WINE-O and WALLIE5446

Again thanks for all your help & detailed info. Much appreciated

WALLIE5446 I feel the same way you do... Life is short... It is about having fun, seeing new places, and making new friends. Cruising is a true short cut to all that at one time.

Have a great time on your upcoming cruise... Your Roll Call sounds wonderful. Hoping that our one for Bermuda in May builds to be that way too (luckily & happily... We have some familiar fun faces on it already)

Cheers!

Thanks Mrs Sloop!

We are close to 150 now registered for the Celebrity Connections Party for our cruise! I dont think it is possible to get to know everyone in just 11 days, but we are going to give it our best shot:D They may have to let us use the BIG Theater for the M&M:eek:

Sailing on Reflection in a few weeks. We have about 75 members on our roll call (translate to roughly 150 attendees at the M&M). 67 people have signed up for the slot pull.

We've done two or three slot pulls, and I've never seen anything special for the HIGHEST pull. Money is always collected and then entered, and then people take turns pulling.

I can't recall what was done in the past, but on our pending cruise, I think the concensus was at $6 per person, meaning two pulls each on a $1 wheel of fortune machine - playing 3 lines at a time.

We have had winnings of close to $4800 and have yet to experience a fellow roll call and slot pull member from Cruise Critic become Ebenezer Scrooge.

After almost a year and 250 pages with over 4500 post from 120 or so, we have yet again a wonderful group of Cruise Critic members to get to Meet n Mingle with in a few weeks.

I guess the could be a Debbie Downer in the group:rolleyes: but we won't look for the dark side of the moon, just the wonderful reflection across the deep blue water as it slowly swooshes by the side of the ship, and softly lights the top deck as we toast with new and old friends a wonderful day on the open sea.

WOW! Lucky you! I have never made more than $20 bucks or so. But it's all for fun!

Was on the September 21/14 Summit sailing to Canada/New England.

The person who organized the slot pull kept a roll call and limited it to 40 people and posted the names of the people, using their roll names, not their actual names. We also knew ahead of time that we would be 'donating' $15.00 Thirty-eight showed up. We did not play after the CC get-together but rather on a sea day at 11:30 a.m. Ahead of time the person went to the casino and arranged for a machine and time. We played on the 'wheel of fortune' machine. Everyone gave the $15 and got five pulls on the $3. machine. When she collected the money, she went to the casino cashier and asked for large bills as putting $1-5-10 denominations would take a long time. All the money was put in the machine at one time.

They had the list of who paid, we each got to play and they crossed our names off. We were fortunate - did not win a lot of money; however got our $15 back plus $3. There was $29 left over. The group decided that rather than dividing up the $29 in change, we gave it to the roll call member who won the majority of our money. Sounded fair to us. We did not keep track of what each member won or lost, only the final total.

It was a fun event. :D

The highest pull -- everyone gets 5 pulls, $3 per pull. First player gets up and on pull #1 he wins $200, then that's the highest pull until another player wins more on any of their 5 pulls. It's easy to track.

When I run these, I don't make lists and sign ups and collect money ahead of time. I designate a time/date for the pull and announce it at the Cruise Connections Party. I have everyone meet at "Crush" which is right outside the casino and not used until that evening.

I use those 50/50 tickets. They are numbered, so easy to call the first number to the last one. Everyone who shows up pays their $15 and gets two tickets with the same number. One ticket reads "TICKET" and the other one reads 'KEEP THIS COUPON." I then take the money and get large bills from the casino cashier to feed the beast.

You present the "TICKET" when it's your turn to pull, and you present the "KEEP THIS COUPON" to pick up your winnings. I let everyone know that if you lose your ticket you don't get to pull or don't get the pay out. Kinda like no ticket, no laundry. :D

The only problem I've encountered during these Pulls is the payout and getting enough change to pay everybody. The casino is pretty stingy in giving you a bunch of $1 or $5's.

Wine-O, good idea about the tickets. We're on the Silhouette TA with you and look forward to meeting you. I'm doing the slot pull and have created a Slot Pull Sign Up Sheet which I have used previously and it worked nicely with 50-75 people. However, with over 300+ in the M&G perhaps the 50/50 ticket might be better. I guess we'll know at the M&G. I'll try to scare up some of the 50/50 tickets.

