Norwegian Cruise Line Bans Smoking on Balconies

And don't players usually sit? So the only only smokers will be in seats or at a designated seat if they feel the need to stand

I would say most people stand either at the tables or the machines. Especially those who are just hanging around for a little bit, popping 10 or 15 buck in a machine.

I am sailing Nov 15 on the Getaway. Just got this in my e-mail this AM. At least its not restricted to just the casino.

 

Interesting. NCL were pretty quick with their E-mail to you. I wonder how many future passengers after 1st November have received one. Anyway, if I don't receive any e-mail, I won't know anything about the change of policy and lets see how that goes when on the ship with an E.cig

Have to agree with you.I a non smoker also,out of twelve Royal Caribbean balcony cruises i have never had a problem with a smoking neighbor.Now the casino is a problem.I would rather see smoking on the balcony. :)

I think it's just going to lead to a greater concentration of smokers in more condensed areas causing more people to complain. Great idea, on a rainy day lets pile all the smokers into the casino in the middle of the ship.

As anyone who has sailed more than once or twice on NCL Knows , the crew do not enforce most rules that are out there.. The crew takes a waaaaiit and see approach , always has.. If you think they will be going around the casino to verify whose playing or not and who may be smoking Your nuts...

Please raise your hand if you have had an NCL employee come up to you and say ," Hey you cant do that " .. Anyone? anyone ? ;)

How many times has a ship actually had a fire from a cigarette ???

I read more about stupid acts that people ( usually alcohol related) do than I have ever read about a fire caused by a cigerette.

How many times has a drunk caused accidents on board (happens everytime we have been on a ship.) throwing up all over the place in public areas, disorderly, ??? I am going to guess the drunk situations are "over looked" because NCL is making money from those drinks. I have never seen a bar on a cruise ever cut off drinks to a passenger that clearly should have been on a cruise.

Hell they cant even enforce the rules they have and they are going to add to the list.

Glad to know it is true and no longer just a rumor. Just wish it was earlier than Nov 1.

The specific changes prohibit smoking on stateroom balconies and limit smoking in the casino to players. On Norwegian Getaway and Norwegian Breakaway, smoking on The Waterfront will be permitted on the starboard side, except by the outdoor dining areas.

Will they now start checking luggage for cigs and booze???? If they consintrate on cigs then i have a better chance getting my booze on board!!!!!!

non smoker here, but we have never been bothered on our balcony from others smoking, but we have felt the amount of smoke in the casino. We feel bad for those smokers who enjoy smoking on their balconies, and we would rather have the smoke outside, than trapped in the casino.

And how about all those parents who want to put their children to bed, and sit outside with a smoke?? Leave the sleeping child to go to a designated area????

We still feel that designating some cabins on one side of the ship as smoking cabins, would of been fair to all.

I always count down the days no matter when it is. :)

This makes me very happy and I applaud NCL for this new policy. :)

But still it is one person per slot and one person per blackjack/ dealer correct?

There isn't going to be a line 6 deep waiting for the slot or the spit at the table

Point is that Ncl has said active players only and they will enforce that

Why? Because the majority of cruisers will expect it to be enforced

Ncl is purposely saying do not think you are going to use the casino to just smoke. You are going to gamble or not be there

The fact that you can't see how it can is pretty much irrelevant and the health effects of the nicotine and other substances contained in e-cigarettes is still the subject of vigorous debate. Like it or not, there is a clear move among almost all of the major lines to ban or restrict the use of both cigarettes and e-cigarettes.

Glycerin and vanilla, no nicotine That's it.

That's an easy answer - the one breaking the rules. They always do especially with an unenforceable rule like this. There is no way you can distinguish between a player and a non-player in a packed casino. As someone else said, they can sit and put 10 cents in a penny machine and then sit there while they enjoy their smoke. They're playing and there isn't a damn thing anyone can say to prove otherwise.

 

The thing that irks me with these new rules is the higher than thou smoke police with their halos all pretending that they're going to race to get a balcony. Hogwash. The other thing that gets my goat is the cruise line pretending they care about the health and well being of their guests AND EMPLOYEES. If they gave a rat's behind about their employees they wouldn't subject them to hour after hour of second hand smoke in a packed casino that now is going to be even worse. They'd ban it down there and allow it in a well ventilated upper deck area. They didn't ban it in the casino because $$$ trumps their own employee's well being so before we go all gaga praising and hugging NCL, lets not fool ourselves here. Its all about money and only money. Their employees on their ships are replaceable with ease and they know it. Will the day some that smoke free ships rule the day? Maybe but that day is a long way off and it will be done only when they feel they stand to lose money and business by not going that route and not one minute before.

There is no liquid residue in e-cigs with a screw in cartrige to spill ..it's in and contained within the cartrige....no residue to spill.

Again you can vape and vape within your cabin until the cows come home and immediately open you door....no smoke, no residue no odor( except for the cows)

I use a PV with a tank and a cartomizer. I spill a little bit of e-liquid every time I fill my tank

I doubt someone who is only in the casino to smoke is going to sit there all day. I don't smoke, but if its a machine I want to play I can wait it out. It doesn't take that long to smoke a cigarette. It may be less of a problem than you think.

Considering Carnival found it completely unenforcable I know it will be less of a problem then I think

Well I have to assume now that the cigs have been banned . NCL will have the foresight to place spittoons around the ship for the people that switch to the unregulated chewing tobacco ... MMMmmm could get ugly ..

An excellent idea...Last time I checked they didn't have a no spitting on the balcony rule. I can just imagine the "blowback" from my using snuff and spitting juice into the wind on my balcony for my ANTSZ neighbors next door LOL

Great news to hear. I'm happy that the e-cigs are included. I'm cruising in October and will miss the Nov. 1st date but I'll get to enjoy it the next time.

Forget fairness. This is all about safety and the cruiselines being forced to put these rules in place

The peripheral benefit, which is what the big debate is all about anyway, is that the majority of cruisers do not smoke and don't want to be subjected to it

Ships are doing it because they are required to... Non smokers are just benefitting bystanders... Just like the smokers although apparantly not benefitting from it. Or maybe they are.

I don't know what cruises you have been on but this is nothing close to the experiences that I have had on-board.
