New ship in 2016 - Koningsdam

We also would love to have a ship in the Caribbean for 12 months.

We are so tired of being limited to just a few months of Caribbean cruising.

We started sailing the Caribbean any time of the year when the "S" and "R" ships were joining the fleet. They spent their Inaugural summers (if not more) as new ships and DH and I loved b-to-b summer cruises. We got to sail the new ships and the ports weren't crowded. :) I really miss them.

We spent many summers on the ships as well. Some times 2 summer cruises.

Good chance we were aboard the same sailings at one point or another. :) There was only one ship each summer in the Caribbean, we were doing at least two cruises and you were doing two or four..... only so many sailings! :)

  • 3 weeks later...
I doubt a specialty restaurant on that deck, just because of the walking traffic, but perhaps a food/snack/coffee venue of some sort. What I have in mind would be something like Cafe al Bacio on Celebrity. Beautiful little space but very casual so people walking by outside isn't a detractor.

Since that would clearly be deck 3 and if we presume based on the stateroom locations they would still have the atrium on Decks 1-3 maybe something like a Dutch spin on the Explorations Cafe would be nice for the top of the Atrium... The Explorations Cafe is fine, but it's a little too Starbucks/Borders and we all know how that went for Borders. Adding in a Dutch component can make it more unique. As long as they still have espresso and stroopwaffels though I'll be happy... But yes, clearly there's just a lot of "what if's" in that :)

I know that when Nieuw Amsterdam was in the yard and they decided to take out the Atrium Bar, the Hotel Director had told me on a cruise we took on the ship they had wanted to see a coffee shop there in the atrium but it was too late as they had already approved all the blueprints and plans with the empty space there. Maybe they listened on the new ship.

I have no idea what else will be on deck 3 but I am 99.9% sure the casino will be on that deck.

You're right. I know this because the deck plans were finally placed on the HAL website. Too much to see to try and post it all but highly impressed. Assuming they'll be posting more later today (11/12) if they've placed it in their website in the middle of the night

I found out about it on a Club 21 VIP cruise in late August. It's about time I got something right...LOL. Where do you see the new ship on the HAL site? After a little digging I found it...thanks for the info!

Several new deck names....very interesting! A New York Deli...Apparently another specialty restaurant near the Pinnacle Grill.

Only one penthouse suite...interesting!

Someone screwed up at HAL, methinks! The PDFs aren't there and after Deck 1 nothing shows up now and you get Amsterdam plans.

But the musical theme we were told about in September on Rotterdam appears to be indeed a major player. I also see family stateroom categories.

Here is the deck rundown, starting with Deck 1 and running up:

Main

Plaza

Promenade

Beethoven

Gershwin

Mozart

Schubert

Navigation

Lido

Panorama

Sun

Observation

There IS a full promenade. From the site (emphasis mine):

A nautical tradition, our teak Promenade deck encircles the ship, offering spectacular views in every direction—the perfect place for a brisk run, an after-dinner stroll or simply relaxing in the sun on a classic teak lounge chair.

That would be my guess as well sppunk. Can't blame them for creating an additional revenue stream. Its not what I would spend additional $$ on but some love it.

I do like the 3 story atrium and that the piano bar is not located across from the casino but on the floor above.

Also of note the Magrodome will be, for the first time, two levels. The upper level is "a new concept for the brand." I'm guessing that's all cabanas/private deck area.

Doubtful. Look at the deck plans. You can see the cabanas on the lower level port side

Piano bar looks as though it will have dueling pianos. Anyone else notice that? And it and ocean bar are part of mix
