's Eve was formal and other time not ... depending on the schedule. Whatever, it was always a very festive night so look forward to have a GREAT time. :D LuLu ~~~~

I know Crown Princess will be in Curacao from 2pm-10pm New Year's Eve and in Aruba first thing the next morning. Makes it a lot less likely for NYE to be a formal night as they will probably not even have fixed seating dining on an evening in port. With an early call the next morning there might not be much more on board than a countdown and champagne at midnight in the Piazza. Cruisin' Chick Posted December 9, 2013 #17 Share Posted December 9, 2013 On our three Hawaiian cruises, NYE was one of the formal nights. I'm guessing that if it can work out, Princess tries to make it a formal night as it adds to the festivities (the countdown, balloon drop, the partying).
