Things YOU DO NOT KNOW about the YC2 cabins !

A few weeks ago there was a discussion here about the preference between a YC1 and YC2 cabin. I had booked a YC2 because of the square footage. The tradeoff being there was no balcony and not on the 15th deck (yacht club). Some were adament about not getting the YC2 for those reasons.

Well, after experiencing our cabin and visiting a YC1 of people we met onboard.....there are much more differences....

When you first enter the YC2.....

to the right is the bathroom....main differences...the shower is seperate from the tub with an overhead shower panel and lots of body jets. The tub is the nicest I have seen at sea. There are 2 sinks. Counter twice the size.

...to the left of the main entry is a 3 door closet. behind 2 doors are hangers. The third has 6 drawers and 2 shelves, a safe and hair dryer.

....continuiing forward you are in the living room with a sofa bed, 2 large stuffed chairs, a coffee table and 2 very large end tables with 2 drawers each.

On the wall is a 40in TV mounted over a very large cradenza that has 3 doors. The refrigerator and wii are in there.

....on either end of the living room are very heavy (blocks sound) pocket doors that connect to the bedroom. Bed,2 nightstands with 2 drawers each. Again, there is a large TV (30in) mounted on the wall over a large credenza. That has 3 doors which contain drawers and shelves. Unlike the YC1...which only has one smaller TV, mounted to the side of the room....this TV is mounted straight ahead of the bed for easy viewing....as an insomniac, I liked that.

....off to the side of the bedoom(not in the bedroom) is a vanity area with large mirror,a counter with 2 drawers, another hair dryer,a seat and a full length mirror on the wall.

....off to the side of that is a gigantic walkin closet with a door you can shut.It has 7 shelves, 6 drawers, another safe and 2 other small pieces of furniture with 2 shelves each. Lots of hanger space.

...the windows going across the badroom and living room are basically wall to wall, floor to ceiling. The view spectacular. One person said they fely like they were in a luxury, ocean front condo looking out.

There were no 'ship lights' outside the windows so I left the curtains open at night. You could awake to the sunrise. Also was a lighting storm in the middle of the night. Spectacular to watch from bed !

So, when you go back and look at the YC1and 2 (you tube ?) you will seen the differences are more than you thought.

as far as location....the 12th deck was not that big a deal for us. People with mobility problems would definitely prefer the 15th deck for the easy access to the Topsail lounge which is fantastic.

When we booked, there was only $100. difference between the 2 catagories. I would take the same room again in a heartbeat !

Almost forgot.....each room had its own thermostat which worked quite well.

...don't know if all the ships are the same.

Actually we had 12001. There are only 3 yc2 rooms on the ship. Luckily, we are flexible about when we go so I searched for when I could get this room.

This is the only non connecting one. I have always heard there can be a bit more noise with connecting ones plus you will lose something ( ? Furniture ?) where they put the connecting door. The middle yc2 is smaller than the 2 outside ones.

Our room was actually bigger than advertised. My husband has been a flooring contractor for 30 years and said the square footage was over 600sq ft. You felt like you were in an apartment .

There is NO balcony. There is a narrow walkway in front for crew if maintenance is needed but we never saw anyone out there. At about dawn, a sprinkler system hit the windows so they were always incredibly clean.

Although I am usually adamant about having a balcony.....I truly did not miss it. Coffee or a cocktail in your large living room is amazing.

A few decks straight above is the Yacht Club pool area.

It is incredibly large with many lounge chairs (nicer than on the rest of the ship).

That became my 'balcony' area. The food up there is fantastic. there is a full (free) bar up there. I was amazed how big the area was. I think if every single yacht club person was there at the same time....there would be lounge chairs to spare.

I resemble that remark. ;)

Actually adamant is not quite true for me but the size of the room is a huge plus. Did you take pictures? I'm sure the room is great and really debated it, but the idea of being in the YC area (like an oasis to escape, especially at Christmas when the rest of the ship is packed), is also appealling. Deck 15 will have the four main places we will likely be or going to be, cabin, topsail lounge, Kids club, Le Muse.

The balcony is the least important item. that said the YC2 sound great! and I am sure we would make do with all that room. ;) :D

Shippy, how many were in your party? I have read these are for at least 3 people. Would really like to try the one you were in but there is only 2 of us.

there were only the 2 of us. We had no problem booking.

.....I think it is on YouTube.

I know I saw a short video on some site before we left. I decided to do a detailed blog because the pictures do not do the room justice.

Being that we were directly under the yacht club area...those couple of decks did not make much difference.

BUT........you will be a bit surprised when you discover where LeMuse is.

This is a VERY LARGE ship. LeMuse is clear across the other end....quite a hike.....although we managed it every meal. :0)

Well on those days I don't want to hike I will just turn left out of my lowly YC1 cabin ;) on deck 15 and walk a few feet to the topsail for tea or snacks or up just 2 decks to the One bar and eat. :D

So did the YC spoil you? and do you think you would have had as much fun not in the YC?

I was concerned about the butler service on deck 12 because there are only the three YC2 rooms.

Service was amazing....no problem at all.

the cabins on deck 15 are all 1 room.

