MMR555 Posted July 29, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 29, 2015 This will be our first cruise on the Escape - December 5th. What are the dining options when you first board? Thanks! Martha
cliffd64 Posted July 29, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 29, 2015 Ship staff will try to usher you to the buffet, but you actually have other options. One of the MDR's will be open (Taste and/or Savor) for sit-down lunches. O'Sheehan's would also be open.
LrgPizza Posted July 29, 2015 #3 Share Posted July 29, 2015 No one knows for sure since the ship hasn't sailed yet, but Margaritaville might be open. The comparable restaurant on Getaway (Flamingo Grill) is always open for lunch on embarkation, so maybe this one will be, too.

rvsullivan Posted July 30, 2015 #5 Share Posted July 30, 2015 Would Cagney's be open for lunch on embarkation day? On Escape it will be the Haven restaurant won't it? The suites will have a venue open, on ships with no Haven, then Cagney's will be open.

The buffet can be a madhouse, depending on what time you actually board the ship. I will say, however, the food in the buffet is outstanding the first day. dna529 Posted July 30, 2015 #8 Share Posted July 30, 2015 We went straight to O Sheehan 's on the Getaway. It was not crowded and very relaxing!
cruzsnooze Posted July 30, 2015 #9 Share Posted July 30, 2015 (edited) Cagney's is only open for dinner. Then how come we had breakfast AND lunch there every day? Cagney's makes a very good Ruben sandwich BTW. Yes we were in a suite. Edited July 30, 2015 by cruzsnooze

Cagney's makes a very good Ruben sandwich BTW. Yes we were in a suite. How come? Because you were in a suite that didn't have a dedicated Haven restaurant. Furthermore, I guarantee you that you didn't eat in Cagney's for lunch on Escape, which was the question in this thread. For what it's worth, that isn't "Cagney's" being open for lunch for suite guests. That menu has nothing to do with Cagney's menu. It's a separate thing using that space on some ships. cliffd64 Posted July 30, 2015 #12 Share Posted July 30, 2015 Would Cagney's be open for lunch on embarkation day? Cagney's does not serve lunch on the larger ships for suite passengers. They have a Haven restaurant if they are in the Haven. That will be open. I assumed that the OP was in a non-Haven cabin.

You werent on Breakaway or Getaway, were you? If you were on another ship, that would be different. The OP is referring to Escape.

Presbycruiser Posted August 21, 2015 #19 Share Posted August 21, 2015 Why does the crew try to shuffle you to the buffet when there are other options open?

Travelling2Some Posted August 21, 2015 #21 Share Posted August 21, 2015 Why does the crew try to shuffle you to the buffet when there are other options open? I've wondered why they do this too. The can be pretty insistent about it too! A crew member went so far as to assure me that the main dining room was closed. I went that way anyway (he was not happy to let me pass) and, of course it was open. I think it's very curious that they do this and wonder what the motivation is. If they truly don't want people to use the MDR why don't they simply close it?

Those brave few that insist on going to the MDR will be counted on to lead groups of people to the life boats in case something happens to the ship. bonvoyagie Posted August 22, 2015 #24 Share Posted August 22, 2015 (edited) It has been my experience that if you are in a suite you will be told where the dining venue is and usually given an escort there. There are three scenarios for suites: Ships with a Haven Restaurant(ie Epic, 'Away, 'Away+) - ALL suite guests eat there. Ships with Haven but no Haven Restaurant (ie Jewel Class)- suite guests eat in Cagney's/Modernaro. Ships with no Haven (ie Dawn, Star, Sun etc) - suite guests eat in Cagney's/Modernaro. VIP guests are also given this perk Edited August 22, 2015 by bonvoyagie
