johnnie1uk Posted September 27, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 27, 2012 In general, how sound proof are interior cabins, from the corridor or adjoining cabins?
Colorado Kat Posted September 27, 2012 #2 Share Posted September 27, 2012 I have had no problems with sound coming from the outside corridors. Adjoining cabins, however, are a different story. The doors are really not very soundproof. We were unfortunate enough to have very noisy people next to us. They fought a lot, and did other extremely noisy things as well. Enough to wake me from a sound sleep, and I am a very heavy sleeper. If you can avoid connecting cabins with strangers, do so.

Rare Keith1010 Posted September 27, 2012 #4 Share Posted September 27, 2012 Some of this can vary by cruise ship. If you have a specific cruise ship in mind I would post this on the cruise line board for that cruise. Keith
cb at sea Posted September 27, 2012 #5 Share Posted September 27, 2012 Unfortunately, you WILL hear loud folks as they pass your door. You are likely to hear more from the hallway, than from above, below or beside you.
CapeCodCruiser Posted September 27, 2012 #6 Share Posted September 27, 2012 We have had neighbors who fought a LOT - not very fun - one night we called guest services to ask them to intervene. They were louder than any hall noise.
johnnie1uk Posted September 27, 2012 Author #7 Share Posted September 27, 2012 Unfortunately the the cruise line (iberocruceros)do not have a board yet, nor does the ship, she used to be the Carnival Celebration
kitty9 Posted September 27, 2012 #8 Share Posted September 27, 2012 Cabins are not very soundproof, especially on older ships, like the Celebration. I've heard people talking in the room next door, children playing and babies crying.
dorisis Posted September 28, 2012 #9 Share Posted September 28, 2012 Ear plugs don't take up much luggage space and can be used in case of noise from other cabins and the hall. ~Doris~
Captain Caribbean Kid Posted September 29, 2012 #10 Share Posted September 29, 2012 Ear plugs don't take up much luggage space and can be used in case of noise from other cabins and the hall. Ditto that, I'm a light sleeper and all of the ships I've been on have had enough noise to wake me up, (same for hotel rooms). Soft, squeezable, foam ear plugs will work wonders! chipq Posted September 30, 2012 #12 Share Posted September 30, 2012 Thanks, i was thinking about sounds from us as well:o It could be worse. You could be next to a wise guy like me who applauds when 'your noise' has finished. It could ruin other private moments through the remainder of the cruise. http://luv2cruise.blogspot.com
Rare Crew News Posted September 30, 2012 #13 Share Posted September 30, 2012 Since I have traveled a lot over the past years, I take a MARPAC "white noise" machine for sleeping. It maintains a constant sound no matter where you are attempting to sleep. It failed only once when the folks in the next room were attending a high school band competition and thought that practicing would be best done at 2:00 AM. For cruise purposes, it is perfect. Prices range from $50 - $130. The more expensive ones have seagulls, waterfalls, rain, etc add-ons.

Steviewonder1 Posted October 8, 2012 #15 Share Posted October 8, 2012 There are "Apps" for smart phones that will do soothing sounds to go to sleep and stay asleep. They are only a couple of bucks each such as SleepMachine for the iPhone. They include the ability to choose what types of sounds and how many you want mixed together at what level and timers to turn them off after X amount of time. They do work with the phone in Airplane Mode which it should be when on any ship not in port.
Jimnbigd Posted October 8, 2012 #16 Share Posted October 8, 2012 Mostly I hear cabin doors when they slam shut. I never hear anyone talking or the TV from the cabins next door. If you have a public area above or below you, you might hear some noise.

Just do not book under the jogging track or basketball courts, friends did hear some "noise"/pounding on their deck a few times :D
Harry and Lucille Posted October 9, 2012 #18 Share Posted October 9, 2012 Methinks that the cruise lines have addressed this problem. On our first cruise, we had a newly wed couple next door. Need I say more??? At least they didn't turn the ship upside down. Not that they didn't try.
headhunterke Posted October 9, 2012 #19 Share Posted October 9, 2012 The ship does have stabilisation, so that's maybe why it didn't roll over. Imagine what would've happened if it hadn't ;p
spunkyhungry Posted October 9, 2012 #20 Share Posted October 9, 2012 On my last cruise, I had trouble sleeping sometimes because I could hear the people next door snoring or watching tv. Fortunately, I discovered that if I laid on my side, I could hear the hum of the engine below me, and this helped drown out the other noises and helped me fall asleep. If you have a public area above or below you, you might hear some noise. Balcony cabins can actually get noise from loud talkers having their early morning coffee out on the balcony. We were in a suite and had this. Also I hear connecting room showers. I think the most noise comes from inconsiderate people coming down the hallways. headhunterke Posted October 9, 2012 #23 Share Posted October 9, 2012 I never wake up by noise, or it has to be really, really loud. When I cruised with my colleagues, we shared a stateroom with 2 people. Whenever my roommate took a shower (he's kind of an early riser and I'm not) I just slept through it. One morning when they asked who woke up because of some loud teens in the hallway, everyone raised their hands, but me. If there's going to be an emergency when I'm asleep, I really really hope I'll hear the alarm :p
