Kingofcool1947 Posted March 5, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 5, 2015 (edited) Have booked a cruise on CB out of Houston. Princess wants to charge $48 for round trip (?) transportation pre and post cruise. Hobby Airport TX to the cruise port. Is it a good deal? What other transportation options are available and approximate fare? Houston Tourist Association says taxi to cruise port is around $100 fare. Also, considering flying in to Houston a few days earlier so might want to stay in the tourist area of Houston, then go to cruise port from the hotel. Recommendations? Thanks. Edited March 5, 2015 by Kingofcool1947
cruzsnooze Posted March 5, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 5, 2015 Is this per person or for 2 people and is it round trip or one way?
Kingofcool1947 Posted March 5, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted March 5, 2015 (edited) Princess put a charge of $48 per person in my booking. I am assuming it is a roundtrip ticket for one person. But, I will check with Princess. Sounds like a pretty good deal compared to a $100 taxi. Know if there is availabe shuttle service? Cheaper than a taxi? Thanks. caribill Posted March 5, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 5, 2015 $24 each way is about the best you can do.
greenie082756 Posted March 5, 2015 #5 Share Posted March 5, 2015 DH and I did the princess transfer in LA and it went quite well. Because we arrived (day of cruise departure) @ 8 am we were taken to a hotel nearby to wait until we could board. Coffee and donuts were there and also they had us fill out some pre-boarding paperwork. We were so impressed that we bought it again for the SF airport we are doing this August. We found it was quit relaxing to know that you had nothing to worry about once on the bus.:) Next stop, cruise ship! Yeeeeeeeeehaa:eek:

Its about one of the only ports in the US where I would do the transfer. Just did it 3 weeks ago and man its a long way from IAH where I flew into. I flew back from Hobby which is a little closer but still a good drive. It went like clockwork even doing a walkoff. :) Well worth it to me. pablo222 Posted March 5, 2015 #7 Share Posted March 5, 2015 Have booked a cruise on CB out of Houston. Princess wants to charge $48 for round trip (?) transportation pre and post cruise. Hobby Airport TX to the cruise port. Is it a good deal? I did this last week -- to Hobby -- it was $79 on the meter in the cab. I think I was gouged, but how to argue? On the other hand, I wait zero minutes to leave.

Most taxi companies in Houston give a 10% discount to seniors, but you have to ask for it.

I appreciate Houston is great if you live in the area, but the limited itinerary(s), and the fog issues -- to me, if one is flying, south florida is a better choice. Mackenzie1 Posted March 8, 2015 #10 Share Posted March 8, 2015 Does anyone know if we can book a Princess transfer while on the ship? The reason I ask is that I would like to delay making a decision between transferring directly to Heathrow airport after disembarking at Southampton this summer from a Norwegian cruise, or taking a tour of Stonehenge after disembarkation on the way back to Heathrow. The final deposit is due at the end of March, so I don't want to miss out on the chance to take a Princess transfer to Heathrow directly from the ship if we need to make our decision by the time final payment is due. Thanks!
caribill Posted March 8, 2015 #11 Share Posted March 8, 2015 Does anyone know if we can book a Princess transfer while on the ship? A Princess xfer can usually be purchased on the ship. Try to do it in the first days of the cruise in case there is enough demand that fills up all the available buses.

pablo222 Posted March 8, 2015 #13 Share Posted March 8, 2015 A Princess xfer can usually be purchased on the ship. When I was on Emerald, which was about 4 hours late because of fog, one of the passengers I was speaking with regretted purchasing the transfers in advance, because if she had any chance of making her flight, she needed to be among the first off the ship, and into a cab. She was basically forced to throw away the transfers. I wonder if that might be collectable from travel insurance? I had to cancel one flight and book another. It was on southwest, the the ticket cost is a credit, but I also wonder if that might be covered by travel insurance. I was so happy to be on a plane leaving, I would have paid double for the flight, anyway.
likeadisguise Posted March 8, 2015 #14 Share Posted March 8, 2015 Generally if you pre-purchase a transfer and then can't use it because of a situation like the ship coming in late, Princess will refund that cost if you contact them after the cruise (you will have to ask, it won't happen automatically). Thank you, likeadisguise. I'm wondering if Princess has changed their policy, though, because it states on the transfers page that they are non-refundable. It is an expense caused by travel delays, which may be covered. Edited March 8, 2015 by Mackenzie1

That is like shore excursions being non-refundable after a deadline, but if conditions do not allow the shore excursion to take place, the cost is refunded. For example, if you become sick, a note from the ship's medical department will get the excursion money refunded.
