Can I arrange for princess to transfer us from the ship to the airport when I get on my cruise or do I have to arrange that before i leave on my cruise with my travel agent?

You can do it on the ship also.

Princess will do very little if you call yourself. If you have a TA, the TA must contact Princess.

When you receive your disembarkation flyer a few days before the end of the cruise it will have a place to check if you want to use Princess transfer. The cost will be charged to your onboard account. Keep in mind that your flight time will have to meet Princess' parameters.

If you don't have a travel agent and booked through princess directly, just call them back. They'll be glad to help you. We have added transfers on line and on the ship.

Yes, you can book Princess transfers on the ship. What port are you speaking about? In many ports it is easier and less expensive to use private transfers.

Its easy to do onboard.

We find no advantage in booking airport transfers before the cruise.

You don't say which port you are going in/out of. For instance, if you are going out of Fort Lauderdale and coming back there, it is much cheaper and faster to take a taxi to the Fort Lauderdale airport. It is around $15 for a taxi vs. $25 per person through Princess.

Check the approximate price from Uber or lift. I am new to using them but find that they are less than taxis and would certainly be less than the ship. If not less you would have the comfort of being in your own car to get where you have to go.

I was thinking LAX. But the airport would make a difference. I would always use ground transportation in any event. You can do that at your own time preference.

We do not book thru Princess. You have to wait till the bus is full. We take local vans and save money.

You can arrange a transfer on the ship. As others have said, they are expensive. Unless we have a very early flight, or are disembarking far from the airport, we arrange our own transportation. As a New Yorker, I can tell you there are lots of transportation options to the airport. However, LGA is under construction, leave LOTS of time to get to the airport.
