mrizer7773 Posted October 28, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 28, 2016 Family of four, two being children 14 and 8, will be in Nassau for the first time in early January. From the looks of what I've read, the weather is too chilly for a beach day...? Any experienced winter travelers that have been to Nassau around to give ideas? Thanks! The air temp will be pleasant, but the water may be chilly. Consider getting a day pass for a hotel with a heated pool to play it safe.
OCruisers Posted October 28, 2016 #3 Share Posted October 28, 2016 We've had port stops in Nassau in January many times over the years and the water has always been quite chilly. Best to find something non water related to do. ;)

hammer76 Posted October 30, 2016 #5 Share Posted October 30, 2016 I've been to Nassau several times in February and have had no problems snorkeling. The water was described to me by the guide as being brisk.
mrizer7773 Posted October 30, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted October 30, 2016 (edited) I read of normal January water temperatures in the low 70s. Not sure that's warm enough. :) Edited October 30, 2016 by mrizer7773
Rare CruisinCrow Posted October 31, 2016 #7 Share Posted October 31, 2016 I read of normal January water temperatures in the low 70s. Not sure that's warm enough. :) It's definitely not warm enough for me, a wimpy Floridian. But you're from Indiana. :)
navybankerteacher Posted November 3, 2016 #8 Share Posted November 3, 2016 Air temps in Bahamas in January - February can range from 50 to high 70's. Water temps usually about 70 -- which is fine for anyone who has summered on Cape Cod , but not for Florida types who won't go near the water until late May or after September. mpcaruth Posted November 18, 2016 #9 Share Posted November 18, 2016 We have been to the Bahamas a few times in January. The water temp is in the low 70's... too cold for me, but good enough for the kids. Swimming in the dead of winter was awesome for them! We went to Atlantis Waterpark one January and the air temperature was low 70's, and sunny. However, the park's water temp seemed warmer, and we had a great day at the park! I suspect resorts/hotels with pools will have warm temps too. You could consider a day pass at a hotel with a pool that also includes beach access. That way, if the beach is too cold, your kids could hit the pool. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Ku4anci Posted November 21, 2016 #11 Share Posted November 21, 2016 Water temps are okay - air temps will be about 80-81. Perfect beach weather.
Tee & Chilli Posted December 18, 2016 #12 Share Posted December 18, 2016 Why spend money to use a pool when you're already paid for the ship's pool?
primadonut Posted December 25, 2016 #13 Share Posted December 25, 2016 We did the Balmoral Island beach break in mid January last time I was there...the water was totally fine. not warm like St Thomas but my husband was snorkeling and my kids were in the water for hours. The water isn't warm but it feels refreshing after the heat of the sun :-)
monctonguy Posted December 28, 2016 #14 Share Posted December 28, 2016 I have been there a few times in Jan and it was always nice enough for a "beach" day.....I have been in the water too pretty much each time....it was cool but still enjoyable. I would still make plans for your day in Nassau as a "summer" day.......
JWellso Posted December 28, 2016 #15 Share Posted December 28, 2016 I read of normal January water temperatures in the low 70s. Not sure that's warm enough. :) Depending on the air temp, it should be alright to swim. This Floridian swims in our spring rivers, which stay at 72 degrees year round, so the low 70's water temps are going to be nice and refreshing. My grand kids are going with us in January and they have their snorkel gear ready. Now, to find some nice reefs for these 7 and 4 year olds to explore. Anyone have any suggestions? mark290 Posted January 11, 2017 #16 Share Posted January 11, 2017 Water temps are okay - air temps will be about 80-81. Perfect beach weather. Don't know where you got your crystal ball but the average HIGH in January is 77. Much greater chance of it being low 70's than low 80's.