In the past on large groups doing a slot pull we have involved the casino host to help us. We pick our own machine, so he doesn't steer us to a certain machine, but helps with the payouts. Much more efficient.

It varies from casino manager to casino manager. I've had some that provided free drink coupons for each player and/or free trinkets, and others who didn't want to give you the time of day. One time they let everyone use their seapass to put the $15 towards and waived the fees.

All in all, they've all been very stingy in providing you with change to divvy up the winnings. I would recommend whoever is running it to get a bunch of $1 bills and maybe some $5's to help make change at the end.

  • 1 month later...

We did one on my last cruise. I did not organize it but did participate.

It was $10 per person. We did use the casino manager and the Wheel of Fortune game. Everyone put in their money and then all the key cards were handed to me. I "shuffled" them and they were face down so you could not read names. The casino manager would pick a card, any card and it was that person's turn to play their pull.

The rule was that the participant who had the largest payout of all the pulls got half the jack pot and the remaining 50% was split evenly among all the other participants.

One person hit a larger payout. Several had small ones. In the end the winner got around $100 and the rest of us left with $20 a head. Not a bad deal.

Couple of other points I didn't see.

First, have a list and once the slot pull starts no one else can join in. We had a situation a couple of cruises ago where a gentlemen hit a handpay (over $1200) on one spin. After that we knew we were all going to win a couple hundred dollars. Unfortunately, a couple of enterprising people who had not signed up, tried to join in. They were not allowed to by our leader.

Also, generally there is not a problem on Celebrity but make sure whatever cruiseline you are on does not issue a 1099g to the IRS if someone hits a big jackpot.

I got slammed in our Roll Call for the slot pull on a recent cruise. First of all the slot pull was held at a great time - mid afternoon on a sea day. About 1/4 of those who had signed up didn't participate because of conflicting onboard activities - totally understandable.

No one bothered to check to see if our meeting place 30 minutes prior to the pull might be inconvenient. As it turned out the bar adjacent to the casino was in use.

Because our meet and greet was abbreviated our slot pull leader was not able to make announcements or introduce himself so we just hoped for the best. He only had a list of names or screen names and no cabin numbers to use to notify us in the event of a change of time or place.

My recommendation to inform the casino staff of our adventure was rejected. I've always appreciated the assistance of the staff. Our group has always been able to pick a machine just minutes before the slot pull so no hanky panky from the casino folks. On Celebrity we have always been treated well and little gifts have often been showered on our winners.

We were on RCI with no Wheel of Fortune. One of the instigators picked a machine that just happened to be across from an on-going casino slot tournament - not good. And our 40 participants added to the congestion surrounding the aisle machine - another not so good time or location. Several suggested we move but that did not happen.

We "contributed" $15 each with 5 pulls. The organizer fed the machine after exchanging for larger bills. Following our loosing effort the cash was divided equally and the overage was returned to the machine.

I had to truly enjoy our last evening on the cruise as the machine which reportedly never paid off for any of our Roll Call slot players, gifted my slot hating DH a triple 7. It paid the final bill.

I love the idea to limit the size of the group, especially if you are using a machine in a high traffic area.

You mentioned Hanky Panky, just to make you aware, the casino people have no ability to make any changes to the machine which would effect your game. This information is readily available on the internet in numerous legitimate sources and is the #1 myth of slot machines. The machines are set at the factory and not changed for the life of the machine except for rare occasions and when the RNG is changed it is an expensive operation.

I did my first slot pull on the Reflection TA this year. It was a lot of fun - though I was at the end of a long line (? 45-60 min), it was fun to chat with people in line (and the end of the line was close to the bar).

The casino hostess had a bag of goodies for us all to choose from at the end - I will always cherish my Celebrity playing cards. :)

The slot pull leader was on his honeymoon and spent a lot of time on this slot pull, so some of us gave our $10 "winnings" to him and suggested he buy a very nice bottle of champagne for a celebration with his bride.

Thanks everyone

I will set things up with the casino manager the evening b4

And pray that we don't have any glitches but with my luck so far in the casino either I'm due for a win or maybe slot pull beginners luck

Linda

Happy sailing
