Synthetic Posted June 15, 2011 #1 Share Posted June 15, 2011 Yes - I received word from John Heald that this rumor is, in fact, true and will be policy. Too bad - I was looking forward to my next level of Milestone but will now not cruise any of CCL's lines. I remember the debacle and laughing stock that Paradise was in the late 90's then when they painted over the NON-SMOKING signs in 2003. I am in the night club business and Carnival should have learned by the paltry liquor sales aboard Paradise that banning smoking=lower occupancy and far lower alcohol sales. Oh well. Not my problem anymore - shame on you Carnival... You had a good thing going and are now trying to be everything to everyone and that isn't why I cruised your line. [and yes, I did cancel my Seabourn cruise as well. Why cruise with a company that makes ignorant decisions?]

In fact Princess has banned smoking from balconies and inside staterooms. Too bad. As a smoker, I didn't see this as a big deal. Carnival was pretty liberal. Oh well, more power to you. dzcruisers Posted June 15, 2011 #7 Share Posted June 15, 2011 On which cruise lines can you still smoke in your cabin? On Carnival they will still allow balcony smoking whereas a lot don't allow that.

Oh well. How does one have to do with another? All this just because Carnival is restricting you're ability to interfere with non-smoker's vacations? jhale Posted June 15, 2011 #11 Share Posted June 15, 2011 The Paradise was initially (and for many years) a completely smoke-free ship. It was built with that purpose in mind. Here is what I wonder, the Paradise did not remain non-smoking, was this due to not being able to fill the ship because of the non-smoking policies? My mother went on this ship once, and saw people put off the ship that were caught smoking on the ship, no joke! This was in the boarding "contract" for that ship in it's first decade or so. legion3 Posted June 15, 2011 #12 Share Posted June 15, 2011 the 90's? - that was a long time ago and things change. Lots of the anti-smoking rules, regulations and laws are now part of the fabric of society and are quickly becoming the norm, not the exception. The Paradise might have been ahead of her time...time will tell.
okgirl Posted June 15, 2011 #13 Share Posted June 15, 2011 I'm just curious since I don't smoke (anymore) or cruise on any other cruise line. What are the smoking policies on RCCL? What are the smoking policies on NCL? I do think that the ban on in cabin smoking was a bit much. As a non-smoker who always sails in inside cabins I've never had a leftover odor that I noticed. I guess if I was still smoking it wouldn't seem like such a big deal to leave my inside cabin on deck 6 and go down to the casino bar to smoke or going up to the Lido doesn't seem like such a big deal to me either. Here in Dallas, there hasn't been smoking in restaurants for a long time and I don't go to bars that don't serve food, so I'm not sure what the rules are. Question for OP though. Are you going to continue to cruise and if so what cruise line will be your choice?

Isaboo Posted June 15, 2011 #17 Share Posted June 15, 2011 I've never cruised Carnival before, but now I will because I won't have to breath in the cigarette stench of whomever was in the cabin before me. AWCHIEF Posted June 15, 2011 #18 Share Posted June 15, 2011 OP: I am so happy to hear that you did this. Maybe if enough people sell their stock the price will go down and I can buy some more. Hopefully the prices will also go down and I can book a couple of more cruises with Carnival, a company that really listens to the majority of its paying passangers.:D

At least you make more thought-out decisions, unlike Carnival:rolleyes: I guess you showed them!! It's like... they offended your diety (smoking) with that kind of knee-jerk over-the-edge reaction. Say good bye to Half Moon Cay, sense it's your stated favorite port. cruisin1982 Posted June 15, 2011 #23 Share Posted June 15, 2011 I must have bought your 5600 shares.:D Being from a family that smoked I am a non smoker and the only area on the ship that really bothered me was the panio bar way to small and you could see the smoke come from inside when you opened the door. That was the only place I could not go into. The casinos wasn't even bad because of the area it took up. There will never be anyone that will agree on this.
