notalandlover Posted April 23, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 23, 2016 I want to try flying fish. In nov our cruise stops in Grand Cayman, Belize, Costa Maya and Cozumel. Does anyone know of a place that serve this dish. Ive searched the net without any luck. The only place I can find where this is served is Barbados. Thanks

somethingfun9345 Posted May 2, 2016 #4 Share Posted May 2, 2016 Yeah, only know Barbados as well, but it's really good. Deserves to be tried :)
OCruisers Posted May 2, 2016 #5 Share Posted May 2, 2016 Flying Fish is the national dish of Barbados. The flying fish sandwiches are called "cutters" and are delicious! :D
Langley Cruisers Posted May 2, 2016 #6 Share Posted May 2, 2016 OP, I did not have any hits either. Seems it is caught and served mainly in Barbados and you might be out of luck on that one, sorry. Maybe next cruise try a Southern Caribbean itinerary and you can port at Bridgetown, Barbados. :)
OCruisers Posted May 2, 2016 #7 Share Posted May 2, 2016 While it's not Flying Fish, in Grand Cayman the Paradise Bar & Grill does make a wonderful fish sandwich. :)
Rare Crew News Posted May 9, 2016 #8 Share Posted May 9, 2016 (edited) We had a guest chef on the HAL Ms Oosterdam last Nov who owns the Flying Fish Restaurant on Grand Bahama. Tim Tibbets, owner/chef, was amazing and his Restaurant is a James Beard Award recipient. He strongly recommends his flying fish burger. Nice website, too. What didn't you like? The whole fish in the sandwich, kind of thing? :D Curious, as it is one of my DH's favorite meals since he grew up in St. Lucia, next to Barblados. A little too fishy tasting and I kept tasting it for hours...I guess I was expecting something different maybe more white type fish but mine was very dark with a lot of silver through it (the only way for me to explain it...sorry)...and the pepper sauce on the table......too hot for my simple taste...but glad I tried it anyway ;)

As for the sauce, I like spicy but it doesn't like me! Edited June 5, 2016 by Bookish Angel