I will not sail that ship again without being in the yacht club.

When we first booked , I thought I would spend half the time in the main dining room as we like to dine at a large table with others.

the tables in LeMuse are fairly close together and we wound up visiting with other people there. The service was amazing. Someone pouring your water, serving you hot breads, topping off your wine when you only drank half an inch. AND THE FOOD...different from the main dining room. Best steaks I ever had.....ditto for the lobster....I had doubles.

The pool area....always quite.... The Topsail lounge! always open with free cocktails and fabulous snacks....

Did I mention they refill your minbar in your cabin TWICE a day.....for both snacks and alcohol . It is like people say,do not ever book a balcony because you could never go back to an outside room. Once you have booked the Yacht Club.....your hooked.

I think it would cost you 5 times as much on any other cruise line and even then I doubt you would get as much...

Did you guess....I never made it to the main dining room....

I cannot afford it ! I paid $1550. Per person for the YC2 cabin.

I think it would be at least double that for the Haven.

I am currently checking for cabin 12001 again for next Spring. :0)

Yeah I hear that...

for Christmas the Haven is $4000 to $10,000 more (depending on ship and type of room) than the YC for my family of 4.

Thanks for all the information Shippy. One question: everyone says the snacks in the Top Sail are great but never give us an idea of what they are. Also, what kind of food is available at the OnePool area?

The thing that impressed me most in the topsail was at the back of the back table of the 'snacks'. In the morning was different dried fruits but later in the day, bowls of nuts. Not mixed together, just big bowls of walnuts, pistachios ,macadamias, etc. I always took a small bowl back to the cabin everyday.

in the morning they had cold cereals ,delicious pastry, fabulous mini cinnamon rolls, assorted fresh fruits, cottage cheese, some fish things and more I cannot remember .

In the lunch time they switched the pastry for assorted mini sandwiches, fruit tarts, etc.

Aways assorted cheeses. cannot remember dinner stuff.

But there was always food there. there had been some discussion if you could take food or drinks out of the lounge . No Problem. did it all the time. Your mini bar has hard liquor, sodas and beer but no wine. my husband was always bringing a glass of wine out.

the OnePool area has a small buffet but the food is good. One afternoon they had great baked salmon. there is a salad bar & some other cooked food. breakfast foods in the morning.

That is a really relaxing place to go. Aside from tons of lounge chairs, they have nice tables and chairs to sit at. there is a full bar there and they will bring you drinks to the table.

they would also periodically come by the table with the most decadent pastries .

Did you get off the ship when it went to Great Stirrup Cay? If so did you have to pay for drinks there or were they included in the Yacht Club fee.

Thanks in advance

Judith

That is Norwegian Cruise lines island. we had been there years before and I remember it as being VERY rocky by the water. No small rocks but big rocks. I remember not being comfortable trying to maneuver myself over them even with water shoes on so we just stayed on the ship.

it was my understanding that you would have pay for any drinks there.

Snippy, I have just read your comments out to my husband and he is getting VERY excited about our first cruise. It was an effort to convince him of the value of paying extra for yacht club but now he's convinced. Thank you! :)

Yacht Club for your first cruise? Uh oh. ;)

We cruise about 3 times a year on various cruise lines. We started decades ago with cabins that had port holes and worked our way up. I usually get a mini suite...that is what amazed me about the yacht club....we paid the same price for our YC cabin as the mini suite we have held on the Oasis of theSeas this summer.

Anyway, on rare occasions we have had a cabin with a butler. We never used the butler services before but on the Yacht club! it is hard to avoid.

It starts on the dock where they meet you outside and take your luggage and escort you to you special lounge to wait and check in. You are then escorted to your room. One service I really appreciated was at the end. we always do the 'walk your own luggage' off the ship because if you are not off first....customs can back up. sometimes it is very hard to maneuver off & get into an elevator fighting through everyone else doing this.

You all meet in the Topsail lounge and the butlers escort you out....blocking off the elevators for your use.

but here are 2 anal butler story's you may enjoy. :0)

We were having lunch in LeMuse when. I heard a lady behind me say to the waiter....

I would like to order this but feel that I may only eat half of it. can I take the rest back to my cabin ? The waiter replied.......oh no madam...Your butler will bring the leftovers to your cabin.

This one I thought a bit gross......there is a great laundry deal. $25. For 20 pieces of laundry. the great part about it is that you do not have to send your items all at once. I sent 3 the first time, 4 the next and on the last day to send out...I sent out more since I had not used my allotment. Unlike most laundry services on ships where everything just comes back folded, everything was hung on hangers....wrinkle free.

Anyway, I was unsure how to use the service. The form on the desk said something like...take this paper to guest services. In the closet was a form where you could itemize your clothes......you know, like 1 pair of pajamas, 2 jeans, etc.

I wanted to do it correctly so I called to make sure. the reply was......oh no, ....you are in the yacht club....just leave the form on your bed and put your clothes in the bag. I asked if I should be using the form in the closet......oh no! madam....your butler will go through your bag and itemize and keep track of the items......

I must say that did effect the type of clothes I put in the bag. :0)
