Crown/Emerald/Ruby - Inside R403, R407, R507, R508, R514, R515

When I was booking our cruise back in the summer, I asked a Princess rep about these six Inside cabins on Riviera. They are oriented 90 degrees to virutally all other cabins. And they appear larger on the deck plan.

The rep was more than positive that that was simply a function of print fonts and spacing and that those six cabins were indeed the same size as other Insides. I had the impression he has answered this question before.

I read in another thread where a cruiser always books those because they are bigger. My question is did this person think they were bigger from the deck plan and has not been in any other Inside to compare.

I have not seen these cabins mentioned and the regulars know that there have been numerous discussions about cabin locations, sizes and balcony types.

So does anyone know for sure if these Insides are any different in overall size or are they simply turned sideways?

I do intend to inquire about them at the Purser's desk next week when we are on the RUBY, but it is too late now of course to swap.

The orientation of the rooms means the layout is different than the standard inside. The sideways rooms enter directly into the bedroom, with an open dressing area and closets with doors off to the side adjacent to the bathroom. The standard rooms enter into a short hallway/entry with a closet area across from the bathroom before you enter the bedroom. I am not sure if the actual square footage is that much different, but the layout certainly makes it feel more open and larger.

I can't answer for the Crown/Emerald/Ruby, but those cabins on the Diamond/Sapphire are definitely larger, and better arranged. Here are some pictures of A506 on Diamond Princess:

There is a little privacy area behind the end cupboard, which leads to the bathroom.

In contrast, here is a standard inside (A736)

Essiesmom - Thanks. I know the std cabins, but your pics of the "sideways" version are very helpful. I am very sure Princess doesn't bother to draw that floor plan in their literature (electronic or hardcopy).

It will be interesting to hear what some others who have been on Ruby, for example, say. I think if we like Inside next week and decide to do it again, I might try for one of those as the layout is interesting. The only drawback I see is my late night returns from the casino will shed less light on the bed with the standard layout.

Thanks again for the pics.

I booked one of these for my next cruise - but then the prices went way down for every inside category except II. So I changed cabins. I'm still curious about them - and want to look at one when we get on the ship if the cabin doors are still open, or when we disembark.

We're doing B2B on the Emerald in R515 beginning Sunday. We've done several cruises in standard insides on those ships. I'll post back to let you know our thoughts of one vs. the others.

Thanks -super. We are on RUBY this Sunday as well and as I said above, I am going to inquire at Pursers desk about them.

BTW, you lucky dog - you get Pier 2 and RUBY is way down at 29.

If you had to chose betweeen one of those cabins and an obstructed ocean view which would you chose?? only differance for sailing im looking at is $15 more PP for a gty "G".

I really like natural light, however those cabins look to be almost the size of a mini suite!!

any help would be appreciated.

I just stayed in cabin R515 on the Caribbean Princess a few weeks ago. The cabin was quite, location was perfect mid ship, Bryan was my cabin stewart and he was wonderful. Lots of storage and the cabin was a bit larger than the regular inside cabins because of the set up. I would stay in that cabin again!

We are loving the layout of R515 on the Emerald! Absolutely no noise and movement; we're used to being aft of the aft elevators and this is much more stable. The extra few sq ft is nice; even nicer is that DH has HIS counter (by the TV), and I have mine (the long one). The only downside is that the bed is much closer to the door, and the cabin is by the mid elevators. We do at times hear inconsiderate passengers in the hallway late at night. But not a sound from above.

However, if you will soon be on the Emerald in R515, you may notice some residual cigarette smoke smell. I will not waste another minute of my cruise on this, but we were not able to unpack until noon on Day 2 of our cruise, and even now have a bit of smell, but it is fading. There is a cigarette burn on the sink (small), and we were told that the smokers were not in the cabin last cruise. Heaven help those who followed. While I was personally scrubbing every square inch of the cabin late Tuesday morning (including lamp shades, upholstered headboard, carpeted toe kick and air intake vents), I found two fabric softener sheets stuffed in the intake, a prior occupant's attempt to alleviate the issue. We will be leaving the cabin in much better condition than we found it, and are on the ship until 12/18, but I can't make any promises...

Those staterooms are larger...but not by a great deal. They are also not as light-proof as a standard inside. So, if you like a really dark room for sleeping, these cabins are not for you. When the door is open, anyone outside your door can look in at the bed. I'm glad we gave it a try, but would not book one again.

  • 3 years later...

I was in R403 on the Ruby Princess. The stateroom is spacious (by inside standards). Part of it is the sideways orientation; it provides a bigger sense of openness. Still, it is larger by any measure. There is more closet space (including what I'd call his / hers closets; his is smaller, hers is about twice the size).

I would take one of these again in a heartbeat. Part of it was the upper deck as well; I just walked up for the buffet or the pool / hot tub. Same with the movie.

Did you find this location a problem with the pool deck above? I am considering one of these for an Alaska cruise so I don't expect as much activity up there - compared to a Caribbean itinerary.

I had one of these cabins on Caribbean Princess and loved it. No noise except for one evening when they were holding the Ultimate Pool Party. You could hear the conga line tromping about... but since I was heading out anyway, it didn't matter :)

They are NOT even close to the size of a mini. I would choose the Obstructed OV. Mainly for location mid ship.
